UNVEILING CEREMONY HELD - Eagle Scout Daniel Hepworth of Massapequa Troop 590 recently held an unveiling ceremony of two signs he erected for his Eagle Scout project. The signage is located at the Towers of Freedom 9/11 Military Monument in John Burns Park. Daniel’s goal was to increase awareness of this beautiful monument that is dedicated to those who gave their lives that day and to honor first responders, firefighters, police officers and military servicemen.

I told myself I would take my time with this one, write it well in advance of deadline, try to encapsulate everything in one epic, closing chapter.

And yet, here I sit – 11:30 p.m. on the eve of my second to last day of work, staring at a mostly blank template as countless thoughts swirl in my brain.

Individuals interested in registering for the 2018 Fall Youth Ice Hockey Program must bring a copy of their birth certificate, proof of Town of Oyster Bay residency (tax or utility bill) as well as payment. Check, money order, MasterCard or Visa will be accepted.

All registrants must bring these items, even if they have participated in the past. A parent or legal guardian must be present at registration.

The program is held on Sunday mornings, and Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. Registration fees are as follows: • 5U: $200 for one child being registered ($300 for non-residents) • 8U: $325 for one child being registered ($425 for non-residents) • 12U: $325 for one child being registered ($425 for non-residents) • 15U: $325 for one child being registered ($425 for non-residents) All participants must provide their own equipment, and should have some skating ability.

Equity First Foundation is a 501c3 nonprofit organization located here on Long Island. Rhonda Klch started this foundation with the mission to offer services, resources and programs to consumers and small businesses that are facing financial distress. Although the details of financial markets may not be necessary for everyone, a good understanding of everyday finances is needed to ensure your home, bank account and additional assets are protected as you go about your life.

This nonprofit is guided by a board of experts from the Long Island business community. They strive to educate the community so people can make financial decisions with knowledge and confidence.

The mantra of this foundation is “Learn today to choose wisely tomorrow!”

This organization holds hands-on workshops, where participants will be given course material, handouts and goals to accomplish. Some people they help through these workshops are those in women’s shelters, homeless shelters, veteran homes, at-risk communities, drug rehabilitation centers, senior centers and more.

As a way to benefit and honor certain individuals, this nonprofit holds many events throughout the year. Some of these events include their Dancing for a Cure event, which raises awareness and research for individuals who have or have had cancer; their Holiday Dream Mission, which assists families in financial distress during the holiday season; their Military Saves Week, which is geared toward assisting military members financially; and their Angel Awards, which honors women of Long Island who have created an impact in the areas of community, volunteer, philanthropy and business development!

School in the Massapequa School District.

She has been an elementary teacher in the district for fourteen years, and most recently taught second grade at McKenna.

Ms. Ferraro, a Farmingdale resident, attended Massapequa schools from kindergarten through 12th grade. She holds her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in literacy from Dowling College, and earned her school building leadership certificate from the New York Institute of

Technology.

She has a strong knowledge of the elementary curriculum, having taught first, second, third, fourth and sixth grades during her time in the district. In her new position, she will work closely with the principal, teachers and staff to create an engaging and challenging learning environment.

Car Show Long Island Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announces Car Show Long Island’s Fall Classic, a new premiere experience, kicking off on Sunday, September 23rd from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at TOBAY Beach. Registration is open and hundreds of automobiles, trucks and emergency service vehicles will be on display for spectators to enjoy. A live concert performed by The Mystic will take place during the day, followed by a trophy presentation.
