Hicksville School District Offers Emergency Extended Childcare

Nassau’s Public Libraries Announce Digital Library Card • Fifty public libraries in Nassau County, are offering a digital-only library card • Residents of Nassau County who do not currently have a library card can get one at nassaulibrary.org/ digital-card-application • Anyone who has a local library card can utilize the digital resources of their local library, as well as the shared resources of the member libraries of the Nassau Library System, including ebooks, digital magazines, study support, and continuing education for children and adults.

Nassau Library System, a cooperative of 54 independent public libraries serving Nassau County, is pleased to announce that fifty local libraries now offer a digital library card. This new tool will allow residents of Nassau County who do not already have a card to utilize the digital resources of their library while facilities are closed due to the spread of coronavirus. Having access to library resources is essential for people at all stages of their lives, especially during times like these. Since public libraries across the County are currently closed,

The Hicksville School District is participating in the SCOPE Emergency Child Care Program, which offers tuition free childcare to families of workers identified as essential during the COVID-19 response.

New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo has determined that all businesses, with the exception of essential businesses, must remain closed. Therefore, the children of first responders and medical service providers, transit workers and other workers deemed essential by the state may attend these programs – tuition free.

Knapp Family COVID-19 Health Crisis Challenge Grant Seeks to Raise $1,000,000 Matching Grant of Up to $500,000 Will Help Keep Healthcare Professionals Safe in Their Fight Against COVID-19 Long Island Community Hospital has announced that the Knapp Family COVID-19 Health Crisis Challenge has awarded a $500,000 matching grant made possible by the KnappSwezey Foundation, Island Outreach Foundation and Gardener Foundation to help raise vital funding for the community hospital in their fight against COVID-19.

“I’m extremely grateful and proud to announce this new initiative from the Knapp Family, valued members of our LI Community Hospital family, that will greatly enhance our ability to fight COVID-19 right here in our community,” said Richard T. How Does The New Coronavirus Affect You And Your Pets?

Pet owners can rest easy that there is no reason to believe that dogs or cats in the United States might be a source of infection for the new coronavirus disease — COVID-19 — or cause its spread according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia.

And so far, according to the CDC, there have been no reports of pets becoming sick with COVID-19.

This coronavirus appears to be primarily transmitted from human to human. As a pet owner, you may have heard of canine coronavirus, an intestinal infection in dogs, especially puppies, and feline coronavirus, which can cause feline infectious peritonitis (FIP). These types of coronaviruses have been around for quite some time and are not associated with the current outbreak.

To protect yourself, your family, and possibly even

your pets, from this new coronavirus, you should follow these precautions: • Frequently wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water (use hand sanitizer with more than 60 percent alcohol if you can’t wash) • Avoid close contact with people who are sick—stay at least three feet away • Cover your mouth/ nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze, then throw away the used tissues and wash your hands • Stay at home if you are sick • Sanitize often-used surfaces in your home and office If you do become sick with COVID-19, how then should you care for your pet? The CDC recommends that you restrict contact with pets and other animals just as you would with people. Ask another member of your

household to care for your pets while you are sick. If you must do it yourself, wash your hands before and after you interact and wear a facemask. The toughest part for pet lovers is that you must remember that you really should not be petting, snuggling, or sharing kisses or food with your pet!
