More Than 100 New Members Welcomed Into West Babylon NJHS

Joined by family, friends and administrators, West Babylon Junior High School welcomed its newest members into the National Junior Honor Society in a ceremony held in the school’s auditorium on May 24.

National Junior Honor Society adviser Ms. Limperatos welcomed guests to the ceremony and recognized the importance of their hard work and dedication to their school

and community. West Babylon Junior High School Principal Dr. Carlos Falcon echoed those sentiments and commended the students on their character and commitment to their academic journey.

Current National Junior Honor Society officers spoke about the five pillars of the organization and their importance: character, scholarship, leadership, service and citizenship. The officers lit a candle to

symbolize the pillars. Each of the 120 new inductees was called to the stage to be recognized and presented with a certificate by Dr. Falcon. West Babylon School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly administered the oath of induction to the newest members, who pledged to uphold the standards and principles of the National Junior Honor Society.

Town Of Babylon And Encon Industries Unveil New Garbage Truck Fleet Introduction Of 34 New Trucks To Yield Environmental, Safety, And Monetary Benefits

The Town of Babylon and Encon Industries recently unveiled 34 stateof-the-art garbage trucks that will serve the Town and provide tremendous environmental and safety benefits. This new fleet was built by Encon Industries specifically for the Town

of Babylon, with each truck depicting a scene of the Town’s beauty. At the unveiling press conference, Town of Babylon elected officials and Encon Industries executives eagerly discussed the benefits residents will experience from the new

trucks.

“With the fleet manufactured and delivered ahead of schedule, these beautiful new trucks are ready to dutifully serve our community,” said Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer. “They will efficiently

clean our streets, all while showcasing the lovely landscapes of the Town of Babylon and saving residents money.”

The Town of Babylon’s new contract with Encon Industries will keep the Town’s garbage taxes among the lowest on Long

Island. Encon Industries’ first 10-year-old contract saved residents over $124 million compared to the Town’s previous carter. This resulted in the Town’s per household rate being cut almost in half during this period.

“The unveiling of this

new fleet celebrates our continued tradition of savings with Encon Industries,” said Supervisor Schaffer. “We encourage residents to be on the lookout for these new trucks as they enhance our community and keep Babylon clean.”

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Summer 2023 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”

JHS Artists Place At BACCA

Painters from the Department of Public Works recently worked with Servpro Of Babylon/ Deer Park to complete the restoration of a 1901 Howitzer Cannon at the Sgt John Sardiello American Legion Post 1634 in West Babylon. The project, which began last winter and

was completed this past spring was unveiled at the conclusion of the West Babylon Memorial Day Parade in May.

The cannon’s condition was rapidly deteriorating with fading paint and rusting, and it was in desperate need of restoration. Crews from Servpro assisted with

pressure washing and hours of sanding, and our painters then got to work applying new militarygrade paint.

We were glad to work with Servpro and help restore this cannon back to its original glory for our veterans.

Blue And Gold Shine Bright At Top 25 Gathering

The top 25 students in the West Babylon Class of 2023 were honored for their accomplishments during the sixth annual Blue and Gold Brunch with the Superintendent on June 15. Hosted by West Babylon School District’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly and joined by district administrators, students were invited to celebrate their achievements

in the board of education room. The students were asked to choose a staff member who has greatly impacted their educational career to join them as their guest for the breakfast.

“Your character, resilience and perseverance shine through in everything you do,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Yiendhy Farrelly.

“You have all excelled in the classroom, on the athletics

field, in the arts, or in some cases, all of these areas. We are so proud to call you graduates of West Babylon and can’t wait to see all the amazing things you will do in the future.”

Dr. Farrelly called each student up to be recognized individually and presented him or her with a gift. The student then invited their honored guest to be acknowledged as well.

PSEG Long Island Employees Cheer On Athletes At Games For The Physically Challenged

A dozen PSEG Long Island employee, including interim President and COO David Lyons, recently cheered on athletes at the Nassau County Games for the Physically Challenged. The games, which were held in Garden City on June 2 and 3, give physically challenged athletes ages 5-21 the opportunity to compete in competitive sports and recreational activities adapted to their abilities.

PSEG Long Island has been a proud bronze medal sponsor of the games for the last two years.
