Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that they are hosting the 45th Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament comprised of 6-player co-ed teams. This event will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2023 and will be held rain or shine.

The tournament will begin at 9:00AM on the volleyball courts at Central Mall Field 4 at Jones Beach State Park. The first round of matches will be played as a round robin. All teams are guaranteed to play seven games. The top two teams from each round robin bracket will advance on to the quarterfinals which will decide the two final teams. Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams. The 3rd and 4th place teams will receive merchandise prizes.

Registration is FREE and is open until the roster is full. Players must be 14 years old or older to participate.

Commander Robert Duffy, Junior Vice Commander Victor Crespo, and Quartermaster Arthur Krumm. Together Mayor Pearl and Assemblyman Durso had the honor of administering the oath of office to the Post Trustees Arthur Baldwin, Pasquale

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience And Long Island Cares Join Forces To Combat Summertime Food Insecurity

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience at Samanea New York (located at 1500 Old Country Road, Westbury, NY) is partnering with Long Island Cares (www.LICares.org) to help fight food insecurity during the summer through August 6

Long Islanders who purchase a ticket and donate one bag of groceries (containing more than one item) will receive one complimentary ticket per ticket holder to the immersive event as a thankyou for their contribution.

“Long Island has warmly welcomed Beyond Van Gogh into their community since we opened in March, and we are proud to team up with Long Island Cares to give back,” said Justin Paquin, President, Paquin Exhibitions & Theatrical, Division of Paquin Entertainment Group. “Beautiful art can change

Town To Host Empire State Ride Long Island To End Cancer

Jeff Pravato to announce the Town’s partnership with Empire State Ride Long Island to host Long Island’s largest charitable bike ride to benefit cancer research, scheduled for Saturday, July 22nd. Town officials were joined by Empire State Ride Founder Terry Bourgeois, Director of Thoracic Oncology and Clinical Research at the Cancer Institute at Good Samaritan Hospital Dr. Ashish Sangal, and Michael Seecharan, an inspiring lung cancer survivor who has participated in a clinical trial funded by events like the Empire State Ride.

“We are thrilled to once again partner with Catholic Health on Long Island and

Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, to raise this important funding to support cancer research and clinical trials,” said Supervisor Saladino. “All course routes begin in downtown Oyster Bay and feature a ride through beautiful beaches, woodlands, and historic destinations – including Teddy Roosevelt’s home at Sagamore Hill – in and around the Town of Oyster Bay’s exquisite north shore. Registration is now open for this fundraising event with a $25 fee for each participant. Riders will commit to a fundraising minimum which is $200 for adults and $75 for riders under 18 for all routes. Town Partners With U.S. Marine Corps To Install Wheelchair Lift

Cellist Earns Scholarship For Summer Music Camp

A Massapequa ninth grader has been selected to attend this summer’s Rock Orchestra Camp, sponsored by the Mark Wood Music Foundation. Ava Jones, a student at the Massapequa High School Ames Campus, participated in the camp from July 9-15 at MidAmerica Nazarene University in Kansas.

The scholarship is valued at $1,600 and covers her full tuition for the camp. Massapequa was offered a scholarship for one student in recognition of the district’s excellent music program, specifically its exemplary leadership and high level of student engagement. During Mark Wood’s two-day residency during Music In Our Schools Month, he worked with Massapequa’s 520 string musicians, teaching them songs that were performed at a culminating concert on March 28.

Ava is a cellist in the ninth grade orchestra. She has been playing the cello for six years and her

music teachers in Massapequa have included Debbie Burkart at East Lake Elementary School, Pam Kronowitz and Jeremy Einhart at Berner Middle School and Inna Tymochko-Dekajlo at Ames.

“I’m really excited to attend the Rock Orchestra Camp,” she said. “It sounds like a good opportunity to further explore the cello.”

Ava said the music workshop with Mr. Wood in March helped in her development as a musician. It was a new experience, she explained, as she and her fellow musicians had to memorize the songs they would be performing in a short period of time.
