RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY FOR CAFE BELLA OF MASSAPEQUA PARK

The Massapequa Chamber of Commerce recently held a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Cafe Bella of Massapequa Park. Assemblyman Michael Durso (Massapequa Park) recently hosted his 2nd Annual free veterans’ pancake breakfast and resource fair honoring area veterans and active military members for their service and sacrifice.

Along with a free breakfast, the event brought together numerous government agencies and local organizations that offer support and services to the veteran community including Nassau County Vet Center, Wounded Warrior Project, Long Island State Veterans Home, New York State Parks and Recreation, Suffolk County Veterans Service Agency, New York State Department of Veterans’ Affairs, Vets to Vollies, VetDogs, and so many more.

“It was a privilege to welcome veterans from the 9th Assembly district to our 2nd annual pancake and resource fair,” said New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso. “We owe our veterans much gratitude

Overdose Awareness Day

Candlelight Ceremony August 31st

In recognition of National Overdose Awareness Day, Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board will partner with Drug Free Long Island, along with the Village of Massapequa Park and Thomas’s Hope Foundation, to host an Overdose Awareness Memorial Service on Thursday, August 31st at 6:30pm at Brady Park in

Massapequa Park. Resource tables will be available for families from 6:30pm – 8pm, and a 7:15pm memorial service will be held in memory of those who have lost friends and family to overdose. Following the memorial service, a candlelight vigil walk will take place from Brady Park to Village Square.

Supervisor Saladino stated,

“It is so important that we gather to raise awareness of the deadly effects of heroin and remember our loved ones who lost their lives to the opioid epidemic. Residents are invited to bring a photo of their loved one to the ceremony.”

Throughout the spring more than 1,000 boys and girls ages 4 and up played on a Massapequa International team this year – an all-time high! That’s more than 1,000 children staying active, making lifelong friends and learning to love the game that also teaches the benefits of hard work, team building, resiliency and sportsmanship.

And while we recognize all 1,000+ athletes for their love of the game and celebrate all the championship wins, we would be remiss if we did not recognize everyone in the community who has contributed to making all of this possible. The Massapequa International Little League Board of Directors would like to thank the dozens of volunteers who coach the teams, maintain the fields and contribute to the overall success of the program.

Free Animal Adoption Month This September At Town Animal Shelter

Town Clerk Richard LaMarca announces that the Town’s Animal Shelter will waive adoption fees throughout the month of September.

Walsh Announces Fall 2023 Toddler Arts & Crafts Program

Oyster Bay Town

Councilwoman Vicki Walsh announced that the popular Toddler Arts & Crafts Program will be offered again this Fall, beginning on October 10th. This 6-week program offers classes at the Town’s Ice Skating Center Community Room in Bethpage and at the Hicksville Athletic Center, and is open to children ages 2 through 4.

“The Town’s Toddler Arts & Crafts Program is a wonderful way to help support your toddler’s development through nurturing their artistic expression,” said Councilwoman Walsh. “Classes will certainly fill up quickly as this program offers children an opportunity to meet others their age and explore their creativity. Highlights of the program include holiday crafts and

ceramics.”

The Toddler Arts & Crafts Program begins October 10th and is 6 weeks in duration. Residents who sign their toddler up for the program must choose one class per week, per child. Classes will take place on:

Tuesdays at 10:00 am for two-year-olds, and 11:00 am for three-and-four-year-olds at the Hicksville Athletic Center in Hicksville; Wednesdays at 10:00 am for two-year-olds, and 11:00 am for three-and-fouryear-olds at the Ice Skating Center Community Room in Bethpage; and

Thursdays at 10:00 am for two-year-olds, and 11:00 am for three-and-fouryear-olds at the Ice Skating Center Community Room in Bethpage.

Registration will take place ONLINE through the

Parks Portal available at oysterbaytown.com/portal beginning on September 6th at 9:00 am. Space is limited- first come, first serve. Registration will close when the program reaches full capacity.

Each class is approximately 45 minutes. Cost of the program is $35 per child who is a Town resident, and $45 per child whose care giver is a Town resident but not the child. The child’s birth certificate and a tax or utility bill will be required to validate age and proof of residency. A guardian must be present during the class. A smock and supplies will be provided with enrollment.

The Toddler Arts & Crafts Program is run by the Town’s Parks Department, Recreation Division. For information, call (516) 7977945.

September, the shelter will waive the general adoption fees of $80 per dog and $84 per cat. All usual adoption services will be provided, including the spaying or neutering of the animal, vaccination and microchipping. Residents interested in viewing the animals available for adoption can call the shelter to make an appointment, or visit www.oysterbaytown. com.

“In addition to free adoption month, the Town will be hosting a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic at the Animal Shelter on September 9th from 10 am

to 2 pm. No reservations are necessary,” said Clerk LaMarca. Microchip services will also be available for a $25 fee. “If a pet is ever lost, they can be taken to a vet clinic or animal shelter where they will be scanned for a microchip ID and returned to their rightful owner.”

The Town of Oyster Bay Animal Shelter is located at 150 Miller Place in Syosset. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Residents interested in visiting the shelter can call to make an appointment. To view photos of some of the animals available for adoption, visit

Once dogs reach four months of age, owners are required to obtain an annual dog license and verification tag. The general license fee is $15 for an unneutered or unspayed dog and $10 for a neutered or spayed dog. There is no fee for licensing a guide dog, hearing dog, service dog, war dog, detection dog or police dog. Fees for senior citizens are $5. Saladino Extends Beach Weekends At TOBAY Through September 17th

TOBAY Beach To Remain Open To Swimming 9-5 With Lifeguards On Duty For Free After Labor Day

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that the Town will help residents hold on to summer a little while longer by extended hours at TOBAY Beach for two additional weekends after Labor Day – Saturday & Sunday,

September 9th and 10th, as well as 16th and 17th.

TOBAY will stay open free of charge those two extra weekends with lifeguards on duty from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“To help our residents enjoy their summers a little longer we will once again

be extending summer fun at TOBAY, free of charge, for two additional weekends this year,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We invite all our residents and their families to come out and enjoy this beautiful facility, take in some nice weather and

savor the last of the summer season.”

Residents visiting TOBAY Beach on Sunday, September 10th, can also enjoy the Town’s free, family fun Waterfront Festival at TOBAY Marina, presented by Optimum. In addition to a
