PSEG Long Island Employees Make
PSEG Long Island employees recently donated $1,000 to Merrick-based Balloon Mission, Inc. a notfor-profit organization that collects discarded balloons in an effort to protect wildlife and the environment.
Balloon safety is important to PSEG Long Island because metallic balloons can be hazardous to overhead electric lines – potentially causing fires and power outages, and also because of the negative effects released balloons can have on the ecosystem. The donation was made through three of the company’s employee business resource groups (EBRG): GREEN, which is comprised of employeeadvocates of clean energy alternatives, LI Environmental Guardians, which supports local efforts to help preserve the earth, and the Able EBRG, which champions community
organizations that help people with disabilities.
The Association for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS), which serves families of children and adults with disabilities, has been involved with Balloon Mission’s work. Adults receiving services from ACDS help Balloon Mission by collecting deflated balloons from various balloon drop box locations. The group then practices life skills by sorting and counting the balloons before they are safely and properly discarded.
Balloon Mission will use the PSEG Long Island donation to educate the public through community outreach and balloon collection programs, and by erecting informational signage at area parks and beaches about the dangers of balloon releases.
"We're so grateful for our partnership with PSEG
Long Island,” said Cynthia Seibold, founder and executive director of Balloon Mission, Inc. “This donation will help fund our recycling and education programs that raise awareness about the unintended harm balloons have when they're accidentally or purposely let go in the sky. We're pioneering a balloon collection program so people can responsibly enjoy balloons. Once the fun is done, they pop-n-drop balloons in our bins knowing they're keeping animals and the environment safe, while reducing the risk of fires and power outages."
“We are supporting this wonderful organization that is raising awareness about the potential dangers balloons can have on our environment,” said Anna Keselman, co-president of the PSEG Long Island GREEN EBRG. “We are inspired by Cynthia’s

Today, both Russ’ have continued the work that Lucille started and have made “Bonanno” one of the most reputable names in the area.
Now as part of the ERA Real Estate network, Russ, Russ Jr. and their full-
service company’s affiliated agents will be able to utilize the brand’s robust business-building tools and leverage the most up-to-date marketing programs to connect buyers and sellers. With these tools at their disposal, the Bonannos want to evolve from a reactive, local provider in Massapequa, to a proactive name-brand that can be recognized throughout Long Island and into New York City.

enthusiasm and her organization’s mission to protect turtles, sea life and our lands.”
PSEG Long Island reminds the public that balloons released into the air can become entangled in
overhead electric equipment and cause a host of problems.
Metallic balloons conduct electricity and resting on an electric line or other electrical equipment could lead to power outages, fire and, possibly, injuries.
Balloons caught on electrical equipment should be reported to PSEG Long Island at 800-490-0075 so a specially trained crew can safely address the issue.

Passover Is A Celebration Of Freedom
Passover is a Jewish celebration that begins at sundown on Monday, April 22nd and ends the evening of Tuesday, April 30th.
According to the religious resource My Jewish Learning, Passover is a festival of freedom that marks the Israelites’ exodus from Egypt and their freedom from slavery. The term “passover,” which is also known as “pesach,” coordinates to a key moment in religious history.
According to texts, the Egyptian Pharaoh refused to liberate the children of Israel, despite requests from Moses and his brother, Aaron. The pharaoh was warned that his people and he would be punished if the pharaoh did not comply. Persistent and obstinate in his refusal, Pharaoh was subjected to 10 plagues, each of which was more devastating than the previous one. These plagues included
blood, frogs, bugs, flies, pestilence, boils, hail, locusts, darkness, and finally the demise of all firstborn males. To be spared the penultimate devastation, Israelites were instructed to sacrifice a lamb for a meal and to mark their doors with its blood. The Lord would see the blood and pass over that household, sparing the occupants’ sons.
Because Passover is so symbolic, Passover seders, which take place either on the first Friday or both the first and second Friday of Passover, feature many traditions. It is customary to read the Haggadah at the seder table, but celebrants who cannot come together may share these important stories, blessings and songs via an online video chat. In addition, if Passover celebrants cannot make it to the store or find all of the ingredients for their
seder plates, substitutions may need to be made. Traditionally, an egg, bitter herbs, a shank bone, parsley, haroset (chopped
mixed nuts, fruits and cinnamon), and lettuce are included. Celebrants can even experiment with making unleavened bread at home if necessary. If horseradish for a bitter herb is unavailable, any item that can cause tears, such as ginger or raw lemon, may be substituted. Passover is an important part of Jewish history and a holiday that is celebrated each year with vigor.

Pravato Reminds Residents
Second Half School Taxes Due
Town of Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato reminds residents that the Second Half of the 2023-2024 School Tax Levy was due on April 1st, but can be paid without penalty through May 10th.
“New York State Law allows my office to provide taxpayers with a 40-day penalty free period from the date the tax is due during which payment may be made without penalty,” Receiver Pravato explained. “After the 40 days, State Law requires a one percent penalty be added for each month the tax remains unpaid.
So, make your payment before May 10th and don’t delay, and you will ensure you aren’t paying more out of pocket than you need to.”
The Tax Office is open in both
Town Hall North, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, and Town Hall South, 977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa, from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm to assist residents and accept payments with a check, cash or credit card*. On May 9th and 10th both offices will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.
When paying in person, residents are reminded to bring the entire tax bill. There are also outdoor walkup windows, and drop boxes have been installed at both locations for residents to make payments when the Tax Office is closed.
Residents who prefer to mail in their payments, should send them to the Office of the Receiver of Taxes, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, N.Y. 11771-1539.
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Town Clerk Richard LaMarca call on
residents to ‘Spring into Action’ to support veterans by donating to a collection drive in support of the Northport VA. Residents are invited to donate toiletries and new clothing through May 15th.
“From hosting veteran appreciation events to recognizing their service with Hometown Heroes Banners in our parks, the Town of Oyster Bay is committed to honoring veterans for their service to our nation,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Please join this mission to help bring the comforts of home to
veterans living at the Northport VA Hospital by making a donation to our collection drive.”
Most needed items include toiletries (toothbrushes/ toothpaste, denture adhesive, hairbrushes/ combs, unscented deodorant, body wash, unscented lotion, nail clippers/ files, and shampoo/ conditioner), men’s/ women’s clothing (assorted sizes of underwear/ briefs, sweatshirts, sweatpants with no drawstring, longsleeve t-shirts, slippers and flip flops sized L, XL).
“When I learned that the Northport VA has a ‘Wish List’ of items their veterans desperately need, I

knew residents would generously spring into action to help ensure these needs are met,” said Clerk LaMarca. “I thank the residents of our wonderful Town in advance for their generosity and support of our veterans.”
The Town’s Collection Drive will run for 30 days beginning April 15th. Collection Bins will be available on weekdays from 9:00am to 4:45pm at Town Hall North (54 Audrey Ave, Oyster Bay) and Town Hall South (977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa).
For more information, please call (516) 624-6380 or email ealter@ oysterbay-ny.gov.
Tax payments may also be made online through a link on our Town website, www. oysterbaytown.com.
