SALADINO SWEARS IN MASSAPEQUA FIRE DISTRICT COMMISSIONER - Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino administered the Oath of Office to Massapequa Fire District Commissioner Gary Persichetti, who was re-elected to his third term on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. Commissioner Persichetti is a 48-year member of the depart­ment, an Ex-Chief of the Massapequa Fire Department, and a for­mer New York City firefighter. He was joined for the swearing in process by his wife, Patti, Commissioner Michael Gange (far left), Commissioner Joseph Giordano (second from right), and Commissioner Justin McCaffrey (far right). Supervisor Saladino proudly led the installation, and thanked members of the volunteer fire service for their selfless dedication to the community.

Avoid Penalties By Paying General Taxes Prior To February 12th Pravato explained. “After the 40 days, State Law requires a one percent penalty be added for each month the tax remains unpaid, retroactive to January 1st. Don’t delay, make your payment before February 12th and ensure you aren’t paying more out of pocket than you need to.”

The Tax Office is open in both Town Hall North, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, and Town Hall South, 977 Hicksville Road,

Massapequa, from 9:00 am to 4:45 pm to assist residents and accept payments with a check, cash or credit card*.

There are also outdoor walkup windows.

On February 9th and 12th both offices will be open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. When paying in person, residents are reminded to bring the entire tax bill. Drop Boxes have been installed at both Town Hall North and Town Hall South for residents to

make payments when the Tax Office is closed.

Residents who prefer to mail in their payments should send them to the Office of the Receiver of Taxes, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, N.Y. 117711539. Please be certain to sign your check, and make it payable to Jeffrey P. Pravato, Receiver of Taxes. Indicate your property’s S.D. Code, Section, Block, Lot and phone number on the check.

Middle School Artists Make A Face

Creative expression is the hallmark of the boo-face project, an annual artistic endeavor for seventh graders at Berner Middle School in the Massapequa School District. Students bring together all of the elements and principles of art in one piece, such as color, line, shape, space and value.

The abstract pattern drawing and painting takes

several weeks to complete.

Each student first creates four thumbnail sketches, then picks one to turn into a larger piece of art.

The themes of this year’s faces were wide-ranging, from animals to monsters to holiday characters.

Many students bring their own personal hobbies and interests into the art.

The boo-face projects are

completed in all Foundations of Art classes, taught by Bethany Bracconier, Alison Clemente, Jason Coppola, Heather Cullinan and Antoinette Kearney. It is a long-standing tradition for Berner’s seventh grade artists, allowing them to express their individuality while also applying their knowledge of multiple artistic techniques.

Town Of Oyster Bay Hosts 2024 Inauguration Ceremony

Master of Ceremonies for the event and Farmingdale Schools Superintendent Paul Defendini welcomed all in attendance. Remarks were also given by New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, Nassau County Republican Chairman Joseph G. Cairo, Legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip and former Congressman Peter King.

by Tweed Roosevelt, the great grandson of President Theodore Roosevelt.

“Today we embark on a new chapter in the history of our beloved Town.

This victory is not just a personal achievement but a testament to the recognition of what we have accomplished in the Town of Oyster Bay,” Supervisor Saladino said.

“We did not just win an election, we have won the opportunity to shape the future of our Town, to build on our successes, and to overcome the challenges that lie ahead. As we look to the future, my focus

remains steadfast on the values that make our Town the wonderful community it is today – values of community, safety and a high quality of life for all.”

Supervisor Saladino and the Town Board have returned fiscal stability and trust to the Town of Oyster Bay, turning a $44 million deficit into a $88 million surplus, all while cutting taxes. The Supervisor noted that debt is down 25 percent even while the Town has paved 35 percent of roadways, with more to come. The Town has also received 8 credit rating

upgrades, and held the line on Town property taxes for six consecutive years after initially reducing them in 2018, resulting in over $9 million being back in the pockets of homeowners rather than in the coffers of government.

“Our Town is made up of wonderful communities – a home for families, a haven for small businesses, and a place where memories are made. It is that reason that this team works day and night to protect our quality of life,” continued Supervisor Saladino. “From improving sports fields to

upgrading parks, repaving roads and working with police to keep you safe, we’re committed to you and your family.

“I am also acutely aware of the financial burden that taxes can place on our residents and businesses.

That is why we actively seek economic development projects that expand the tax base while benefitting our Town as a whole. We are a financially stable Town, and are better equipped than ever before to meet the needs of residents and address the challenges that may arise.”

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino joined with the Rallye Motor Company, Donate Life New York State, and the State Automobile Dealers Association to help raise awareness about the life-changing impact of organ, eye and tissue donation. The Supervisor recognized Rallye BMW’s General Manager Matt Carlson, who is receiving a kidney donation from his daughter Stephanie, for their efforts in spreading the word about how simple it is to sign up to be an organ donor.

“Thousands of people

die each year due to a lack of available organs for transplants. Everyone can help change this statistic by pledging organ donation through their New York State driver’s license or through other initiatives such as the New York Organ Donor Network,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Unfortunately, New York is at the bottom of the list as far as the number of people willing to be donors, and we have the opportunity to change that statistic. Working together, we can save the lives of family members, friends and neighbors who

are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and a second chance at life.”

In New York State alone, nearly 8,500 people are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants, while 2,500 New Yorkers receive transplants each year.

Sadly, about 500 New Yorkers die waiting for a life-saving transplant.

One organ donor can save eight lives and heal 75 more through eye and tissue donation. Anyone age 16 and older can join the registry, regardless of medical history. For more information, visit DonateLife.ny.gov.

Banners bearing the nominated individual’s name, rank, photograph and area of service will be unveiled throughout selected park facilities across the Town of Oyster Bay in the months leading

up to Veterans Day in November. Any interested individual or organization who would wish to sponsor a banner can remit $75 to sponsor the production of a banner. No profit is made from this program. Once the banners are displayed, the Town will maintain the banners, and will remain on display until Veterans Day, where they will then be taken down to avoid any inclement winter weather and returned to the service family or their loved ones.

Those who sponsored a banner last year are reminded to submit a new application in order to be included in the 2024 season. Applications must be received by March 15, $
