To recognize Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Northwell Health will hold a free education event about breast reconstruction surgery options from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22 at Northwell Health’s Corporate Conference Center at 2000 Marcus Avenue in New Hyde Park.

Northwell’s highly experienced plastic surgeons will discuss advanced breast reconstruction techniques and talk about various considerations that go into making choices about breast reconstruction. Participants will meet with women who have undergone breast reconstruction, share their stories and also see their results.

Northwell’s plastic surgeons are at the forefront of innovation, performing 3D microsurgery, robotic mastectomy and reconstruction and lymphatic reconstructions as well as pioneering work

to enhance recovery after breast reconstruction.

Keynoting the event will be Stacey Sager, a reporter at New York’s WABC-TV. The expert panel of plastic reconstructive breast surgeons includes: Armen Kasbian, MD; Lyle Leipziger, MD; Victor Moon, MD; Adam Perry, MD; Mark Smith, MD; and Neil Tanna, MD. The panel discussion will be followed by a question and answer period and a private session where participants will be able to see breast reconstruction first-hand.

The Charity of the Month for October is: The Cemetery of Lost Souls (lostsoulsli.com) Benefitting Melissa’s Wish The Cemetery of Lost Souls is a grass roots organization that gears up each year to create an elaborate Haunted House on the founder’s property, located at 350 Broadway in Massapequa Park. Every bit of money raised through their annual e v e n t (admission, donations, sponsorships, etc.) is given to a chosen charity.

They have raised a lot of money over the years in donations alone and have donated to charities such as Autism Speaks, The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Long Island Cares.

This year they will bring the community a new interactive experience with the second Lost Souls Walk-Thru haunt, new rooms, new scares and new thrills! The event will run on October 18-19, 25-26, 31 and November 1-2 from 7PM-11:30PM. The chosen charity for 2019 is Melissa’s Wish, a non-profit organization founded with the purpose of providing short term, non-medical financial aid in the form of a grant to caregivers who are assisting those afflicted with a serious illness, injury or end of life event.

You can become involved with the Cemetery of Lost Souls in many ways. They are actively looking for volunteers in the following areas: Digital Marketing (to help with social media marketing), Scare Team Members (actors to help put on the event), Security (watching over the event and making sure all guests are safe), and Bake Team Members (to donate baked

goods to sell at some of the events).

Volunteers must be 16 years of age and volunteer time can count towards community service hours!

Once again, Dutch Lane Elementary School in Hicksville opened its doors to students in grand fashion at the start of the new year as the school hosted its second annual Back to School Pep Rally. This year’s theme was “In a World Where You Can Be Anything ... Be Kind.”

Each Dutch Lane class created its own banner to showcase student school spirit and show others that they know how to be kind.

Many of the banners also focused on goal setting and character building. The rally was held in the school gymnasium to the backdrop of enthused, cheering students and staff members.

At the conclusion of the pep rally, the entire school recited the Dutch Lane School pledge, which touches on the importance of working hard, trying your best and being kind to others.

A Pep Rally For Kindness

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that the Town is seeking experienced coaches for its successful Youth Ice Hockey and House League Program.

“While the Town’s program maintains popularity year-round, the cooler weather brings with it a greater participation in our youth ice hockey program,” said Supervisor Saladino. “The Town is looking for experienced hockey coaches looking for a fun and rewarding way to spend their time. What

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and The Workforce Partnership today announced that a Mega Job Fair will take place on Wednesday, October 30th at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center, located at 1001 Stewart Avenue in Bethpage. There is no charge for admission and parking is free. Veterans’ admission begins an hour earlier, at 9:00 a.m., while doors for General Admission open at 10:00 a.m. The event runs until 2:00 p.m.

Employers from across Long Island will be seeking candidates for positions including entry and middle management level, licensed professional, hospitality and food service industries, banking, staffing and individuals with technical and IT experience.

Supervisor Saladino stated, “The Workforce Partnership and Town of

Oyster Bay are committed to helping residents find meaningful employment opportunities as well as assisting local businesses in recruiting qualified employees. This Mega Job Fair will connect private and public sector employers with job seekers, while also providing attendees with employability workshops onsite.”

The Town of Oyster Bay serves as administrator of The Workforce Partnership, a consortium of local governments funded by the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act that provides free, valuable resources to both employers and job seekers at Career Centers in Hicksville and Massapequa. These centers help train employees to meet the needs of the private sector, connecting qualified job seekers with employers, and by assisting applicants in accessing job

Computer workshops are taught on-site in modern computer labs. Residents can increase their marketability by updating or acquiring new computer skills at the Centers.
