TOWN OF BABYLON DECLARES MARCH IRISH-AMERICAN MONTH

During a recent board meeting, Supervisor Rich Schaffer and the town board officially declared March as Irish-American Heritage Month in the Town of Babylon, recognizing the significant contributions of Irish ancestors and their descendants and the shared values between Ireland and the United States. The Babylon Ancient Order of Hibernians, led by President Jim McGrath, accepted the resolution, with Pipe Major Bob Farrell performing a beautiful hymn to mark the occasion. Councilman Terence McSweeney sponsored the resolution, highlighting early Irish immigrants' diverse roles in shaping American society, from teachers and firefighters to business owners and more. McSweeney even got a chuckle and applause from those in attendance when he mentioned one of his favorite contributions was the invention of Guinness. Supervisor Schaffer announced that the town hall's Coppola would be illuminated in green throughout March as a tribute to Irish-American Heritage Month.

The Babylon Fire Dept. was honored at this years Suffolk County REMSCO CPR awards for their heroic action on Easter Sunday in 2023.

Babylon FD, was dispatched to a cardiac arrest patient. The patient was visiting the home of

one of the Babylon Village volunteer firefighters when he suddenly went into cardiac arrest. High quality CPR was immediately started by firefighters Giuseppe Pergolotti and Richard Nixon, as well as Giuseppe’s wife April, who is a nurse.

The ambulance crew arrived and applied an AED, and the patient was defibrillated three times in an attempt to revive him. En route to the hospital the patient not only regained spontaneous circulation but was conscious and alert. The patient, who was

discharged with no deficits, joined the firefighters at the ceremony. The national average for cardiac arrest survival is 7-8%. The positive outcome of this situation can be largely attributed to the quick actions of those on the scene and the

immediate high-quality CPR they provided.

Town of Babylon Councilman Terence McSweeney was on hand for this award ceremony and said “The commitment and dedication displayed by our volunteer firefighters make them

truly exceptional. I’m honored to be here to celebrate with our Babylon Village firefighters and EMS personnel who are an exceptional group of individuals and deserve recognition for their selfless service.”

1. To elect one (1) trustee to the North Babylon Public Library Board. The candidate with the most votes will serve a five-year term beginning July 1, 2024 and ending June 30, 2029. The incumbent position is currently held by Ira Hester.

2. To adopt the Annual Library District Budget for the 20242025 fiscal year, and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the Library District.

Trustee of the North Babylon Public Library must be filed with the Office of the District Clerk of the North Babylon Public Library, 815 Deer Park Avenue, North Babylon, New York 11703, between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, not later than 5:00 PM on Monday March 11, 2024. Each candidate must be a qualified voter and must reside in the area served by the North Babylon Public Library. Assemblyman Durso Announces

Annual Pet Food Drive

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso (Massapequa Park), in coordination with Long Island Cares, is inviting the community to participate in his annual Pet Food Drive to help families keep their pets out of shelters and remain at home where they belong.

Assemblyman Durso is asking residents, community organizations and pet lovers to kindly donate unopened bags of dog and cat food, canned pet food and pet supplies. All items collected will

be donated to Baxter’s Pet Pantry, operated by Long Island Cares, which provides free pet food and pet supplies to pet-owning families in need throughout Long Island.

Donations can be dropped off at Assemblyman Durso’s district office located at 512 Park Boulevard in Massapequa Park or at various other locations throughout Nassau and Suffolk Counties through April 5, 2024

Legislator Donnelly And County Office For The Aging Announce Babylon Winter Senior Advocate Schedule

Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Deer Park) is pleased to inform Babylon residents about the local Suffolk County Office for the Aging Winter 2024

Senior Advocate Schedule. Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification

applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.

“This is an excellent chance for senior citizens to get the assistance and information they need by connecting with the County’s senior advocates right in their own communities,” said Legislator Donnelly. “I hope all those interested in the services that the

Suffolk County Office for the Aging provides will take advantage of this opportunity.”
