Food Drive In Partnership With Island Harvest To Attack Hunger On Long Island

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso (Massapequa Park), in coordination with Village of Babylon Mayor Mary Adams, Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey, and New York State Senator Alexis Weik, have partnered with Island Harvest to hold a

Food Collection Drive on Saturday, May 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the north parking lot of the Babylon Train Station.

Assemblyman Durso is asking local residents and community organizations to kindly donate nonperishable foods, personal care items & toiletries, household items, and baby

supplies. All items collected will be donated to Island Harvest and distributed to community-based non-profit organizations, veterans, families, individuals and seniors.

“Close to 300,000 Long Islanders, including children, veterans, and seniors, are food insecure and hungry,” said Durso.

CELEBRATING 70 YEARS - The Town Board recently attended the Parkdale Civic Associations’ celebration of its 70th year since formation. Many elected officials congratulated the residents for keeping the community strong and thanking the civic for their partnership with the government. Councilman McSweeney, a past president of this association, said “The residents of this community are what keeps this civic going. Over the years the community has come together on the first Monday of every month to unite under the same ideology of what can we do to continue to make our community even better.” Present from the Suffolk County Police Dept.’s 1st Precinct, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Dept., the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office and elected officials from every level of government stopped by.

Town of Babylon’s 150th Anniversary Parade

A little rain could not dampen any spirits as the Town of Babylon hosted its long-awaited 150th Anniversary parade! Headed off by Town Historian Mary Cascone and Town of Babylon Parks, the parade included floats dedicated to the history of each hamlet and village that make up the Town. Supervisor Rich Schaffer and the town board led the parade in the 150th commemorative float and stood by in the rain to waive to each hamlet as they marched on by.

Boy Scout Troop 399 Celebrated Its Winter Court Of Honor

On March 16, 2023, Boy Scout Troop 399 celebrated its Winter Court of Honor. More than 25 scouts achieved a higher rank and/or were awarded merit badges at the ceremony. The Court of Honor was attended by Troop 399 Scouts, the Scoutmaster and Assistant Scoumasters, Committee members, and parents. Boy Scouts

Daniel A. and Matthew C served as the Chaplain and Court of Honor Master of Ceremonies. All were proud of the Scouts’ dedication and accomplishments.

Boy Scout Troop 399 is a Boy Scout Troop based in North Babylon, NY, and a member of the Sagtikos District of the Boy Scouts of America’s Suffolk County Council.

Troop 399 is sponsored by the North Babylon Lions Club. Originally chartered in 1975, Troop 399 has been offering scouting opportunities and teaching boys to become leaders and serve their community for more than 40 years. Meetings are held most Thursday evenings at 7:30 PM during the school year.

The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which encompasses New York State’s Nassau, Su olk, Queens, and Kings (Brooklyn) Counties, was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. LIMEHOF, located in Stony Brook, is heavily engrossed in our local communities and o ers Long Islanders many ways to get involved.

Since 2004, their organization has Inducted over 120 music artists and related professionals who are now recognized in their new Stony Brook location. In addition to their large exhibition area, theater and o cial “Hall of Fame Museum”, the 8,800 square foot building is home to a beautiful performance area. They’re open Wednesdays-Sundays from 12 noon through 5pm. Admission prices are: Adult $19.50, Seniors (65+) and Veterans $17.00, Students (w/ID) $15.00. Children under 12 are free. Tickets and now gift cards can be purchased online and at the door.

Bird Walk At Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge

Join the South Shore Audubon Society on a bird walk on Sunday, May 21, starting at 9 AM, at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge.

To reach the Refuge, take the Southern State Parkway west to the Belt Parkway. Exit at Cross Bay Boulevard (Exit 17) south. Continue south on Cross Bay Blvd. through Howard Beach and over the

North Channel Bridge (also known as the Congressman Joseph P. Addabbo Bridge).

The entrance to the refuge parking lot is on the right side of the road, at a traffic light approximately one and a half miles past the bridge.

All are welcome. Walk leaders and other birders and nature enthusiasts will be happy to share their knowledge and experience

with you. The bird walk is free of charge. Bring binoculars. Rain will cancel the bird walk.

The Sarah Grace Foundation for Children with Cancer, Inc., is sponsoring a Spring Into Summer Walt Disney World Vacation Raffle. For just $20 per ticket, anyone can join in and be eligible to win a five-day, four-night stay in a Walt Disney World Deluxe Studio and a $500 Disney gift card.

The prize consists of a room which accommodates up to four people. The winner is responsible for all airfare, travel, food and park admission costs, and extras are not included. Travel dates must be flexible and be completed by March 31, 2024, and date options exclude Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Suffolk Legislators Donnelly And Richberg Co-Sponsor Resolution To Appoint North Babylon Resident To Task Force

Suffolk County Legislators

Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) and Jason Richberg (D-West Babylon) recently co-sponsored legislation to appoint North Babylon resident Ebonie Tudor to the county’s Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Task Force (MMMTF). The resolution passed unanimously at the Legislature’s May 2 general meeting.

A resident of the 17th Legislative District, Ms. Tudor, a doula and women’s wellness advocate, was appointed to the group as the Community Member from Western Portion of Suffolk County.

“I’m thrilled to have someone of Ebonie’s caliber serving on our task force and representing western Suffolk County. Residents of different areas of the county have different experiences receiving care, and we need

all voices heard,” said Suffolk County Legislature Minority Leader and founder of the county’s Maternal Morbidity and Mortality Task Force, Jason Richberg. “Maternal mortality rates are widely considered key indicators of the health of a society, and I was shocked to learn that the US ranks 55th among developed countries, with the highest rates being in communities of color. This task force brings together local experts including health officials, medical practitioners, advocates, midwifes and doulas who are working to better understand why this is the case and promote programs and services that will help lower those numbers. We’re already making progress, and my hope is that the task force will continue to help shine a light on this issue and provide real-world

solutions that we as elected officials can then bring to the public.”

Established by Introductory Resolution 1973-20 and originally sponsored by Legislator Richberg, the MMMTF has a mission to “study maternal morbidity and mortality rates with a specific focus on women of color and aftercare and to improve the health of mothers and infants in Suffolk County”

“Ebonie Tudor brings both expertise and a unique insight to this critically important task force,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I am so happy she volunteered to serve and it was an honor to suggest she be added to the panel, as well as a privilege to co-sponsor the legislation. I thank all of my colleagues in joining us in supporting her. “
