Dockside Family Festival
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the annual Dockside Family Festival will take place on Saturday, September 9th at Captree State Park in Babylon from 11:00AM to 5:00PM, rain or shine.
This festival offers fun for the entire family! Adults can enjoy live music as well as a variety of merchandise and food vendors. Activities for children include interactive pirate shows, pony rides, magic shows, boat rides (children must be accompanied by an adult) and much more! All activities are free; however, there is an $8.00 vehicle use fee in effect from 8:00AM to 4:00PM.

Local Summer Senior Advocate Schedule
Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Summer 2023 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.
“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”

Babylon Youths Take 3rd Place In Annual Battle Of The Books
Babylon Public Library youths take 3rd place in Suffolk County’s annual Battle of the Books competition!
Every summer, Suffolk County libraries gather with teams of young adult players (entering grades 6-9) to test their trivia mettle on six selected books. Each library team reads the same six books
during the summer with a culmination trivia challenge in August. On August 12, thirty Suffolk County libraries met at the Hyatt Regency in Hauppauge to participate in the Battle of the Books.
Babylon Public Library’s team, The Capri Suns, came in third place with the following members: Elliott Brunjes, Dominic
Davila, Juliet Gimberlein, Lillian Murphy, Kelsea O’Hara, Leah Skarulis, and Ciara Weisbecker. The team was coached by YA Librarian Catherine Frank.

American Heart Association’s Long Island Heart Walk Returns September 10
This year the Long Island Heart Walk will take place on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Jones Beach, Field 5. The Long Island Heart Walk supports a movement to get America walking to live longer, heart-healthy lives. Registration begins at 8:30am and the walk is scheduled to start at 9:30am.
The American Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premiere walking and
fund-raising event that takes place in over 300 cities every year. The event focuses on preventing heart disease and stroke by raising money to support heart research and heart healthy lifestyle programming. This year’s Heart Walk is sponsored by Life is Why sponsor Mount Sinai South Nassau.

Town of Babylon’s 1st Harbor Master Recognized
The Town of Babylon’s 1st Harbor Master, Fred “Fritz” Fricano was recognized by the Babylon Town Board as Supervisor Schaffer, Councilmen Terence McSweeney, and DuWayne Gregory presented him with a proclamation at Cedar Beach Marina. Mr. Fricano was the Harbor Master from 1975 until
he retired in 1999. Brought to Cedar by two of his children
Melissa and Dan, under the guise of a day at the marina, he was surprised to see Tim Taylor who succeeded him as harbor master (but retired in December), and the current harbor master Artie Smith. They were joined by the Town’s Bay Constables and Public
Safety. For his service to our community and service in the US Army during the Korean War, Mr. Fricano was also presented with red, white, and blue roses. Supervisor Schaffer announced that the Town would be retiring his badge, and a plaque would be placed at the Cedar Beach Marina to honor him.

Boy Scout Troop 399 Attend
West Point Invitational Camporee
Boy Scout Troop 399 North Babylon learned survival techniques, important skills, and fitness activities alongside West Point Cadets and other Boy Scouts at the West Point Invitational Camporee. Troop 399 Scouts and adult leaders started the weekend with a Lightfighter Hike, carrying everything they would need for approximately 3 miles. They experienced a taste of military life; eating K-rations, making their own ziplines, rafting,
hiking, and participating in other exciting learning opportunities that developed knowledge, grit, and character. At the end of the weekend, they celebrated with their fellow campers with music and a bonfire.
Boy Scout Troop 399 is a Boy Scout Troop based in North Babylon, NY and a member of the Sagtikos District of the Boy Scouts of America’s Suffolk County Council. Troop 399 is sponsored by the
North Babylon Lions Club. Originally chartered in 1975, Troop 399 has offered scouting opportunities and taught boys to become leaders and serve their community for over 40 years. Meetings are held most Thursday evenings at 7:30 p.m. during the school year.
