This organization also runs a program called Heart & Sole.

This is their middle school program that meets the unique needs of girls in 6th-8th grade.

Heart & Sole takes girls as a whole into consideration body, brain, heart, spirit and social connection - in a positive and structured space, where participants can learn about themselves, explore new ideas, cultivate empathy and stregthen connections. Running is incorporated into each lesson to encourage physical wellness.

These girls also prepare for a celebratory 5K event at the end of the program.

They serve girls in grades 3-5 and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, interactive curriculum, which creatively integrates running! Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event.

ART PARTNERSHIP PROGRAM - Babylon Village Arts Council is proud to announce its art partnership program with the Babylon High School Art Department to foster the love of art . Two Babylon High School students, Jenna Tiger and Hannah Bushery will create works of art with supplies provided by BVAC in the amount of $200 per student. Under the guidance of Cheryl Schweider, art teacher at Babylon High School, students will learn time management skills, budget constraints, and design options. To experience a real -life art exhibit, participants will exhibit their work at the 13th Annual Outdoor Art show “Art by the Falls” on May 16 in Argyle Park. Babylon Memorial Grade School Students Host Virtual Interview

On Jan. 22, fifth graders in Amy Malone, Debbie Gandiello, and Nicole Cupo’s ELA class at Babylon Memorial Grade School honed their journalistic skills through a unique interactive activity. As part of their unit on feature writing, the students conducted a Skype interview of Nicole Ficarra, who became a quadriplegic at 4 years

old as a result of a bad car accident.

Prior to the interview, the fifth graders conducted internet research on spinal cord injuries to gain background knowledge. They then prepared questions on a variety of topics related to Ficarra’s experiences and adapted lifestyle. During the interview, students took turns asking their

questions and diligently recorded Ficarra’s responses so they could later incorporate them into two collaborative feature articles.

This lesson not only taught the students how to conduct and synthesize research like true journalists, but also to have empathy for those who are differently abled and to maintain a positive attitude like Ficarra.

“All In For A Cure” Joangela DeLorenzo, daughter of Wayside Fence’s President Doug DeLorenzo, is fundraising for “All in for a Cure”, a team in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Students of the Year” campaign for a second year in a row. This is a 7-week journey to raise money for cancer research.

Everyone is welcomed to join Joangela and her Team on Sunday, February 23rd from 2pm-5pm at the Babylon American Legion, 22 Grove Place, Babylon, for an afternoon of fun & shopping for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. New and gently used purses & ties will be for sale with 100% of the proceeds going towards cancer research.
