On Friday, May 31st, in recognition of May being Military Appreciation Month, the Harbour Green Shore Club in Massapequa honored one of their veteran members, Ken Hernandez, as well as all military personnel and first responders. The event featured the playing of the National Anthem followed by a color guard salute performed by Massapequa American Legion Post 1066 and Bagpipers from the Amityville American Legion Pipe Band.

Kenneth, who served tours of duty in both Kuwait and Iraq and then worked as a Port Authority Police Officer was awarded a Citation from Massapequa American Legion Post 1066 Commander John J. Nolan III for his service to our country.

Oyster Bay Town Councilman Tom Hand invites residents to submit photos taken in the Town of Oyster Bay to be considered for future use in Town publications.

“We accept photos year-round submitted by our residents which depict people, places, community events and scenery throughout our Town,” said Councilman Hand. “We accept photos for the calendar, as well as other Town publications, including our website, social media pages and

brochures.”

Councilman Hand noted that photos should be taken within the confines of the Town of Oyster Bay. Digital submissions are preferred, but high-quality photos may also be submitted. Emailed photos should be sent to photos@oysterbayny.gov. Printed photos can be submitted to the Town’s Public Information Office, 54

Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay NY 11771. Residents should make sure their name, address, phone number and brief description of the photo are included with their submission. The photographer is responsible for the correct spelling of the names and subjects in the photos, as well as notifying subjects they may appear in a Town publication.

Oyster Bay Town Councilman Lou Imbroto reminds residents that Town sanitation and S.O.R.T. Recycling collection schedules will be modified for the observance of Independence Day on Thursday, July 4th.

“There will be no sanitation or recycling

collection on Thursday, July 4th for residents who normally receive Town service,” Councilman Imbroto said. “Residents who generally receive Town pickup on Thursdays will have their collections done the next day, Friday, July 5th. Those who generally receive Town pickup on

Fridays will be picked up Saturday, July 6th.”

Though most breast cancer survivors don’t get cancer again, the American Cancer Society notes that they are at higher risk for getting some types of cancer. According to the ACS, the most common second cancer in breast cancer survivors is another breast cancer. That only underscores the importance of continuing to get screened even after successful treatment. In addition to a second breast cancer, breast cancer survivors have a greater risk of developing salivary gland cancer, cancer of the esophagus, stomach cancer, colon cancer, uterine cancer, and ovarian cancer. The risk for thyroid cancer, sarcoma, melanoma of the skin, and acute myeloid leukemia also is greater after successful treatment for cancer.
