New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso, Village of Massapequa Park Mayor Daniel Pearl and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman are hosting a free Narcan Training on Friday, March 15, 2024 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Village Hall in Massapequa Park. A trained specialist from the Nassau County Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency & Developmental Disabilities Services will discuss signs of an opiate overdose, overdose risk factors, recognizing and responding to an overdose, administration of Naloxone (Narcan), and new treatment approaches. He began coaching the Little League World Series team along with fellow coaches Dom Fontana and the team manager Rich Eaton. “Dom and Rich are the best of the best” Joe said.

One of his greatest interests since 2008, is serving as a coach for the Massapequa International Little League team where he also sits on the board of directors. He became interested in 2008 when he played father-daughter tee-ball with his then 3-year-old daughter Jessica.

Joe, like the other coaches, has a different style of helping the players in the time of need. When it comes to the games and practices, he wants the kids to win and feel proud of themselves. However, he always makes sure the kids are not stressed out about whether they win or lose.

“Remain calm. They’re kids. They’re going to make mistakes. Everybody wants to win but you have to stay calm,” he said. He believes in core values such as respect for both the players and the coaches. While coaches get a lot of recognition for their strategies within games and practices, the parents get to see a lot on the sidelines that many people don’t always see. “Joe brought a little more light to heavy practices... Coach Joe was the guy who had fun with them and gave them a different perspective,” said Josie Rios, the parent of Ava Rios, who played on Joe’s 2023 World Series Team. “He coached our kids without a kid on the team and he still coaches for the local little league. I think he just dedicates a lot of time to the love of the game. It just shows what kind of person

With hard work and lots of practices, the Massapequa Softball Little League team had the chance to participate in the World Series Championship game in Greenville North Carolina that took place on August 13, 2023.

“Our team jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back and took home the title of Little League World Series Champions, the team finished undefeated with 19 Wins and 0 Losses” Joe said “This was a major win for not only Massapequa but New York State as well. The game would be known as the first world series championship game to be won by any Little League softball team in New York State.

Coach Joe has been a true helper to these kids as they have been to him. While they get good training and a respectful coach, he gets to give back to the community which he loves so much. “He’s not just a coach to these girls, he’s their friend,” Rios said. Now Joe says its back to reality and back to work changing people’s lifestyles in the form of selling homes throughout Long Island. are seniors, so it’s our last show and our last chance to perform with each other. It’s very light-hearted. While there’s definitely dramatic aspects, it’s like we’re having a party on stage.”

Luke said that the audience will really enjoy the dance numbers, as the choreography matches the

music very well. Olivia added that the passion of the actors will be evident.

The show is directed by Katie Pearsall with support from choreographer Danielle Coutieri, vocal director Craig Coyle and production assistant Nichole Greene.

YES Community Counseling Center is proud to announce the launch of an innovative mobile application, BRIDGES YES, developed by their BRIDGES Program.

BRIDGES (Building Resources for Individuals to Develop, Guide, Encourage, and Support) is a FREE outpatient system of care for young adults 16-25 who are living with substance misuse and mental health issues, or are in recovery. YES is one of only 17 recipients in the nation awarded funding by SAMHSA to launch this holistic treatment program.

BRIDGES YES is a comprehensive app designed to cater to the unique needs of young adults who are dealing with substance misuse or are on the journey to recovery. It contains a library of podcasts, meditations, and resources carefully created by experts in their field. With a user-

friendly interface and a focus on providing personalized support and empowering resources, the app serves as a powerful lifeline for young adults navigating the complexities of substance misuse and mental health.

More than just a resource hub, it is a supportive companion on young adults’ path to recovery. The app is particularly beneficial for those in the initial stages of recovery, who may not be fully ready for support but seek a sense of connection in a stigma free environment. The app also plays a crucial role in building trust with the BRIDGES program; empowering young adults by acknowledging their challenges and providing diverse mediums for support. The app acts as a gateway, opening doors to possibilities for young adults throughout Nassau and Suffolk County. One notable feature of the BRIDGES YES
