Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola invite residents to participate in the Town of Oyster Bay’s Annual Walk for Autism, held to benefit the Advantage Care Health Center’s Fay J. Linder Center for Autism & Developmental Disabilities. The Walk, now in its 12th year, will take place on Saturday, September 21st, at John

Long Island’s premier car show will take place on Sunday, September 22nd from 11am to 4pm at TOBAY Beach (rain date October 13th). Car Show Long Island’s 2019 TOBAY BEACH Fall Classic will feature hundreds of automobiles, trucks, military vehicles, and emergency service vehicles. A live concert performed by The Mystic will take place during the day, followed by trophy presentations. The event is free for spectators.

Supervisor Saladino stated, “Whether you’re a proud classic car owner or you want to see the best cars in the region, the Car Show Long Island is the place to be! This

the United States, and the earlier it is diagnosed the greater the ability to help with intervention services.”

Registration for the event begins at 10 a.m., with the walk commencing at 11 a.m. A post-walk tailgate party is also held rain or shine.

Councilman Labriola said, “We are pleased to once again host this event to benefit the Fay J.

“Car Show Long Island” free family-fun event is a perfect way to spend the day, all with the beautiful backdrop of TOBAY Beach.

Spectators can check out cool cars, vendors, exhibits and enjoy live music while surrounded

by Long Island’s best classic, muscle, antique and exotic cars.”

Trophies will be awarded in 10 categories including best-of-the-best, and children will have a say when deeming which rides are their favorites in the Kids’ Choice Award.

The Twilight Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and enrich the lives of seniors through intergenerational Twilight Wish celebrations.

Since the foundation’s founding in 2003, their goal has been to make the world a nicer place to age, one Twilight Wish at a time. When a Twilight Wish is granted, a senior is recognized for all that they have done throughout their lives and is shown that they are appreciated and valued.

This organization truly makes a difference in the lives of seniors nationwide.

Often the elderly gets overlooked or they simply can’t seem to achieve their goals on their own. This is where Twilight Wish steps in.

Although their headquarters are located in Pennsylvania, the foundation has chapters located around the nation. James Ciervo, who devoted much of his life to helping seniors, created their Long Island Chapter 15 years ago. His career was in the senior health care industry for many years and he continues to help seniors through the Twilight Wish Foundation today.

The process of applying to be a wish recipient is fairly simple. You can visit their website at www.twilightwish.org and click on the “Wishes” tab followed by “Request A Twilight Wish”. From here you can start the process. Applications can be submitted for yourself or on behalf of someone else.

The recipient of the wish must be 65 years of age or older (or a permanent resident of an eldercare facility), a legal US citizen, have an annual income of less than 200% of current federal government published poverty level income, or be unable to grant your own wish (not including financial reasons), have a history of giving back to others, be cognitively and physically capable of communicating and

experiencing the wish, and may be able to provide physician documentation when requested.

The foundation has a committee that meets on a monthly basis to review new applications and they determine the eligibility of the applicants and wish requests. If approved, the foundation will grant the wish as funding and resources become available (if they are not already available).

Jackie, a local Long Islander, was nominated to be a wish recipient by her friend at work. Jackie works at Walmart and would walk to work and assist residents at her local nursing home while she wasn’t working. Her friends wanted to make it easier for her to get around. After the wish was received, James Ciervo and Barbara Ransom of the Greater Port Jefferson Chamber of Commerce helped get Jackie a beautiful bicycle. They brought the bicycle to her workplace and the smile on her face was ear to ear!

A Successful Day One

ANTI-VAPING GROUP - Congressman Pete King (R-Seaford) meets with mothers and children representatives of Parents Against Vaping & E-Cigarettes, who are leaders in the effort to protect young people from the Vaping epidemic. Congressman King pledged his support for their efforts and is cosponsoring “The Reversing the Youth Tobacco Epidemic Act” which is a step forward in the campaign against the Vaping industry.

“Don’t worry, you’ve still got some time,” East Lake Elementary School Principal Thomas McKillop said to parents, as he pointed to a chalk message on the sidewalk welcoming the Class of 2032. Mr. McKillop greeted the incoming students on Sept. 6, the first day for all kindergarten students in the Massapequa School District, while

reminding their families that there are many years to enjoy before high school graduation.

Many kindergartners arrived with their parents for first-day photos and one more hug before beginning school. Others came by bus, where they were greeted by teachers and students from the Safety Patrol to direct them to their classrooms,

or were guided by an older sibling.

This year, the district welcomed more than 510 kindergartners at the six elementary schools.

The students walked into classrooms with shiny floors, colorful bulletin boards and countless numbers of books, prepared for an exciting learning adventure.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino today announced that the Department of Community and Youth

Services, Cultural and Performing Arts Division (CAPA) will be once again offering exciting cultural enrichment programs

for the fall 2019 season, and registration for all applications is now open.

“I am pleased to announce that the Town’s

Cultural Enrichment Program will return once again this fall, as these enrichment programs offer residents the opportunity to develop a new skill while having fun in the process,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Whether you’re an emerging artist or writer looking to sharpen your skills or a resident looking for a new hobby, these classes offer a wonderful opportunity to broaden your horizons, and provide not only education but enjoyment as well.”

All of the classes will be held at the SyossetWoodbury Community Center, located at 7800 Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, except for the Astrology and Meditation and Spiritual Awakening workshops, which will be held at North Massapequa Community Center, 214 N. Albany Avenue in Massapequa. Classes fill up quickly and are available on a first come, first served basis.
