On Saturday, May 7th, Declan Davis of Troop 2014 in West Babylon received his Eagle Scout award in a ceremony at American Legion Post #94 in Babylon. For his project, Declan built two outside game tables for the patients of St. Mary’s Hospital for Children, a provider of long-term care to children with medically

complex conditions.

Declan is also one of three Troop 2014 Scouts that will graduate in the top ten of their class next month at West Babylon Senior High School!

On Friday, April 29th, Troop 398 and the Lindenhurst American Legion celebrated their newest Eagle in Ethan Xavier Lindenberg!

Presiding Officer of the Suffolk County Legislature Kevin McCaffrey was joined by other officials at both ceremonies, including Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Councilman Terence McSweeney, and Ed Wiggins of New York State Senator Phil Boyle’s Office.

Kindergartners Get Special Police Visit

Kindergartners at South Bay Elementary School in the West Babylon School District had a special visit from K9 Officer Mark Sacco, his dog Bosco and two dogs in training.

Students learned how K9s work to keep the community safe. The students hid objects from Officer Sacco around the playground and watched how Bosco was able to find

them all.

Afterward, Detective Chiquitucto did a presentation to the kindergarten class about fingerprints. He is a latent fingerprint analyst with Suffolk County Police Department’s Identification Section.

The class learned about the types of fingerprints people can leave behind.

The class watched him use two different types of fingerprint powder to see the characteristics of the fingerprints so he can use that information to match those fingerprints to people.

Little Flower Children and Family Services of New York (Little Flower) is a human services non-profit organization that transforms caring into action to deliver services, programs and direction to improve the lives of children and families in crisis and people with developmental disabilities across New York City and Long Island. They have been helping others for 93 years!

Little Flower has proudly adapted to address the unmet needs of those in their community by continuing to develop new programs and services. Their corporate headquarters and Suffolk County campus is still located in Wading River, however they also have a NYC campus, which is their flagship office in Brooklyn, along with ten residences across Queens and Long Island for individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities.

“During the pandemic, Little Flower continued to operate without disruption to ensure the safety and well-being of hundreds of children in foster care, youth in residential treatment care, and adults with developmental disabilities. The Caring Acts Coalition will provide much needed support to those served by Little Flower, their families, our staff, and the local community,” shared Corinne Hammons, Little Flower’s President & CEO. Little Flower was founded in 1929 by Catholic Priest Monsignor Bernard Quinn, who was looking for a haven for the youth of his parish in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, that were excluded from programs and services at the time. He opened a summer camp in Wading River that would eventually transition to a year-round residential treatment facility serving thousands of children, families and individuals with developmental disabilities.

During the months between graduating high school and beginning college, or between getting a university degree and entering the workforce, graduates may want to explore the personal growth that comes from volunteerism.

Juneteenth Festival Pop Up Shop Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States and has been celebrated

by African-Americans since the late 1800s.

It is a celebration of freedom that liberated all African Americans from slavery. This

year to commemorate the occasion entrepreneurs Star 23 Enterprise and Handbags by Denise are hosting a Juneteenth Festival Pop Up Shop on Saturday, June 18th from 1:00 pm - 6:00

pm at the Dominican Village located at 565 Albany Avenue in Amityville. This is a family fun day that will include music, food, vendors, and entertainment, and admission is free.

Presiding Officer McCaffrey Joins Sheriff’s Office Hockey Team In Fight Against Cancer On Saturday, May 7th, 2022, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office Hockey Team took on the New York Cancer Foundation in a charity hockey game at Dix Hills Ice Rink!

The charity showdown served as a rematch of the first “Hockey for Hope” game, which was won last August by the Sheriff’s.

Executive Director of the New York Cancer Center Tina MacNicholl-Toulon was on hand for the game, which also included Suffolk County Corrections Investigator Meghan Adamo singing a beautiful rendition of our National Anthem, and New York Cancer Foundation Grant Recipient Laura Stempkowski dropping the puck for the ceremonial face-off!

“Sheriff Toulon and his entire Office do a tremendous job

in protecting and serving the residents of Suffolk County,” said Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey from the bleachers of the ice rink, “and for them to continue to give back beyond their County service through raising funds for charity and encouraging the growth of the sport is truly inspiring.”

When the final horn sounded, the New York Cancer Foundation found itself victorious, keeping hold of a

four-to-zero shutout and tying the series between the Foundation and the Sheriff’s at one a piece.

Legislator Kevin McCaffrey represents Suffolk County’s 14th Legislative District, which encompasses the Villages of Lindenhurst and Babylon, the hamlets of West Babylon and North Lindenhurst, portions of Copiague, North Babylon, and Babylon’s barrier beach communities.

The Town of Babylon is excited to announce the completion of the “Cedar Beach Gallery” at Cedar Beach. The gallery, designed by local students, consists of numerous nautical-themed murals painted on both sides of the tunnel that runs under Ocean Parkway and connects Cedar Beach to Cedar Beach Marina & Campground.

The project, which began last October, was a joint effort initiated by the Parks Department in collaboration with the Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts, Inc. (BACCA) and the Town of Babylon Local Development Corporation (LDC) to bring much needed beautification to the tunnel. Local artist Ron Becker, who serves on the BACCA Advisory Panel, played a key role in facilitating the partnerships with local
