Spring Fundraiser
O
n April 17th, the Birch Lane PTA held their yearly Spring Fundraiser. Thanks to many local businesses, families and local people in the community, there were over 125 baskets raffled off. This fundraiser is the largest one that the school puts together, and the funds are used to bring programs into the school for the children. Thanks to the volunteers who helped plan this successful event.

The Crisis Center, the 24 hour-a-day, 7 day-a-week suicide prevention and crisis intervention hotline, is currently recruiting volunteers to participate in its upcoming Counselor Assistant Training Program. No experience is necessary and the hours are flexible (around-theclock) to accommodate the individual needs of volunteers. The free, comprehensive orientation training program takes place over 3 three-hour sessions at the Crisis Center’s office in Bellmore. May’s training will be held on 3 successive Thursday evenings from 7 to 10 p.m. on May 9th, 16th and 23rd. Long Island Art Teachers Association 2013 Art In Heart Exhibition is celebrating Youth Art Month. This annual exhibit includes art work from schools across Nassau County. The prestigious show includes work in a wide variety of subjects and media, created by students from Kindergarten through Advanced Placement High School courses. There is a juried component for secondary students (MS/HS), and a companion exhibition of member-teacher artwork on display. Mrs Wolfe, The art teacher at Birch Lane School had 3 students in the show: Julia Strazzeri, grade 1 - lion painting; Isabella D’Orio, grade 3 - made an aboriginal art style crab; and Nicole Horn, grade 6 - made a self portrait in paint and ink. The exhibit is located at The Broadway Mall, in Hicksville. The work will be on display in a secure location that will be open to the public at various times during the exhibition dates.
