with free performances at local libraries throughout the Town.

“The Distinguished Artists Concert Series provides free musical

Now Hiring: Summer Jobs Available

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that there are still openings for summer employment in the Town of Oyster Bay. Positions are available for the 2023 Summer Recreation Program, as well as the Youth Tennis Program. Those interested must be 16 years of age or older to apply.

“These great summer jobs are ideal for community

teens ages 16 or older who are looking to build their resume,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Our summer recreation counselors and tennis assistants have a lot of fun while receiving handson experience and making a difference in the lives of others.”

The Summer Recreation Program runs for six weeks, from July 5th through August 11th. Applicants

must be available for the duration of the program.

Sessions are Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Program participants take part in trips, tournaments, shows and athletic events, including the TOBAY Games, making being a counselor a great first job for many residents.

Tennis Assistants must be 16+, have at least 1- 2 years of experience participating

on a Tennis team, and be available for the duration of the program, which also runs from June 26th until August 11th. Tennis runs Monday through Thursday, between the hours of 3:45 p.m. and 8 p.m.

12-Year-Old Williamsport Baseball Team Honored

Massapequa Artist To Be Featured In Selective Show

Art has long been a passion for Massapequa High School senior Lily DiBenedetto. Her hard work recently paid off, as one of her pieces was selected for an upcoming show, Long Island’s Best: Young Artists at the Heckscher Museum. The annual juried exhibition runs from April 29 to June 4. It will feature artwork from 91 students in Nassau and Suffolk counties that was completed during the 2022-23 school year. Lily is Massapequa’s first studentartist ever selected to this show, which had more than 500 applicants this year. Her featured piece is a self-portrait that was created digitally using Krita. It was a project for her Advanced Placement art class, and was also featured in this year’s All-County art show, hosted

by the Nassau County Art Supervisors Association.

Earlier this year, students from the AP art class visited the Heckscher Museum, where they saw the work of Long Island artists. Teacher Paul Leone tasked each student with creating an original piece that was inspired by artwork they saw in the museum. Lily said an unfinished self-portrait was the inspiration for her piece that will soon hang at Heckscher.

“I wasn’t expecting to be selected, so it was definitely surprising,” she said. “It’s very encouraging, because I plan on continuing with art in college.”

In the fall, Lily will attend SUNY New Paltz to pursue her dream of becoming an art teacher. At Massapequa High School, she has

enrolled in numerous art courses including Computer Art and Drawing and Painting levels 1 and 2, as well as an Introduction to Photoshop technology class.

Lily said Massapequa’s art program has helped her hone her skills and broaden her horizons. Her teachers have also turned her on to other art exploration opportunities, such as courses through Adelphi University’s pre-college program.

“Lily is phenomenally talented,” Mr. Leone said. “Everything she does, she excels at. She’s so dedicated and hard-working, and I’m so proud of her.”

She will be invited to an opening reception for the artists on April 29, which will be followed by an awards presentation.

Massapequa Schools Conducting Breakfast Program Survey

The Massapequa School District will be conducting a survey of parents of students in kindergarten through fifth grade who attend the district’s elementary schools to determine if there is any interest in a school breakfast program.

If insufficient interest is determined, an exemption to participate in this program will be requested by the board of education to the New York State Education Department.

United States Air Force Thunderbirds To Headline 19th Annual

Bethpage Air Show At Jones Beach Taking Place May 27-28, 2023

Bethpage Federal Credit Union, New York State’s largest credit union, and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, are pleased to announce that the United States Air Force Thunderbirds will headline the 19th Annual Bethpage Air Show at Jones Beach taking place on Saturday, May 27, 2023 and Sunday, May 28, 2023. This will be the demonstration

team’s 9th performance at the Bethpage Air Show.

It was announced at the annual International Council of Air Shows (ICAS) Convention yesterday that the United States Army Golden Knights Parachute Team and the United States Marine Corps F35B Lighting II will be performing, along with the world famous Skytpers, Long Island’s David Windmiller and Mike Goulian, North

America’s most decorated aerobatic pilot.

“Last year, we were very grateful that the Thunderbirds changed their schedule to perform for us on Memorial Day, after the Saturday and Sunday weekend shows were rained out,” said George Gorman, Regional Director, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. “Suffice to say, we couldn’t be

happier to welcome the team back to Long Island for our 2023 show!”
