Nassau County Executive Laura Curran recently announced that the children of Nassau County will once again be able to send their holiday lists directly to Old St. Nick at the North Pole via a special network of

Santa’s Mailboxes at Nassau County Parks to December 18, 2020.

“Happy to be able to provide a sense of normalcy and some holiday cheer for Nassau’s little ones who may have struggled to

adapt to the many changes and challenges of this past year,” said Nassau County Executive Laura Curran.

“Continuing to enhance our parks and expand their fun and unique seasonal programs is key to making Nassau a better place for people to live, work and play. Encouraging families to take advantage of this safe and magical annual activity.”

All children who send letters to Santa will receive a reply in the form of a “SantaGram” from the North Pole, with Santa’s elves at the Parks Department pitching in to send cheery but noncommittal letters in response to children’s letters. To assure a reply, each letter must contain the child’s name and address, written legibly. There is no postage necessary for the Santa letters. The “SantaGrams” will be sent before the holiday.

All are invited to join us in this magical celebration of the holiday season!

We ask that everyone remain in their vehicles and wear masks while driving through our Winter Wonderland. There will be holiday displays, winter scenes and Santa’s Toy Shop. A giveaway will be provided to each child, first come, first serve; while supplies last.

As the school day began on Nov. 24, student council officers loaded more than 30 boxes and bags filled with food into the back of an SUV outside of Berner Middle School in the Massapequa School District. The club held its annual Thanksgiving food drive to benefit the parish outreach center at St. Rose

of Lima Church.

Berner students and staff were asked to donate nonperishable goods such as canned vegetables, cereal, gravy, pasta, rice and more.

Collection boxes were placed at the entrances to the school throughout the weeklong food drive.

Led by advisers Denise

Robertson and Kristen Meoli, students sorted and packed the donations, which Ms. Meoli then delivered to the church.

In addition to food, the student council also collected monetary donations and supermarket gift cards, so the outreach center could help families purchase fresh food.

ROCKY is an approximately 12-14 year old male German Shepherd mix. Sadly, Rocky and his two siblings (Cali and Suzie) found themselves orphaned when their dad passed away. This sweet old fella deserves the chance to live out his days in a warm home with a loving family. Rocky has significant arthritis and hearing loss. While Rocky does get along with his siblings, he should be the only pet in the house, if adopted without them. He adores being the object of attention and being around people. We would love to see Rocky adopted or in a permanent foster home in time for the holidays.
