I Love You Day takes place in the middle of winter when it is often dark and drab,” said Woods Road Principal Celeste Archer. “It is a time to remind us to reach out to loved ones that we may have lost touch with or perform random acts of kindness in school and at home. It is a wonderful time to shine a light where some people may experience darkness. John Heegan Street Dedication
On Saturday, September 23rd, the Town of Babylon dedicated Hitherdell Ln in North Babylon to longtime resident John Heegan. Supervisor Schaffer said, “John was a staple in this community, someone we can always rely on.”
John Heegan was a 40year & life member of the North Babylon Fire Company and also an NYC Fireman with the FDNY. He was an active member of the NB Lions Club and a coach with the North
Babylon Lacrosse program when his kids were going through the program.
Councilman McSweeney said that the town board does these dedications so we remember and forever memorialize the people who dedicate their lives to making this a better world than how they found it.
Councilman McSweeney, also an active member of the FDNY said John was a good friend and a person I looked up to for many years. He was a cross
between an older brother and a father. He added, “Trust me, John would let me know when he wasn’t happy with what was going on in town government. It was like being scolded by my father.” McSweeney added that with the sign “John Heegan Way” it is now our responsibility as a community to tell our younger generation about John and his love for his community. John will be missed, but his legacy will live forever.”

Northwell Health IRONMAN 70.3 New York - Jones Beach Triathlon
Long Island’s south shore played host to the inaugural edition of Northwell Health IRONMAN® 70.3® New York – Jones Beach
triathlon on Saturday, Sept. 23. Participating athletes were treated to an IRONMAN 70.3 journey highlighted by the world-famous Jones
Beach State Park, home of 6.5 miles of beautiful white-sand beach on the Atlantic Ocean. In the age group men’s race, Ross Baldwin (Brooklyn, N.Y.),
in the 35-39 age group, was the first to cross the line with a time of 3:40:47. Evelyne Papillon (Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada), finished first
in the 40-44 age group, crossing the finish line with a time of 4:32:44.
More than 2,300 athletes from 46 U.S. States and 43 countries, regions and territories travelled to Long Island to compete in the inaugural race that began with a shortened 750-meter swim in Zach’s Bay just outside the famous Jones Beach Amphitheater before embarking upon the 56-mile closed bike course on the flat and fast Wantagh Parkway. The 13.1-mile run course took athletes onto the boardwalk alongside the Atlantic Ocean with an unforgettable finish line on the beach.
Due to the weather conditions on race morning, IRONMAN and local officials made the decision in the interest of athlete safety and the strict benchmarks in place, the swim portion of IRONMAN 70.3 New York
triathlon shortened to a 750-meter (0.46 mile) swim.
The Northwell Health IRONMAN 70.3 New York – Jones Beach will return to Long Island’s South Shore on Sept. 28, 2024. General registration for the 2024 edition will open on Oct. 4, 2023.

Sometimes life can become overwhelming. There are so many people who need help, but where do we even being?
When I think about ways to show my gratitude and of helping others, I think about the quote from Mother Teresa. I might not be able to feed every adult and child who are hungry today, but with your help, we can help feed some of them.
We can create a ripple effect. Someone in the next town will see what we doing, and they will start their own food or clothing drive... and then someone in the next town, and the town after that. Pretty soon, millions of people who needed support during a tough time in their lives will nd it. Hopefully, they can pay it forward when they have the means to do so.
Gratitude causes ripples, and ripples cause change. Let’s create some ripples this month for people who can use our help. Here are the details:
What: Thanksgiving Food Drive for St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
Where: Our Lady of Perpetual Help Lindenhurst.
When: The month of October. All donations must be in by Saturday, November 4th.
More: We will collect nonperishable items for Thanksgiving dinners at JoAnn Cilla Real Estate, 203 E Montauk Hwy, Lindenhurst NY 11757 on the following days:
