Three North Babylon Firefighters Honored For 50 Years Of Service

Elected officials from the Town of Babylon recently congratulated Peter Alt, Daniel Caroleo & Paul Caroleo for their dedicated service to the North Babylon Fire Co. For the past 50 years, these three men have dedicated themselves to protecting the lives and property of their community. Through thick and thin, through triumphs and tragedies, they have stood steadfast in their commitment to serve and protect, no matter the cost. Deputy Supervisor & Councilman Tony Martinez said “Their dedication is a deep sense of duty and responsibility to the community they love. They do not seek recognition or praise for their actions; they simply do what needs

to be done because they believe in the importance of community”

Supervisor Rich Schaffer said, “As we celebrate their 50 years of service, let us take a moment to honor and appreciate the incredible contribution these men have made to the North Babylon community. Their legacy will continue to inspire future generations to strive for excellence, selflessness, and a deep commitment to the greater good.”

Councilman Terence McSweeney who also chairs public safety for the town said, “In a world where selfishness and indifference seem to be on the rise, the example set by these three men serves as a powerful reminder of the

importance of committed service. Their dedication and sacrifice have not only kept their community safe, but have also inspired others to follow in their footsteps and give back to their communities in meaningful ways.”

Supervisor Schaffer acknowledged knowing all 3 men for many years adding “Committed service is not just about fulfilling a job requirement – it is about embodying the values of duty, honor, and sacrifice in everything we do. These three men have shown us that true greatness lies in serving others with humility and integrity and that through our actions, we can make a lasting impression on generations of firefighters to come.”

Free Senior Medical ID Card Program

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso (R – Massapequa Park), in partnership with the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, is holding a FREE Senior Medical ID Card program on Wednesday, June 26th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the West

Babylon Public Library. The program is free and open to Suffolk County residents 50 years old and older.

The Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Medical ID Cards assist seniors or those with medical needs to keep all required

medical information available on a small card with them at all times in case of an emergency.

Hospital Association Offers $2,000 Scholarship

The Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council (NSHC) announces a $2,000 scholarship for college juniors/seniors or post graduate students who are studying Journalism, Marketing/ Communications, or Healthcare Administration. (The scholarship is not for clinical-based study.)

According to the National Weather Service, the summer solstice, which marks the official beginning of summer, occurs at the moment the earth’s tilt toward the sun is at a maximum. As a result, on the day of the summer solstice, which in 2024 occurs on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

Though it’s not always sunny on the summer solstice, when the sun is out throughout the solstice people in the Northern Hemisphere can expect more hours of sunlight than any other day of the year. That provides yet another reason to welcome the official arrival of summer.

in the winter, edible fruit trees and bushes, and a tumbling compost bin to help aid in the district’s continuing compost and recycling efforts.

“I started the Garden Club this year to provide students with hands-on opportunities to connect with nature, learn about sustainable food production and develop valuable life skills,” said Ms. Estrada. On average, the club consists of 15 students who meet once

a week after school for an hour and have been learning how to plant, harvest and maintain the garden of food crops and native plants.

Garden Club members are responsible for maintaining the garden as are the students in the career development program. Those students will harvest during the summer months as they are in session all year round.

“My goal is to expand to reach all students in the school focusing first on the food chemistry,

culinary, health, and nutrition classes with use of the garden’s harvest to teach with cooking demonstrations and tastings. Additionally, students will learn how to give back and help the community by donating the harvest to the food pantry at high school,” Estrada explained.

Future goals include having the elementary and middle schools visit to help harvest and support their science learning goals.

Legislator Donnelly And County Office For The Aging Announce Babylon And Huntington Spring Senior Advocate Schedule

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon and Huntington residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Spring 2024 Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”
