Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that they are hosting the 45th Annual Jones Beach Volleyball Tournament comprised of 6-player coed teams. This event will take place on Saturday, July 22, 2023 and will be held rain or shine.

The tournament will begin at 9:00AM on the volleyball courts at Central Mall Field 4 at Jones Beach State Park. The first round of matches will be played as a round robin. All teams are guaranteed to play seven games. The top two teams from each round robin bracket will advance on to the quarterfinals which will decide the two final teams. Cash prizes will be awarded to the 1st and 2nd place teams. The 3rd and 4th place teams will receive merchandise prizes.

Registration is FREE and is open until the roster is full. Players must be 14 years old or older to participate. Players of all skill levels are welcome to play and will be seeded accordingly. To register, please send your legible, completed application either by mail to Volleyball

Tears Of Happiness During Military Surprise

Two students at Forest Avenue Elementary School in the West Babylon School District – fourth grader Nicholas Zito and third grader Samantha Zito –

were left speechless when their father, Staff Sergeant Nicholas Zito, surprised them during their Field Day celebrations on June 15.

Zito is a member of the Army National Guard. For a little more than a year, he has been deployed in Africa — Djibouti, Somalia and Kenya. He hasn’t seen his

two children since.

The two Forest Avenue teachers – Ms. Craig and Mr. McKeown – thought it was important to celebrate the soldier’s return and helped to organize the event. The students were overcome with emotion and couldn’t contain their joy during the reunion, which included mom Diana Zito. Staff Sergeant Zito will now be stationed in Farmingdale for the next year.

The National External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations.

NEDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful candidates for NEDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of

The 21st Annual Long Island Bluegrass & Roots Music Festival

The Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts (BACCA) and the Town of Babylon, in cooperation with Suffolk County and the Bluegrass Club of Long Island, is pleased to announce the 21st Annual Long Island Bluegrass & Roots Music Festival, which will take place on August 19, 2023 at Tanner Park in Copiague, NY, located in a beautiful setting on the Great South Bay of Long Island from noon until 7:30pm.

The Long Island Bluegrass & Roots Music Festival is an afternoon of traditional Bluegrass, Americana, and Roots Music, plus workshops, food and beverage vendors, and fun! Bluegrass music workshops are available featuring performers from the main stage bands. There is also a hosted ‘Jam Area’ for those who play bluegrass music on any level and want to bring an instrument so they can join in during the afternoon.

Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

PSEG Long Island and Island Harvest Food Bank are kicking off PSEG Long Island’s third annual Power to Feed Long Island summerlong food drive initiative.

Continuing through Sept. 22 – the last full day of summer – collection drives will be set up at six supermarkets across Long Island, where community members can donate nonperishable food and essential care items. This year’s goal is to collect

the equivalent of 50,000 healthy, nutritious meals for Long Islanders facing food insecurity.

Online donations are being accepted throughout the campaign at psegliny. com/feedli. Island Harvest estimates each dollar donated provides roughly two meals.

“We created PSEG Long Island’s Power to Feed Long Island as a way to provide a venue for people to help people. In the past two years,
