Town Partners With DogFest Long Island To Benefit Canine Companions
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Tom Hand announce that the Town will host DogFest Long Island on Saturday, September 23rd benefit Canine Companions. The event, being held at Marjorie Post Park in Massapequa, runs from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
“September is National Service Dog Month, and what better way to celebrate than to bring your canine friends to a fun event for a great cause,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We
are pleased to once again join with Canine Companions to offer DogFest visitors a fun day of games, inspiring speakers, activities for kids, service dog demonstrations and more.”
There is no fee to participate, however residents are invited to fundraise and help spread the word about the event by visiting www. canine.org/dogfestlongisland. All monies raised benefit Canine Companions, a nonprofit who works to place expertly-trained service

dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities, free of charge. Their mission is to help clients and their service dogs live with greater independence, and more than 400 people are currently waiting for their new canine partners.
“We invite all residents to participate in this fun event while making a positive difference in the lives of others,” said Councilman Hand. “Thanks to events like DogFest, Canine Companions is able to continue the great work they do to assist the disabled community people with disabilities”
Residents are invited to bring well-socialized dogs, provided they are friendly with other dogs and people, comfortable in crowds and fully vaccinated. All dogs must be kept on leash at all times (no longer than six feet). For more information, please visit www.canine.org.

Town To Host 15th Walk Benefiting Advantage Care Health’s Center For Autism & Developmental Disabilities
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Laura Maier invite residents to participate in the Town of Oyster Bay’s 15th Annual “Walk for Autism” at Burns Park in Massapequa on Saturday, September 23rd. The walk will benefit Advantage Care Health Center’s Fay J. Lindner Center for Autism & Developmental Disabilities, one of the leading treatment and outpatient assessment programs for people with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Registration for the event begins at 10 a.m., with the walk commencing at 11 a.m. and a tailgate party immediately following. The registration fee is $10 for individuals and $25 for families. All registrants will receive entrance to the post-walk tailgate party with refreshments and free T-shirts while supplies last.
Councilwoman Maier added, “It is estimated that 1 in every 54 children in the United States are affected by Autism, and early diagnosis
leads to an increased ability to help through intervention services. That’s why this walk is so important, as it increases both education and awareness while bringing our community together.”

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and members of the Town Board recently announced more than a half million dollars in grant funding to help support local Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations that were negatively impacted by the COVID pandemic. The funding, which will be distributed to up to 12 chambers of commerce and business associations through the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce, is being provided through the American Rescue Plan Act and at no cost to Town taxpayers. The Farmingdale and Massapequa Chambers of Commerce were the first to receive the funding from the Town.
“We recognize the crucial role that local Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations play in
supporting small businesses, fostering commerce and establishing connections with potential customers. Unfortunately, so many of these organizations were significantly impacted by the COVID pandemic, leading to financial hardships,” said Supervisor Saladino.
“As part of the Town’s commitment to supporting our local communities and aiding in the economic recovery of our Town, we are pleased to offer this grant opportunity.”
Grant funding will be administered by the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce to chambers and business associations in the Town of Oyster Bay. Entities are eligible to receive up to $50,000, which can be used for a variety of purposes, including operations and maintenance expenses and community investments.
Additionally, individual businesses and non-profits who have not yet applied for the Town’s $5,000 ‘Oyster Bay Forward’ grant program can still receive funding. The program is available to businesses that employ up to 50 full-time equivalent W-2 employees as well as sole proprietors. American Heart Association’s Long Island Heart Walk Returns September 10
This year the Long Island Heart Walk will take place on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at Jones Beach, Field
5. The Long Island Heart Walk supports a movement to get America walking to live longer, heart-healthy lives. Registration begins at 8:30am and the walk is scheduled to start at 9:30am.
The American Heart Walk is the American Heart Association’s premiere walking and fund-raising event that takes place in over 300 cities every
year. The event focuses on preventing heart disease and stroke by raising money to support heart research and heart healthy lifestyle programming. This year’s Heart Walk is sponsored by Life is Why sponsor Mount Sinai South Nassau.

The National External Diploma Program offers adults 21 and over, the opportunity to receive credit for their life experiences, and earn a high school equivalency diploma without the challenge of taking lengthy timed examinations. NEDP, is a competency based program for students who are unable to attend classes or who prefer to work at home. Successful
candidates for NEDP include former ESL students, students who have been out of school for prolonged periods of time, or students who fare better without the structure of tests.
