The Charity of the Month for May is LI Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame

The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. They have proudly inducted over 120 music artists and related professionals who are recognized at their beautiful new Stony Brook location.
Music Education plays a significant role in the lives of many. In addition to granting thousands of dollars in music scholarships to individuals each year, LIMEOF goes above and beyond to keep the love of music alive and well for students. One of the ways they do so is through aligning with the TeachRock program.
Launched by Stevie Van Zandt and the Founders Board of Bono, Jackson Browne, Martin Scorsese and Bruce Springsteen, this program provides free, standards-aligned resources that use music to help K-12 students succeed in science, math, social studies, language arts and more. Nearly 60,000 educators representing all 50 states are registered at Teachrock.org. The program aspires to:
•Keep the arts in the DNA of school systems
•Empower teachers with a methodology to engage young students
•Create inclusive spaces through the arts by providing teachers well researched, abundanceframed classroom resources featuring positive representations of all Americans
•Increase graduation rates

“Residents looking to apply for a new passport are invited to visit Town Hall during Passport Weekend to receive assistance,” said Town Clerk LaMarca. “We can help you with organizing your documents, obtaining a photo and submitting the documents for approval.”

The high school students enrolled in the courses have successfully completed the Parenting and Child Development Course and are now ready for a handson approach to learning. The students will plan, prepare and implement interdisciplinary activities within a thematic unit for the preschool students.
The preschool will begin around Nov. 28 and continue to approximately June 4, 2024. It will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays only, with a morning session and an afternoon session. Enrolled children must attend both days. The morning session will run from approximately 9:10 to 11:10 a.m., and the afternoon session will be held from approximately 12:15 to 1:30 p.m.

An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but a recent study found drinking tea might keep the cardiologist at bay. The USDA reported that men and women who drank black tea for three weeks reduced their total and bad cholesterol (LDL) levels by an average of 7.5 percent. Researchers concluded that drinking tea may reduce the risk of coronary
heart disease. Antioxidants called flavonoids, found in both green and black teas, are thought to be potent weapons in the fight against heart disease.
That news may be especially important for women, given that heart disease kills more women than all forms of cancer combined including breast cancer.

Massapequa Takes Action Coalition (MTAC) is partnering with YES Community Counseling Center (YESCCC) and The Massapequa Fire Departments to provide Opioid Abuse and Overdose Prevention Education for members of the Massapequa and North Massapequa Fire Departments, their families, and concerned community members. Expanding the awareness and availability of naloxone
is a key part of YESCCC and MTAC’s public health response to the opioid overdose crisis. YESCCC continues to deliver FREE opioid prevention education and naloxone training with kits across the Massapequas. Naloxone is an opioid antagonist that is used to temporarily reverse the effects of an opioid overdose, namely slowed or stopped breathing. Naloxone is a safe antidote to a suspected overdose
