But many drivers do not give tires a passing thought until there is a problem, such as a flat or excessive wear. Also, some drivers think that all tires are the same, failing to realize that the kind of tires vehicles need depends on various factors.

No sooner has the last of the Halloween candy been given out to the neighborhood trick-ortreaters, than we are faced with the prospect of preparing for the next festive occasion on the calendar… Christmas, apparently. Year after year, the interval of time between the two seems to evaporate into a void of shopping, decorating, cooking and caroling, forgetting the small fact that there exists another holiday in between.

I understand that, for some, Thanksgiving doesn’t have the same “fun” appeal to children and adults alike. There are no costumes, no Santa Claus, no presents to speak of… and yet, that is precisely what makes the day so uniquely special.

The entire point, in fact, is to be grateful for that which we have – family, friends, health, happiness – and not be caught up in the materialism that tends to overtake every other occasion.

It’s not about the meal, or the football, or the Black Friday shopping deals that continue to creep into Thursday; it’s about the company you spend the day celebrating with. This is the case no matter the holiday, of course; but on Thanksgiving, we tend to step back and appreciate it just a bit more.

Your vehicle’s engine is like your body. It must have unrestricted air and fuel flow to function properly. Every time you turn off the key, your engine heats up like an oven. The marathon route took runners along Suffolk County’s south shore, starting and ending on Montauk Highway in downtown Patchogue, and took runners through Blue Point, Bayport, downtown Sayville, Oakdale – including the former St. John’s University campus (now Amity Education Group) and past the historic Bourne Mansion, New York State’s Heckscher State Park and Bayard Cutting Arboretum.

“We want to continue to make this event a destination marathon while highlighting our downtowns and our wonderful assets along the south shore,” added County Executive Bellone. “In addition to reversing the course, we worked with our local chambers of commerce and local business leaders to organize various events in order to enhance the experience for our spectators and visitors.”

The 2016 Suffolk County Marathon was the third marathon County Executive Bellone ran, previously running in the 2014 New York City Marathon and 2015 Suffolk County Marathon.

The County Executive’s participation was inspired by his commitment to live a healthier lifestyle, which includes a 69 pound weight loss since 2013.

The FreedomFest: Taste of Long Island Festival was also held in down Patchogue park in conjunction with the marathon, half marathon and 5k race to highlight the region’s local businesses, such as local craft breweries, award winning wines, and local eateries and produce. Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced that more than 3,000 runners from 26 states, the District of Columbia and six countries participated in the Catholic Health Services’ 2nd Annual Suffolk County Marathon & Half Marathon to Support Our Veterans. All net proceeds generated from the event will go directly to veteran service organizations in Suffolk County.

The male and female winner of the full marathon were: Mark Maggi, Cohasset, MA – 2:48:08.43; Pam O’Sullivan, Nashua, NH – 2:58:45.93 The male and female winner of the half marathon were: Ben Jacobs, Minnetonka, MN – 1:12:37.32; Leonora Petrina, Bayport, NY – 1:17:23.28 The male and female winner of the 5k: Peter Argerakis, Blue Point, NY – 17:40.10; Mckenna Mazeski, Aurora, CO – 19:23.45 The winner of the wheelchair division: Mark Braun, Mounds View, MN – 1:02:30.00 The male and female winner of the Half Marathon National and International Championship for the Intellectually Disabled were: Alex Eletto, Stony Brook, NY –1:18:48.22; Belle Lipponer, Stony Brook, NY -- Time: 2:33:53.00 (Stony Brook, NY) Along with raising funds for the veterans, the Suffolk County Marathon was a qualifier for the 2018 Boston Marathon.

Nicholas raised funds for the purchasing of five benches and four flower boxes and he led a team of volunteers as they built and then installed these items on the plaza area leading into the auditorium.

On Saturday, October 29th, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey attended the Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony for Troop 179’s Nicholas A Marcis. The ceremony took place at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Islip and was attended by the new Eagle Scouts’ parents, friends, elected officials or their representatives and Troop 179’s leadership.

On becoming an Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank in Scouting, Nicholas said that his project as well as his entire Scouting career was a journey he took not by himself, but with the support of his friends, family and Troop.

Legislator McCaffrey also acknowledged the reliance an Eagle Scout must place on his support network to reach this outstanding

Amazing Academics

The North Babylon Academic Team, led by captain Haggai Anglade, Matthew Pecoraro, Noah Rothstein, and Richard Joyce, has achieved an impressive winning streak and is now nationally ranked.

In September, the team placed third at the Smithtown West Invitational Tournament.

On October 15th, it finished second at the Yale University Fall

Academic Tournament, and on October 29th, the team topped both of those achievements by placing first at the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights Invitational Tournament.

This is the second year in a row North Babylon took first place at Rutgers.

Anglade also distinguished himself once again by having the third highest points scored by an individual player at the Rutgers tournament.

This team has qualified for the HSNCT Nationals and PACE Nationals three times, and its next tournament will be a History Bowl at Seton Hall in New Jersey, where it will aim to qualify for the History Bowl Nationals.

The district extends its congratulations to the team and adviser Erin Casserly, and wishes it continued success.
