Quickstrike Patriots FC NY Girls Soccer Team

Parents and players of the Quickstrike Patriots FC NY girl’s soccer team returned to NY late Sunday night, July 23, after a whirlwind week of hectic travel, focused training, and an intense 5 days of competition. They bring back a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP trophy, medals, and most importantly hearts and minds full of moments on and off the field that they will treasure for the rest of their lives.

Head Coach Phil Bannister, also men’s coach at Fordham University as well as for FC Somers, along with Assistant Coach and founder Mike Friedlander are still wondering if this was a dream that had finally become reality. Bannister is no stranger to the national tournament held each summer in Orlando and has taken his teams in the previous years to this very competition but it was not until his 7th attempt in yesterday’s final match that he could proudly lift high the championship trophy with his Quickstrike Patriots U18 Girls as they celebrated a hard earned title.

Battling canceled flights, delays, and layovers along with extreme heat that the 22-player roster had to adapt to, they did not quit, deflate, or make excuses. Rather, the team rallied. Although the booked flights

were canceled, parents and coaches scrambled to book alternative flights from multiple airports eventually arriving in Orlando late Monday (and unfortunately missing the prized opening ceremonies). The team, composed of top players from the surrounding

Hudson Valley eventually arrived weary and haggard, yet rallied together, dug their heels in, executed the plan, and accomplished the goals they had set the moment they learned they were headed to compete in Nationals back in May. They played teams from Ohio,

Louisiana, and Missouri in the first round of play. They played a team from Nebraska in the semi-final and then the Middle Country Soccer Club from Long Island in the final championship and won the final 2-0!

Long Islanders can drop the food donations into the exhibit’s Long Island Cares collection bins during the event. This food drive aims to alleviate food insecurity, specifically for children who may not have access to school meals during the summer break. experiences the sights and sounds of this incredible Van Gogh experience, they will come away feeling very good that they were able to help their neighbors in need.”

To donate to Long Island Cares, ensure that all non-perishable items are unexpired and unopened. Acceptable donations include canned soups, tuna, vegetables, fruit, pasta packages, crackers, juice boxes, canned proteins, juice bottles, cereals, and granola bars. We welcome the generosity of our visitors and ask that they consider a donation of at least two or more items.

Beyond Van Gogh: The Immersive Experience, produced by Paquin Entertainment Group, is on Long Island for a limited engagement. This immersive experience features more than 300 of Vincent Van Gogh’s

iconic artworks and takes the art lover into a threedimensional world that exhilarates the senses.

To help get the food drive started, King Kullen, ShopRite of Bay Shore and ShopRite of Massapequa

are each donating 250 pounds of food to help fill the collection bins that will be on site for four weeks.

The girls competed in last year’s competition for the first time however did not advance past the first round of play. While the winning moment may still feel a bit surreal to this group of young women studentathletes, the path to get to this point was very real. The girls boast an ENY New York State Cup Championship won this past June, an Eastern Regional Championship, and now a US Youth Soccer (USYS) National Championship. The team ends its run with this enormous moment together. Half of the team recently graduated and will be heading off to college next month, many of whom will continue their soccer careers at the collegiate level. Tears of joy were shed as they boarded the plane back home to NY,

but it was also a bittersweet ending as the girls played their last match together. Girls from Irvington (State Champions), along with Hastings on Hudson, Valhalla, Rockland, Somers, Yorktown, Ardsley, Harrison, Eastchester, Bronxville, Long Island, and Washington Township, NJ vow to treasure their friendships and this incredible moment along with all the highs and lows they’ve been through together the last several years. Within the days,

months, and years of competing, training, goalsetting, and committing to arduous physical soccer training and extensive travel a bond has formed and a family was created and grew over time. Whether witnessing the success of this team close up or from afar, the love, passion, and dedication this team has for soccer and for one another is undeniable with or without the shiny medal, trophy, and tangible hardware they so proudly carry home with them.
