RecruitNY Nearly 400 fire departments across New York State have already signed up for the seventh annual RecruitNY weekend, a major initiative of the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York (FASNY). On April 29th30th, firehouses across the State will open their doors to the public in

an effort to increase membership in the volunteer fire service.

Members of the public are invited to visit their local firehouses, where volunteer firefighters will be conducting tours of their facilities, demonstrating firefighting techniques, and allowing visitors to try on turnout gear.

These activities, and more, will give visitors a taste of what it means to be in the fire service, and volunteer firefighters will be on hand to discuss the requirements and rewards of joining.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend, including families with children.

Check the Calendar So much of life is spent planning, filling in those square boxes on the calendar with appointments and meetings and lunch dates and movie outings.

And yet, very little of that time is spent doing things we truly enjoy. Even certain social engagements seem to take on a sense of obligation, of fitting in “fun” simply so that we can check off “reconnecting with old friends” from the neverending to do list.

To do, or not to do, that is the question. Sure, there are plenty of things we “have” to do, even if we sometimes lose sight of why. We have been trained, conditioned, to meet the expectations of a society that sees any type of downtime as a bad thing.

If you’re not doing something 24/7, surely you must be shirking some responsibility or another.

But what if we simply choose to kick back and relax, to spend our time “doing” nothing – and just leave it at that, no explanation needed. Is that really such a bad thing?

When was the last time you slept in, just because?

When did you have an entire day with absolutely nothing planned, and no sense of guilt because of it? Leisure does not equal laziness.

I recently had lunch with a friend, and this very topic came up, in the context of taking a step back and truly evaluating what it is we want to do – in life as a whole, over the next several

months, weeks, days… even five minutes. How much time is spent planning; yet, of that, very little - if any - is devoted to these questions.

We simply forge on, blind to our desires.

It’s funny, when you take a moment, the realization kicks in of how few things we do in our daily lives that truly make us happy.

Sure, there will always be obligations of one sort or another; but we can frame those with other tasks that are slightly more fulfilling and productive over the long term.

The key is figuring out what those are, sooner rather than later.

Then you can pencil them in on the calendar.

Calhoun Celebrates English as a New Language learners and the International Buddy Club transformed Sanford H. Calhoun High School faculty room into an elegant red carpet event celebrating the rich diversity of the school.

Students and faculty enjoyed foods from different countries donated by families and staff members. English as a New Language teachers and International Buddy Club advisers, Heather Glick and Mae Angeles worked

together with students and club members to organize and create activities, decorations and a festive atmosphere of inclusion and cultural awareness.

The event had special visitors from central administration, middle school students, as well as Calhoun’s very own past and present students.

“We are so proud of the work that these students do,” said ENL Department Chair Enrique Montes.

“This is an opportunity for them to celebrate their

heritage and acknowledge that diversity makes our building a very special place.”

In addition to the wonderful food, students participated in a scavenger hunt that encouraged them to converse with other people and find common traits. Students also prepared a video montage highlighting the difficulties that newcomers face and the importance of acceptance and tolerance.

Best in Class The Sanford H. Calhoun High School Wind Ensemble in the BellmoreMerrick Central School District recently returned home from a successful and exciting competition weekend at Disney World in Florida.

The 69-member band took the Best in Class award in the Festival

Disney Concert Band in the Triple A (school size) division.

“This is the first time the wind ensemble has won their division in their seven visits dating back to 2005,” said Band Director Edward Tumminelli. The CCVB (Calhoun Colts Varsity Band) placed second overall, out of 14

high school concert bands (all school sizes).

They performed the highly demanding 15-minute suite from “Mass,” by Leonard Bernstein.

Performance ensembles from the entire country travel to Orlando to compete in the Festival Disney national music competition.

The Long Island alternative transportation advocacy organization, Car-less Long Island, is holding its second annual Long Island “Bike-to-Work Parade” on Saturday, April 29th. Gathering for the parade begins as 9 a.m. at Hofstra University’s North campus.

Mindfulness Journey Lee Road Elementary School in Levittown is embarking on a journey of mindfulness exploration and implementation for both teachers and students.

More than 20 teachers have already completed mindfulness training through the online instructional program with Mindful Schools.

The school has also created a Mindfulness Committee to gain further knowledge of mindfulness practices and introduce components to students.

Principal Anthony Goss explained that researchers believe that mindfulness practice reduces stress and anxiety, improves one’s ability to self-

regulate and increases physical and mental ease and well-being. He said, “The Lee Road school community believes that the path of mindfulness is best received when each individual works on their own personal journey of mindfulness.”

The school has presented workshops to help engage the parent community in understanding the benefits of mindfulness and the research that supports it.

Students are also learning mindfulness techniques in the classroom. In Melanie Anderson’s third-grade class, students engage in mindfulness meditation every day through the focus on breathing, which

brings students into the moment and brings a sense of calm.

Another key component of mindfulness in the school is to teach students “heartfulness,” which encompasses kindness, compassion and empathy for others. Students have learned how to create a mindful body and focus on their breath. Students and teacher are also often spotted taking a walking meditation down the hallways.

Emma Bolivar, a third-grader, believes in mindfulness. “Mindfulness helps me to stay focused on my work and helps us control our emotions,” she said.

Founding Officers Named This year, Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts (LIHSA) established its own chapter of the venerable Tri-M Music Honor Society, which recognizes student musicians for their academic and musical achievements.

Three students from the Bellmore-Merrick CHSD were elected to top offices of the newly-founded chapter.

Jeremy Kaplan, a student pianist at LIHSA, was named President; Jillian Rossi, who is studying vocals and songwriting,

was named Vice-President; and Bailey Rosen, who is studying vocals and audio production, was named Treasurer.

Candidates for membership in Tri-M must meet a rigid set of eligibility requirements in several categories including participation, leadership, achievement, service and character.

Tri-M officers must maintain a grade point average of 85 or higher, dedicate time to school and community service, and demonstrate exemplary character traits, such as

respect, responsibility, dependability, fairness, caring and citizenship.

Founded in 1936, Tri-M is a part of the National Association for Music Education and is the only national honor society for music students. Tri-M’s mission is to transform student musicians into future leaders in music education and advocacy.

Each year, the honor society gives out thousands of dollars in scholarships to students who demonstrate exceptional service and leadership skills.

Amid a sea of doting parents, kindergartners at Bowling Green Elementary School in the East Meadow School District hopped around the school’s front lawn on April 5th wearing

handmade bunny ears and carrying baskets as they collected colorful plastic eggs during a PTAorganized egg hunt.

Each egg contained a prize, including a pencil

eraser, sticker, adhesive tattoo or penny. If a student found a penny in their egg, they won a grand prize of a soccer ball, stuffed animal or coloring book.

Taking Top Honors Students in the East Meadow School District earned top honors in West Islip High School’s seventh annual American Sign Language Idol on March 23rd.

Months of preparation and practice paid off for W.T. Clarke High School senior Alyssa Pancho, who won first place and a $100 cash prize for signing the

comedic song “I’m So Humble” by Lonely Island.

Taking home third were Woodland Middle School eighth-graders Isabella Conti, Saliha Deir, Valerie German and Daniel Scheir, who signed Lin-Manuel Miranda’s “Satisfied.”

Woodland Middle School ASL teacher Barbara Woo was very impressed by her students’ performance.

“I am very proud of them, especially since they competed against high school students and earned third place,” she said.

More than 450 people were in attendance to watch 20 performances from students representing 10 different school districts on Long Island.

Baking to Benefit sale to fundraise. Both parents and students donated confectionary creations, helping the clubs to raise nearly $300.

“This day meant so much to us because our brother, Joe, has autism and it was nice for the school to come together and raise awareness,” explained

brothers John Hopkins and Chris Hopkins. The triplets all attend Merrick Avenue Middle School.

Anyone who made a donation was able to sign their puzzle piece to light up the hallways of Merrick Avenue blue for the month of April.

Parkway’s Got Rhythm Kindergartners at Parkway Elementary School in the East Meadow School District got into the rhythm with the help of dance instructor Diane Gibaldi from Higher Minds Dance.

The visit kicked off the school’s five-week K

Dance program, during which Gibaldi is teaching students basic concepts such as in front of, behind, over and under through dance routines and music.

Practicing in groups, the kindergartners follow the music by applying critical thinking, collaboration

and coordination skills to complete tasks.

The students will culminate the program on May 16th by performing a choreographed dance to Lonestar’s “Let Them Be Little” for parents, faculty and administrators.

Building a Better You Pursuing her Girl Scout Gold Award, Leila Osman, an East Meadow High School junior and former Woodland Middle School student, presented “Brand New, Brand You: Personal Brand Awareness for Teens” to Woodland Middle School sixth- and seventhgraders on April 3rd.

According to the official Girl Scouts website, the Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest and most prestigious award in Girl Scouting. To achieve this recognition, high school students must complete a seven-step project that focuses on a community

issue they care about.

During her presentation to the Woodland students, Leila explained how a personal brand is created through verbal cues, including use of tone and pitch when speaking; the written word, such as texting and posting on social media; and outer appearance, including clothing, style and body language. She explained the influence that brands have on social and school life, college, employment, marriage and other areas of life. She concluded by encouraging the students to be proud of

who they are and make right decisions regarding friends, classmates and the internet.

“When I went to Woodland, I was growing and changing,” said Leila.

“I want these students to be aware of the persona they’re sending out in the world and how powerful the internet can be in damaging their personal brand.”

Following, the Woodland classes completed a personal brand activity, designing an image surrounded by words that represent who they are as individuals.

Bleachers Dedicated Levittown Board of Education trustees and administration gathered at MacArthur High School’s baseball field on April 17th to dedicate the school’s newly constructed bleachers. The project was completed with funds

donated by the Nassau County Legislature through Legislator Dennis Dunne, who was also on hand to celebrate the upgrade.

SCHOLAR ATHLETE - Sara Bey from Merrick is a scholar-athlete double majoring in Chemistry and Mathematics. She has maintained a 3.89 GPA, while contributing to the success of several athletic teams on-campus, including lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, and cross country. Bey has served in multiple leadership positions, including the Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, student government representative, and recently earned the “Her Story” community service award. She has published articles in two academic journals, and presented her work at a national conference. ACCOMPLISHED STUDENT - Nadia Hameed, from North Bellmore, is a Biological Sciences major and serves as the editor of the Honors College art and literature journal, Synesthesia. The bike parade is officially listed as a sister march to the Climate March on Washington that day.

Car-less Long Island (CLLI) was founded in the summer of 2015 as a project of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island. “It seems I have often found myself in conversations with other Long Islanders who would like to be able to get around without a car, but are frustrated by the danger and inconvenience inherent alternative modes of transportation,” says Silberger. She founded CLLI to counter the “nihilistic feeling that this is just how Long Island is – we are a car-culture and that will never change.”

Clarke middle and high school to teach students verbal and nonverbal communication techniques through theater exercises. The months of practice and dedication put in by the East Meadow REACH students will meet the talents of this one-of-akind theater troupe in a performance that is sure to captivate audiences.

The extravaganza will also feature a performance by the FREE Players Drum Corps and students from the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.

Tickets are $10 and can be purchased the night of

the show. A percentage of the proceeds will benefit the East Meadow Special Education Parent Teacher Association. SEPTA will also host a bake sale and a 50/50 raffle the evening of the performance.

“The collaboration between the FREE Players and our students is truly remarkable,” said Superintendent of Schools Leon J. Campo. “The enthusiasm, creativity and passion that the FREE Players have sparked in our children are sure to be seen on stage at this performance.”

Island Trees Public Library On March 27th, the Pequott District held its annual District Pinewood Derby and Cub Carnival.

The only difference this year was that the event’s leader had passed away a few months before the event. So, this year, some district volunteers came together and ran the event in honor of Mike Assande.

Mike had run this derby and carnival for 16 years.

When he started the derby was separate from the carnival. A few years into doing the derby, he decided to bring them together into one day. The derby is a race of all of the winners from each pack in the district.

The Cubs handmade cars are raced down a track. As far as the carnival, Mike

would arrange for Packs to either bring a game or at least run one. In addition, he acquired all of the prizes for the carnival.

The children get to play the games and win really fantastic prizes.

Yearly, former Pack 191 Cubmaster and Troop 656 Scout Master, Mike Moriarity, donates a bicycle to be the grand door prize.

It’s no small task to put this all together. It took an army of volunteers to run what Mike Assande did yearly for these kids. So, in honor of Mike, the kids had a blast racing their cars and playing the carnival games.

If it were not for Mike, his wife, Betsy and sons, Anthony and Patrick, this

event wouldn’t be what it is today. Mike was a valuable part of the Pequott District Committee. He will be sorely missed.

Father’s Day Weekend // June 16th - 18th

Students in every grade at Chatterton School in the Merrick School District worked up a sweat as they learned about the positive effects of exercise on the mind and body during a schoolwide assembly on April 5th.

Organized by the PTA, the “Chatterton Moves” assembly had students up and moving in an hour of exercise routines led by parents and other local volunteers. The program, which was divided into two sessions - the earlier for K-2 students and the later for those in grades 3-6 was designed to instill an enjoyment for exercising every day and to promote a

healthy and active lifestyle.

Chatterton teachers, along with Principal Dana Bermas and Assistant Principal Scott Jackson, joined in the fun.

Starting the sessions, Sensei Don Johnsen and owner Steve Beichert from Best Kids Karate in Bellmore taught students deep breathing techniques, discussed the importance of eating healthy and demonstrated simple selfdefense moves. Kristine Schanstra, an instructor from Pure Pilates Merrick, engaged the students in several aerobic exercises that she teaches in her classes. Dance teacher Christine Cairo from Ella

Marie School of Dance in Hicksville concluded the sessions by leading the students step by step through a hip-hop dance routine.

Addressing the student body, Bermas said, “I’m very impressed with your moves! Hopefully you learned some new ways to be active and will remember to live a healthy lifestyle, because your body and mind will feel better and stronger for it.”

Chatterton extends a special thank-you to the PTA and volunteers for spending the day leading students toward a more active lifestyle.

Spreading Kindness Northside School in Levittown participated in Random Acts of Kindness Week, sponsored by the Peer Leadership Club. The event encouraged students and staff to spread kindness throughout the school community.

At the end of the week, each teacher selected a Kindness Leader from their classroom, who received a

certificate for their notable acts of kindness. Through these efforts students were reminded to be kind each and every day.

The Northside School Peer Leadership Club, facilitated by teacher Ryan Shaw, has 20 fourth- and fifth-grade members who work to help others and make a difference in the school community.

Members meet once a month before school and guide and mentor another 20 students from first and second grade in the areas of literacy, citizenship and/ or community service.

As role models for the younger students, these mentors develop positive relationships with the junior members of the student population.

Why And How To Get A Better Night’s Sleep (NAPSI)—If you ever find yourself lying awake at night, you’re not alone— even if no one else is in the room. That’s because, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than one-quarter of the U.S. population reports occasionally not getting enough sleep, while nearly 10 percent experience chronic insomnia.

Why To Sleep Good sleep, says the CDC, can decrease the risk of sickness and weight

gain. It helps you think more clearly, decreases stress, and leaves you more energetic and productive.

As these qualities improve, relationships tend to improve, too.

Lack of sleep can be a problem on the job, too. A study by the Law Enforcement Survival Institute showed that in a computer simulated shoot/ don’t shoot situation, fatigued police officers were more likely to shoot when not necessary.

What To Do

Many sleep specialists recommend these four steps: 1. Don’t drink caffeine late in the day.

2. Make sure your bedroom is a quiet, dark and relaxing environment; neither too hot nor too cold.

3. Make sure your bed is comfortable and don’t use it for reading, watching TV or listening to music.

4. Take a bath before bedtime.

A very enjoyable and informative meeting was held Monday, April 17th, at the Levittown Museum.

Vice President, Bob Koenig, presented information on all the Levittowns shown on screen and filmed by him. He has traveled all over to gather this information, starting with Levittown, Pennsylvania.

Then on to Willingboro, New Jersey, which was originally Levittown but

they changed the name.

He had memorabilia from Levittown, Puerto Rico. All Levittowns had a Levittown Parkway.

Bob spoke about all the different types and styles of Levitt houses, all different in each town, using different designs and heating systems. He had many items and books of interest to look at. A nice study to see this year being Levittown’s 70th Anniversary year!

The next general meeting is Monday, May 15th, with guest author Richard Panchyk talking about his book, “Hidden Long Island” at 7:30 p.m. at the Levittown Museum, 150 Abbey La.ne in Levittown.

Six Woodland Middle School eighth-graders in the East Meadow School District were recognized for their scientific research and experiments at the LISEF-SSP Broadcom MASTERS Fair on March 23rd, one of three science fairs held by the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair.

Of Woodland’s three student teams, two received honorable mention and one was awarded third place for their work.

According to its website, LISEF promotes three science fairs that allow students to present their work to more than 1,000 judges consisting of leading scientific professionals.

The middle school fair, a partnership between the Society for Science and the Public and Broadcom, encourages sixth-, seventhand eighth-graders to perform an investigation and present their findings to a panel of judges.

During the fair, held at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, more than 200 middle school students presented their research and in-depth experiments in biology, behavioral science, physics, earth science and mathematics to representatives of local universities, scientific institutions and other professionals in their related fields.

The results for Woodland’s students were favorable. Kate Laico and Carly Herman captured second place with their experiment, “Rethink How You Drink.” The team of Caleb Philips and Mitchell Goldberg received honorable mention for their project, “Dive into Aquaponics,” an honor also bestowed upon Tyler Sugrim and Julian Shin for their work, “Hurricane Proof Homes.”

The district congratulates these students on the success of their scientific research and applauds each of their accomplishments.

Team Advances

Sixteen members of the W.T. Clarke High School DECA team in the East Meadow School District have qualified for the International Career Development Conference, to be held in Anaheim, California, from April 26th-29th. They met this qualification after excelling in the New York DECA State Competition.

According to is website, DECA is a nonprofit student organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs from high schools and colleges around the world in marketing, finance, hospitality and management.

Seventy Clarke DECA members attended the New York State regional conference in Rochester on March 8th-10th, where they participated in competitive events aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. At the state competition, 29 Clarke students received top 10 overall winner status, 10 placed in the top 10 for testing, and 12 were recognized in the top 10 role play category. Sixteen of these high-placing DECA members were tapped to advance to the nationallevel competition.

In addition to this prestigious accomplishment, Clarke seniors Priya Aggarwal and James Curran were inducted into the New York DECA Honor Society for demonstrating outstanding leadership and service, holding more than three years of membership in the club, maintaining a business average of 90 or above and an overall average of 85 or above, and having competed at the state level.

The district congratulates the Clarke High School DECA team on their dedication, critical thinking abilities and

thought-provoking work and wishes them much success as they advance to nationals.

Parker Jewish Institute for Health Care and Rehabilitation’s Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands Program connects those caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias with free support services.

Services include in-home consultations; family consultations; support groups; education and training programs on how to care for someone with Alzheimer’s disease; respite scholarships, access to volunteer companions, and memory cafes. All services are free and available to caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias living in Nassau and Suffolk Counties.

Willing Hearts, Helpful

Hands served over 650 Long Island families caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias in 2016.

The initiative, which is funded in part by a multiyear grant from the New York State Department of Health, seeks to serve an additional 500 caregivers in the coming year.

“Long Island is home to approximately 50,000 people who are afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias. Over half of these individuals live with a family member or friend who cares for them,” stated Michael N. Rosenblut, President and CEO of Parker Jewish Institute. “The support services provided by Willing Hearts, Helpful

Hands are vital to reducing caregiver stress and burnout, and helping caregivers allow their loved ones to live at home for as long as possible,” Rosenblut added.

To help ease the stress associated with being a caregiver, Willing Hearts, Helpful Hands provides respite or temporary relief so caregivers can take a break. The program offers a scholarship that covers in-home care, adult day services or overnight stays in an assisted living facility or nursing home.

Caregivers can receive up to 120 hours or a maximum of $1,800 per calendar year.

In addition, caregivers also have access to volunteer companions.

LICADD is committed to recognizing every contributor of $1,000 or more on the tree. Founder’s Day Celebration

A Champagne Brunch was held by The Long Island Federation of Women’s Clubs, Inc. (LIFWC), under the leadership of its president, Frances Rotondo, at The Woodlands of Woodbury to pay tribute to the founders of the many women’s clubs that make up this Federation. This was the second such event in two years and was attended by over 100 members.

President Rotondo read part of a beautiful poem entitled, Phenomenal Women, by Maya Angelou and then introduced the LIFWC Board and Department Heads. Five speakers from various

clubs inspired guests with many interesting and fascinating stories about their club founders.

Some of the original club founders were women who rolled bandages during WWI, who marched for the Women’s Suffragette Movement in the early 1900’s, who organized 80% of the nation’s libraries and who served as hostesses for visiting international guests at the 1939 World’s Fair.

This year’s guest speaker was Donna Scherer, former President of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs – NY 2008-10.

In addition to holding many chairmanships, Ms.

Scherer was also Mayor of the Village of Bellerose.

A magnificent handcrafted Living Legacy Tree now adorns the LICADD Executive Offices in Westbury. The tree was a brainchild of LICADD staff to honor and memorialize those lost and pay tribute to those dedicated to the field of substance abuse and recovery. Championed

by LICADD Board Member, Father Philip Eichner of Kellenberg Memorial High School (KMHS), the tree was designed and created by artisan, Frederick H. Weber of Weber Woods with assistance from the KMHS carpentry department.

The striking Living Legacy Tree was crafted using over fifteen varieties of wood from the United States, Africa and South America, including Cherry, White Oak, Padouk and Purpleheart. The result is a mosaic-like pattern and evokes the feeling of many coming together as one - those who have lost their battle and those who continue the work of recovery and support. The visual message is powerful.

The Living Legacy Tree will feature the tribute: “In special recognition of those

with family caregivers and make weekly visits. They provide a friendly visit; they reminisce, sing songs, play cards and games, and go on walks with their senior.

“Through the program’s respite scholarship and volunteer companions, caregivers are able to engage in activities they had previously enjoyed, but had to put on hold due to their caregiving responsibilities.

Making a Difference Bowlers, sponsors and spectators recently came together at Farmingdale Lanes in Farmingdale to make a difference in the lives of children and adults with special needs, raising more than $22,000 to benefit Adults and Children with Learning and Developmental Disabilities, Inc. (ACLD).

ACLD Foundation’s second annual Bowling For An Enviable Life FUNdraiser brought people supporting ACLD together, with members of the ACLD family joining ACLD partners and the community for some bowling fun while helping ACLD pursue its mission to provide children and adults

with autism, learning and other developmental disabilities with opportunities for pursuing enviable lives, increasing their independence and fostering supportive relationships within the community.

“For the second consecutive year, the people ACLD supports and those who help us pursue our mission enjoyed an incredibly special and rewarding afternoon,” said ACLD Executive Director Robert C. Goldsmith “We are grateful to all the bowlers and sponsors who made this event a success.”

counselor for this honor.

“I’ve always been interested in culinary – baking and pastries are my favorite,” Sophia says with a smile. “Before my dad passed away, we baked together a lot. He was a baker chef at Hofstra University and I always cooked with him.”

Her culinary journey started when she baked a cake for her school’s guidance office and, “they suggested that I apply for the Barry Tech culinary program. I’m so happy I did,” says Sophia who will be attending Johnson and Wales in the fall.

The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating high school seniors. They final winners will be announced by the end of the month.

Military Ball On Saturday, April 1th, Nassau County Legislator Rose Marie Walker joined Legislator Laura Schaefer and many other elected officials, dignitaries, members, family and friends, in celebrating the

91st annual Nassau County Council Military Ball and Testimonial Dinner.

The Military Ball and Testimonial Dinner is a salute to all VFW Members, Auxiliary members and their families.

At the dinner, Nassau County Commander Bill Walden was honored for his hard work and many accomplishments over the past year.

On Saturday morning, April 8th, 75 teams of students from 25 Catholic elementary schools across Long Island met at Holy Trinity High School for the Diocesan STEM Fair.

The students, who had all qualified by being one of the stand-out exhibits in their school’s science fair, came to have their projects judged by a panel of teachers, Holy Trinity Honors Science students and some guest judges.

The student teams competed in two categories, representing grades 5 and 6 and those representing grades 7 and 8. The exhibits were judged by 13 teams of three judges, each with a teacher, student and guest judge.
