the actions of our amazing residents who sign up for this fundraising ride,” said Supervisor Saladino. “With two wheels, our residents can change the world. I look forward to seeing everyone on event day, and I encourage any one of any age or riding ability to sign up for the event, as three course routes will be featured.” The event will feature 3 course lengths: a 10mile route spanning the shoreline from Bayville to Centre Island (ideal for family and children), a 25mile route featuring the scenic rolling hills from Bayville through Locust Valley, Glen Cove and Old Brookville (for more experienced riders) and a 62-mile route through Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Roslyn Harbor, to Port Washington, and then all the way to Teddy Roosevelt’s
home at Sagamore Hill (for advanced cyclists). By participating in Empire State Ride Long Island, bicyclists will have an opportunity to make a real impact on cancer research and patient care through clinical trials at these locations. In 2021, over $100,000 was raised by nearly 250 riders. Registration is now open for this fundraising event with a $25 fee for each participant. Riders will commit to a fundraising minimum which is $200 for adults and $75 for riders under 18 for all routes. To kick start each rider’s efforts, their $25 registration fee will be credited to their fundraising page. Those interested in learning more or signing up to ride and raise funds for the event, should visit www.esrlongisland.com.
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino recently announced that ‘Dressed to Kilt,’ the most prestigious and exciting Scottish fashion event in the world, will be coming to the Town of Oyster Bay. Dressed to Kilt, founded by Scottish actor Sir Sean Connery in 2003, is an annual charity fashion show that raises funds to benefit the Navy SEAL Foundation. The show will take place on the evening of Saturday July 23rd at the Mill Neck Manor Estate in Mill Neck. “Dressed to Kilt is a well-established charity fashion event that has a long history of serving veterans on both sides of the Atlantic. In previous years, the show has raised funds for organizations such as The Erskine Hospital, Paralyzed Veterans of America, and The Wounded Warrior
Project, all benefitting the brave men and women who fought in protection of our freedoms,” said Supervisor Saladino. “It’s sure to be an entertaining evening on Oyster Bay’s beautiful Gold Coast, and all for a great cause.” This year’s theme is ‘Dress for AdventureFrom the Highlands to the Hamptons,’ featuring clothing for all things outdoorsy, including but
not limited to hunting, shooting and fishing. Participating models in the show will include Navy SEAL veterans, US Congressional Medal of Honor recipients, A-list celebrities and athletes. The show is open to the public and includes a pre-show cocktail party, a post-show buffet, open bar and dancing. Tickets can be purchased at www. dressedtokilt.com.

because in the long run it will enable us to reach our most important goals.” Valedictorian Olivia Schmidt noted the importance of loved ones and those closest to you in achieving one’s goals. “These past few years have been everything but simple or easy, and I believe that much of our endurance is rooted in our community, our love and support of one another,” she said before thanking her family members, teachers and advisors for all of their help along the way. “If I have learned anything, it’s that nothing is more important than the relationships in your life.” Principal James Murray took stock of the major events of the past few years, both momentous and tragic, and expressed his pride in the leadership the high school community has shown, most recently in the wake of the latest school shooting in Uvalde,
Texas. “You started our school year as young teenagers, and here now you are leading as young adults, able and willing to use your voices for change,” he said. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary O’Meara asked the graduating students to be open to change, should the need arise. “Where you are in any one given moment does not have to determine where you will be in the future,” she said. “There will be many times in your lives where you will be faced with questions such as ‘is this really where I want to be?’ or “Is this really the person I want to be?’ When contemplative questions come your way, make time to contemplate. Do not let the busyness of life, the surety of a previous decision or the fear of the mountain ahead of you stop you from reflecting and considering your options.”

Plainview-Old Bethpage School District Celebrates Careers Of Retiring Staff The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District celebrated the careers of 22 retiring teachers and staff on June 21st. Administrators recounted the years–and in many cases, decades– of service the retirees, who ranged in roles from clerk to assistant superintendent for business, had pledged to the District, and the essential parts they played in maintaining the tradition of excellence in POB schools. Many remarked on the additional time the retirees would have to spend with their family members and loved ones, many of whom were in attendance, now that their careers in education were behind them. “These dedicated teachers and staff have done so much for our District over the years and we want to congratulate them for a job well done,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary O’Meara said. “Each one has a fingerprint on our
students’ successes and has made a tangible impact on generations of students who have passed through our doors.” Retiring staff for the 20222023 school year are: • Catherine Amato • Karen Bezzina • Richard Cunningham • Diane DeLuca • Patrick Echausse • Thomas W. The graduating seniors of Plainview-Old Bethpage John F. Kennedy High School marked the end of one journey, and the beginning of another on June 26 as the class of 2022 celebrated their commencement ceremony. Speakers reflected on the last four years, and gave advice for the many more to come before the young adults took the last steps of their high school careers and received their diplomas. Salutatorian Justine Choi advised her peers to not lose sight of the smaller tasks in front of them, lest they become overwhelmed by the bigger picture. “Wherever we end up after high school, whether its college, trade school, a gap year, the military or a job, it’s important to keep in mind the significance of taking small steps,” she said. “Because change is the result of many cumulative actions, and

Walsh Invites Scouts To Help Reduce Water Pollution Through New Environmental Program To help reduce water pollution in our town, Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Vicki Walsh invites Scouts to participate in the Town’s new Strom Drain Medallion Marker Program. This program involves the placement of green medallions, with the slogan “only rain in the drain” onto the face of Town storm drain covers, thus reminding residents how critical it is for the safety of our waterways that only rain pass through curbside storm drains. “As water flows from outdoor surfaces like streets, parking lots, and driveways, it enters curbside storm drains that eventually discharge directly into our waterways. There is no treatment process before this water
reaches a river, lake, or other water body, so any litter that comes in contact with it is transported along with the clean water,” Councilwoman Walsh said. “Contaminants are then able to enter into the Long Island Sound, South Shore Bay, and other bodies of water where swimming and boating take place. Therefore, it is vitally important for our water quality and environmental state that these contaminants never enter our waterways, which is why the Town launched this educational initiative.” The Town of Oyster Bay Department of Environmental Resources will provide volunteers all necessary supplies, including the medallion,
adhesive glue to attach the medallion to the storm drain, a map of storm drain locations that need a medallion, and safety instructions. Scouts can choose to place medallions in their local community or be assigned a location in the Town of Oyster Bay. Spring and Summer offer the best weather for this initiative. If you are interested in volunteering, please complete the form at www.oysterbaytown.com/ stormdrains. Only one person per team needs to register. You can register for multiple supply kits at one time. Please call the Department of Environmental Resources at (516) 677-5943 with any questions.

Saladino Recognizes Hicksville Eagle Scout
SALADINO RECOGNIZES HICKSVILLE EAGLE SCOUT - Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino (front row, center right) recently joined with Hicksville High School Principal Raymond Williams (back row, center) to recognize Eagle Scout Rohan Manjrekar (middle row, third from right) for his incredible work beautifying Town Parklet H6 on Glenbrook Road and Boulevard Drive in Hicksville for his Eagle Scout Project. Rohan, also of Hicksville, refurbished the entire basketball court, built four wooden benches, repainted the basketball hoop backboards and rims, and installed new nets. Great work Rohan!
Officials Distribute Over 200 Free Lifejackets To Children Alongside NYS Police Chiefs
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilwoman Laura Maier, and Receiver of Taxes Jeff Pravato joined with Nassau County Legislator Steven Rhoads and the NYS Police Chiefs Association to distribute over 200 free lifejackets to children aged infant through 12 as summer kicks off and families spend more time on the water.
“In addition to being the law of the land for all children under 12 years of age in New York State, the decision to wear a lifejacket is one that can save a life,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Even the strongest of swimmers can be compromised or unable to find a life vest during a dangerous situation, which is why this event is so critical.”
The free lifejackets distributed at this event were made possible thanks to the New York State Police Chiefs Association and charitable funds they derive from South Shore Marine Supply, Guardian Bus, Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, EXIT Realty Dreams, Jersey Mike’s Subs and local author, Gary Slavin.
OVER 200 FREE LIFEJACKETS DISTRIBUTED - Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Councilwoman Laura Maier, Receiver of Taxes Jeff Pravato and Nassau County Legislator Steven Rhoads joined with the NYS Police Chiefs Association to distribute more than 200 free lifejackets to children so they may enjoy the water safely this summer.

New allweather footing in the Grand Prix Ring will allow for an expanded schedule featuring the 5* and 2* as well as some new divisions. “We are truly excited about hosting a CSI 5* and having the opportunity to expand our schedule,” said Shanette Barth Cohen, the Classic’s Executive Director. “Our new all-weather footing enables us to hold more classes in the Grand Prix Ring and our move to 5* status is sure to attract the best horses and riders from all across the country and beyond.” The Hampton Classic will host a live discussion on Clubhouse to discuss the new schedule and footing on Thursday, March 10 at 6:00 p.m. All are invited to participate. The footing is being installed by Travis Gould and his JTWG, Inc. It is engineered using the same stateof-the-art processes that were used for the new footing in the International Arena at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center in Wellington, Florida and Tryon Stadium in Tryon, North Carolina, both of which have received rave reviews. The laboratory design and modeling of the footing for those “UltraCompetition” arenas was done by Bill Hawe, CEO of iEquiTek, LLC, who is overseeing the project for the Hampton Classic. The state-of-the-art processes being employed for the Hampton Classic by this team will also be used for the 2023 Longines FEI Jumping World CupTM Finals in Omaha. “I think this is fantastic news,” said seven-time Hampton Classic Grand Prix champion McLain Ward. “The Hampton Classic has always been one of our sport’s premier events, equal to any Five Star. Now with official Five Star status plus its new footing that has proven at Wellington to be as good as there is, the Hampton
Classic will solidify its position as one of the most outstanding events in the world.” Ultra-Competition arenas are an example of the most extremely fine-tuned riding surfaces. Utilizing lab measurements, coupled with comparisons in the iEquiTek database, formulae are developed to improve certain aspects of the peak performance. The speeds and heights of CSI 5* competitions in general make for a narrow aperture of what is acceptable, even in the best of conditions. CSI 5* competitions may be held in the rain, yet still demand 5* levels of performance. Bill Hawe, from iEquiTek said, “The Hampton Classic is to be commended for its all-in commitment to advancing the state-of-the-art for performance, safety and horse welfare. This helps change the sport for the better. We are very excited to partner with the Hampton Classic on this project.” The Grand Prix Ring is the centerpiece of the Classic’s six show rings. Longines is the Official Timekeeper for the Hampton Classic which will also be adding new divisions such as Low Adult and Children’s Jumpers, Low Adult and Children’s Hunters and 3’6” High Performance Hunters. This will allow some exhibitors who have never previously had the chance to ride at the Hampton Classic to do so. More details on this year’s schedule will be forthcoming soon.
