Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, and Councilman Terence McSweeney expressed gratitude towards the Long Island Builders Institute for spreading Easter cheer among the children of the Keep Your Change educational youth program. The donation of over 275 Easter baskets and a visit from the Easter Bunny brought joy to the program, and the town board appreciates LIBI's continuous support towards the KYC mission of aiding underserved students in achieving their academic and personal goals.

PSEG Long Island Employees Make Donation To Help Protect Power Lines, Wildlife And The Environment From Balloon Hazards

PSEG Long Island employees recently donated $1,000 to Merrick-based Balloon Mission, Inc. a notfor-profit organization that collects discarded balloons in an effort to protect wildlife and the environment.

Balloon safety is important to PSEG Long Island because metallic balloons can be hazardous to overhead electric lines – potentially causing fires and power outages, and also because of the negative effects released balloons can have on the ecosystem.

The donation was made through three of the company’s employee business resource groups (EBRG): GREEN, which is comprised of employeeadvocates of clean energy alternatives, LI Environmental Guardians, which supports local efforts to help preserve the earth, and the Able EBRG, which champions community

organizations that help people with disabilities.

The Association for Children with Down Syndrome (ACDS), which serves families of children and adults with disabilities, has been involved with Balloon Mission’s work. Adults receiving services from ACDS help Balloon Mission by collecting deflated balloons from various balloon drop box locations. The group then practices life skills by sorting and counting the balloons before they are safely and properly discarded.

Balloon Mission will use the PSEG Long Island donation to educate the public through community outreach and balloon collection programs, and by erecting informational signage at area parks and beaches about the dangers of balloon releases.

"We're so grateful for our partnership with PSEG

Long Island,” said Cynthia Seibold, founder and executive director of Balloon Mission, Inc. “This donation will help fund our recycling and education programs that raise awareness about the unintended harm balloons have when they're accidentally or purposely let go in the sky. We're pioneering a balloon collection program so people can responsibly enjoy balloons. Once the fun is done, they pop-n-drop balloons in our bins knowing they're keeping animals and the environment safe, while reducing the risk of fires and power outages."

“We are supporting this wonderful organization that is raising awareness about the potential dangers balloons can have on our environment,” said Anna Keselman, co-president of the PSEG Long Island GREEN EBRG. “We are inspired by Cynthia’s

enthusiasm and her organization’s mission to protect turtles, sea life and our lands.”

PSEG Long Island reminds the public that balloons released into the air can become entangled in

overhead electric equipment and cause a host of problems. Metallic balloons conduct electricity and resting on an electric line or other electrical equipment could lead to power outages, fire and, possibly, injuries.

Balloons caught on electrical equipment should be reported to PSEG Long Island at 800-490-0075 so a specially trained crew can safely address the issue.

Recycled And Found: International Mixed Media Virtual Arts Exchange And Exhibition

Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts (BACCA) and Sognare Insieme Viaggi travel agency are proud to announce their partnership in presenting an innovative international arts exchange: the “Recycled and Found” mixed media exhibition.

This is one of many special events as BACCA celebrates its 50th year of service to the community through the arts. This virtual showcase will bring together artists from Calabria, Italy, and Long Island, New York and the Greater New York Metro area, inviting them to redefine artistic boundaries by crafting mixed media artworks from unconventional found materials.

Calabria, Italy and Long Island, New York, both have vibrant artistic communities eager to foster connections and champion environmental stewardship. The Recycled

Mixed media on recycled paper, recycled objects on wooden support

and Found exhibition serves as a platform for these artists to collaborate, inspire, and envision a sustainable future through their creative expression.

Participating artists were encouraged to utilize a variety of discarded

materials including, but not limited to, plastic waste, reclaimed metal, and paper within their work. The exhibition aims to challenge viewers to reconsider the value of everyday items while promoting sustainable practices through art.

Take Steps Towards A Longer, Healthier Life On National Walking Day

The American Heart Association Invites People To Move More And Stress Less As Organization Celebrates 100 Years

Physical activity is one of the best ways to improve overall health and manage stress, yet 1 in 4 U.S. adults are sedentary for more than eight hours each day, which can have negative consequences on physical and mental health. The American Heart Association, the nation’s oldest and largest organization dedicated to fighting heart disease and stroke, established National Walking Day to encourage people to move more throughout their day. This year, in celebration of the organization’s Centennial, communities across the country are invited to gather on Wednesday, April 3 to take a walk and raise awareness of the benefits of movement.

Of Lifesaving Work

“The American Heart Association is a relentless force for building healthier communities, one step at a time,” said Evelina Grayver, M.D., President of the American Heart Association on Long Island and Director, Women’s Heart Program, Katz Institute for Women’s Health, Northwell Health’s Central Region. “National Walking Day demonstrates the progress that can happen when people come together and take steps, big or small, to improve the health of their communities.”

Walking is one of the simplest ways to get and stay active. Physical activity such as walking can help reduce stress, improve mood and

sleep, and lower the risk of diseases. To participate in National Walking Day, the American Heart Association offers these tips:

Ask colleagues, friends or family to join you.

If you work remotely, take a conference call on the go.

If you have a pet, get moving together! Walking is a win-win for the health of you and your pet.

To participate in National Walking Day, invite friends, family, colleagues or even a pet to join in on a walking route of your choice.

For more tips about getting and staying healthy, visit the American Heart Association’s Healthy for GoodTM initiative at heart. org/movemore.

Long Island include Bri Sander (UpSculpt), Gregory Rapp, Tom Brydelsky, Sarah Vitale, and Scott Schneider (Toxic/Nature Studios).

Featured artists from Italy include Curator Luigi Impieri, Stefano Ricci, Antonio Froio, Delio Piccioni, Alfredo Granata, and Antonio De Pietro.

Key objectives of the exhibition include forming an organizing committee of artists representing both Italy and the USA, inspiring viewers to become agents of change in their communities, fostering collaborative work, and establishing a unique framework for international arts and ideas exchange.

The program will feature:

A Virtual Art Exhibition: An online 3D gallery showcasing the work of ten

artists, with five residing in Italy and five in New York.

Artist Panel Discussions for Exchange: Selected artists will engage in a private “working and sharing session” and an online panel discussion, which will be recorded and open to the public, where they will discuss their work and artistic practices. Details on all events will be available on babylonarts.org.

Important Date:

Virtual Exhibition Closes:

December 31st, 2024

Join us as we celebrate creativity, environmental consciousness, and crosscultural exchange.

Pet Food Drive For Baxter’s Pet Pantry

Suffolk County Legislator

Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to again join Long Island Cares and help it “rain food for cats and dogs” by hosting a pet food drive now through the end of May.

Legislator Donnelly’s district office is serving as a drop-off location for the 13th Legislative Pet Food Drive where much-needed pet food and supplies will be collected to benefit Baxter’s Pet Pantry of Long Island Cares (www. licares.org). In previous years, constituents of the 17th Legislative District have generously donated to this annual drive.

All donations go directly to Baxter’s Pantry. While 5 and 10 pound bags of dog and cat food, canned food, kitty litter and new pet toys are most needed, all pet nourishments are welcome including food for hamsters, fish, birds and ferrets.

Items may be dropped off at Legislator Donnelly’s District Office, located at 130 West Jericho Turnpike in Huntington Station, Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9 am and 4 pm until May 31. As per health code requirements, all pet food must be unopened and in original packaging. For more information or to make an appointment to donate outside of these hours, call (631) 854-4433.

“Hard times impact all members of the family, including our animal companions,” said Legislator Donnelly. “Families shouldn’t have to decide between feeding themselves and feeding their beloved pets. I am happy to partner with Long Island cares again on this important and much needed cause.”

Retiring Early

According to Gallup’s 2021 Economy and Personal Finance survey, the average individual in the United States is retiring earlier than many people might expect. Gallup found that the average retirement age was 62, which is two years earlier than the working respondents indicated they planned to retire. Canadians are retiring a little bit later than their American counterparts, as Statistics Canada reports the average

retirement age in Canada is just over 63 and a half. The average retirement age is worth noting, as studies routinely find that many working professionals greatest concern about retiring is that they won’t have enough money saved to meet their needs. Babylon School District Honors Security Personnel

The Babylon School District recognized security guard Tom Parson for his help while police conducted an investigation near the Babylon Memorial Grade and Elementary schools in early March.

Mr. Parson was vital to maintaining a sense of normalcy at the two schools despite a heavy police presence nearby. He was able to rely on his experience as a Suffolk

County police officer, now retired, to work with the investigators, inform District administration of any potential disruptions the investigation might cause, and modify daily routines to safeguard students and shield them from potentially disturbing or disruptive activity. He also ensured that media presence, including television cameras and reporters, did not stray too

close to the schools and disrupt instruction.

“Mr. Parson was essential in helping us keep our students in the classrooms, learning and going about their days in as close to a normal setting as possible despite the upsetting and disturbing circumstances,” said Superintendent of Schools Carisa Manza. “We wanted to make sure his service and help did not go unnoticed.”
