Hundreds Of Vehicles To Participate, Trophy Presentation, Free Concert & Free Admission For Spectators

Long Island’s largest and most premier car show experience returns to TOBAY Beach on Sunday, April 30th, from 11am to 4pm. “Car Show Long Island” features hundreds of automobiles, trucks, military vehicles, and emergency service vehicles. A live concert performed by That 70’s Band will take place during the day, followed by trophy presentations. The event is free for spectators.

Long Island (RTLI) is a nonprofit organization, headquartered in Farmingdale, serving Nassau County and most of Su olk County. As an a liate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together, their mission is repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives.

To accomplish their vision of safe and healthy homes for everyone, they provide free essential home safety repairs and modifications for economicallydisadvantaged homeowners, whether they are older adults, veterans, families or persons with a disability or limited mobility.

Security and comfort should come to mind when we think of home...but what if your home didn’t make you feel that way? Maybe there’s no heat or hot water for your family, or your doors don’t lock so you prop a chair under the doorknob each night. When you’re living on a fixed or low income, making repairs or modifications is typically just a wish, not a reality. Homeowners know that taking care of small problems today can help avert larger, more costly problems tomorrow and this is where Rebuilding Together Long Island can come into play and help out! For more than 30 years, RTLI has focused on improving the living conditions of our neighbors and fulfilling those dreams of a safe, warm and accessible home.

Primarily a volunteer organization, they are neighbors helping neighbors and there is never a charge. From minor to sometimes major repairs, they improve the safety, health and well-being of every household. From handyman type repairs to modifications for our aging population and those with physical limitations, they’re ready to lend a hand.

Recent studies have shown that for people 65 and older, falls account for approximately 60 percent of all injury-related emergency department visits and over 50 percent of injuryrelated deaths annually. Also, up to 80 percent of falls in the home occur in the bathroom. RTLI can install grab bars and ADA height toilets, widens doorways where possible and can even have bathtubs converted to walk-in showers. Wheelchair ramps are one of their most requested modifications and can be constructed in two days. So how can you help?

•If you know someone who may benefit from their services, have them call the RTLI o ce at 631.777.7894, Monday – Friday, to see if they qualify for the free program.

•Join the RTLI team! Volunteers can sign up at rebuildingtogetherli.org/ volunteer-today. Currently they are looking for individuals who are fluent in Spanish and for an o ce person, particularly if they are familiar with Salesforce. Additionally, if you are handy with tools, the Nassau and Su olk crew teams are always looking for more help.

•Donate at rebuildingtogetherli. org. RTLI relies on the donations of our neighbors, some grants and corporate sponsorships, as they do not receive any government funding.

•RTLI encourages local business to get involved and sponsor a project. The organization can find the right project for your business to sponsor and you can then promote your generosity on social media to show your commitment to improving the health and safety of someone in need locally.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Clerk Richard LaMarca announced that the Town will host a “Spring into Action” Collection Drive in support of the Northport VA. During the month of April, residents are invited to donate toiletries and clothing.

“From hosting veteran appreciation events to recognizing their service with Hometown Heroes Banners in our parks, the Town of Oyster Bay is committed to honoring veterans for their service to our nation,” Supervisor Saladino said. “Please join this mission to help bring the comforts of home to veterans living at the Northport VA Hospital

by making a donation to our collection drive during the month of April.”

Most needed items include toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, combs, unscented deodorant, body wash, unscented lotion, nail clippers, and shampoo), clothing (men’s underwear size 2XL & 3XL, men’s sweat suits size 2XL & 3XL, socks, flip flops, pajamas, and scarves), and entertainment (magazines, movies, and CDs, especially Greatest Hits of the ‘50s & ‘60s).

“When I learned that the Northport VA has a “Wish List” of items their veterans need, I knew Supervisor Saladino and the Town Board would spring into action with me

to help ensure these needs are met,” Clerk LaMarca said. “I thank them for partnering with me to organize this critical initiative, and I thank the residents of our wonderful Town in advance for their generosity and support of our Veterans.”

The Town’s Collection Drive will run through the month of April. Collection Bins will be available on weekdays from 9:00am to 4:45pm at Town Hall North (54 Audrey Ave, Oyster Bay), Town Hall South (977 Hicksville Road, Massapequa), and the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center (1001 Stewart Ave, Bethpage). MTAC aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating residents about the potential for abuse of medications.

Instructions for drug take back: keep all medications in original

containers; block out name for anonymity - do not cross out medication information. Please note: syringes & sharps WILL be accepted in collaboration with Community Action for Social Justice (CASJ) . Unable to attend?

Residents can drop off unused or expired meds (no liquids or ointments) any time/day at any Nassau County Police Department Precinct.

Free Musical Performances At Local Libraries For April And May

Oyster Bay Town

Councilwoman Laura Maier announced that the Town Distinguished Artists Concert Series will continue through May 2023 with free performances at local libraries throughout the Town.

“The Distinguished Artists Concert Series provides free musical and dance

programs for the enjoyment of our residents,” said Councilwoman Maier. “I encourage residents to take advantage of these wonderful performances offered by the Town for free at local libraries.”

Scheduled performances for April and May include: Rongaloy on Sunday, April

23, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Hicksville Public Library

– Performing “Music is Universal”.

Matt Zale on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2:30 pm at the Farmingdale Public Library

– Songs from The Beatles, Dave Clark Five, Roy Orbison, Herman’s Hermits, and more!

Gino DiNapoli on Sunday,

May 7, 2023 at 2:30 pm at the Farmingdale Public Library

– Performing Italian and American songs.

The Chamlins on Sunday, May 21, 2023 at 2:00 pm at the Hicksville Public Library –Performing “Fine and Dandy: The Ladies of Tin Pan Alley”.
