Mr. Carl R. Reinhard, a resident of Huntington Station, LI, died January 21, 2020 at Hospice Inn, Melville, LI. He was 59 Years old. Mr. Reinhard was born on June 25, 1960 in Southampton, LI to Carl and Marilyn (Lake) Reinhard. He was employed by West Amity Auto Part, Massapequa, LI, as a machinist.

Survivors include his wife, Erica, his son Carl, Jr., his sister Carol Lynn Reinhard, his brother Robert Reinhard and his nieces and nephews Tom, Pete, Tim and Becky Reinhard. The Reverend David W. Anglin conducted a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday, January 25, 2020. Cremation was private. Arrangements were under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Inc., Amityville, New York.

As Valentine’s Day approaches we reach out to those we love to express our feelings for people who are important to us, be it family, friends, colleagues, and yes even pets. We show our expressions of love through gestures of dinners, cards, candy, because we care about people who matter to us. As a veteran, business woman, doctor and journalist I have worked hard to educate the public on disease prevention. However, I now have a new cause as the Mayoral candidate for Massapequa Park which is to educate the public on safety in your own home. My illusion of safety at home was shattered October 28, 2019 at 1:22 am when a car pulled up across the street from my home and two men with semiautomatic guns in 28 seconds blasted my innocent neighbor’s home with 24 bullets narrowly missing them as they lay sleeping on the first floor.

The police came to my home at 2 am looking for help because my cameras recorded everything as did my neighbors. The cameras were instrumental in locating some of the gang members. As I visited with neighbors I realized how so many just across Sunrise Highway from the village hall were unaware of the dangers that terrorized our community that horrible night, and do very little to safeguard their home and loved ones. This idyllic tree lined community now has become a haven for drug dealing, robberies, vandalism, and a dumping ground for dead bodies in our beautiful preserve by MS 13, yet some people still take no precautions at safeguarding their own homes. I have heard all the excuses, well I have a dog he will protect me. I have a gun, that’s great but what happens when you are at work and your family is home alone? I have an alarm system, wonderful can it identify who is lurking around your backyard? I am not an alarmist but a realist trying to keep you safe and telling you the truth. The best thing you can do is get cameras installed. They have come down in price, Home Depot, Walmart, on line you can find cameras cheaply now and even the Ring systems are amazing with the quality and sound alerting you when someone is near your home. Install flood lights around your property and motion detection lights especially corner houses which are targets for crime because of the two street accessibility. Keep your doors and windows locked even if you are home and don’t open your doors to strangers. Don’t leave your keys in the door, I have seen this several times. Even though you have a glass door in front of your main door you can forget the keys are in there and now you have just given the bad guys an open invitation. Lock your car doors and windows at all times. Cars are being broken into regularly that are left unlocked as thieves are looking for cash and valuables. If you have fences with gates around your property, lock them with a combination lock. The night of the shooting the kid who did the drug deal ran into my neighbor’s yard through an unlocked gate. The gang members thought he lived there and riddled the house with bullets. Join up with a community watch group and if you see something suspicious let your neighbors know and notify the police. These are simple fixes to securing your home which is your castle.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and members of the Town Board proudly welcomed members of the 2019 Class III Long Island Champion Plainedge High School Football Team, who were also recipients of the prestigious Rutgers Cup after their fantastic season.

This season, Plainedge High School’s Football Team brought home the school’s first Long Island Championship, and compiled a perfect 12-0 record for the season.

Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson today announced that residents looking for fun activities to fill their week of winter recess need look no further than the Town’s Ice Skating Rinks – outdoors at Marjorie Post and Syosset-Woodbury Parks and indoors at the Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage.

Beginning Sunday, February 16th, and lasting through Friday, February 21st, the Town’s three rinks will be offering special public session schedules throughout Presidents’ week, providing kids who are off school a fun-filled wintertime activity.

“During Presidents’ week when most schools are closed, the Town’s ice rinks will be open and

offering a special modified schedule with public sessions to accommodate families who are looking to enjoy ice time with their children,” said Councilwoman Johnson.

“I encourage anyone who enjoys ice skating and is off from school or work during Presidents’ week to take advantage of these special public sessions, and enjoy a staycation right in their own backyards!”

The outdoor ice rinks are located at Marjorie Post Park, Unqua and Merrick Roads in Massapequa, and at Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, 7900 Jericho Tpke in Woodbury.

The Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center is located within Bethpage Community Park at 1001 Stewart Avenue, in Bethpage. Modified public

Try-Hockey-for-Free Program Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board recently announced that the Town of Oyster Bay, in conjunction with the National Hockey League’s New York Rangers, will host a special “Try-Hockeyfor-Free Program” on Sunday, February 15th, from 9am to 11:30am, at the state-of-the-art Town of Oyster Bay Ice Skating Center in Bethpage.

The event will allow children, ages 5 through 9, a unique opportunity to explore the sport of ice hockey. In addition, time will be set aside for photo opportunities and autographs.

“This is a great NHL program that provides local children the opportunity to explore the exciting sport of ice hockey under the watchful eye of professional,” said Supervisor Saladino.

“This free session provides parents the opportunity to assess if the sport of ice hockey is a good fit for their child, without making an initial financial

commitment.”

Tr y - H o c k e y - f o r- F r e e is designed for children with little or no prior skating experience. New York Rangers alumni and Junior Rangers staff will lead the one-day session, which includes free skate rentals and loaner equipment, a free Rangers hockey stick for children to take home and a postskate meet-and-greet with former professional hockey players. The program is limited to 75 participants and space is filled on a firstcome, first-serve basis. Girls on the Run is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. They run a physical activity-based positive youth development program that is designed to enhance girls’ social, psychological and physical skills and behaviors to help them successfully navigate life experiences.

They serve girls in grades 3-5 and inspire them to be joyful, healthy and confident by using a fun, interactive curriculum, which creatively integrates running! Meeting twice a week in small teams for a 10-week season, a volunteer coach will teach girls life skills through engaging lessons and fun movement activities. At each season’s conclusion, all girls from teams across Long Island will meet up for a celebratory 5K running event. This year’s 5K event is scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at Hofstra University, where over 1000 individuals will run, volunteer or spectate to celebrate!

Their upcoming spring season will begin the week of March 16th and is shaping up to be their largest season yet!

Couples Invited To Renew Wedding Vows This Valentine’s Day Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and new Town Clerk Richard LaMarca invite residents to renew their wedding vows at a group ceremony scheduled for this Valentine’s Day, Friday, February 14th, at Oyster Bay Town Hall. The special ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include free photography and wedding cake for all guests.

“Valentine’s Day is recognized as the most romantic day of the year, and many couples celebrate their wedding anniversaries on this special day,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We look forward to sharing in this special occasion for our residents looking to renew their marriage

vows and declare their endless love for one another.”

Oyster Bay Town Councilman Tom Hand invites residents to enjoy the Town’s 46th Annual Rotational Art Exhibit Program. The unique program integrates arts and community and allows local artists to display their work in local libraries, banks, government offices and local businesses on a monthly “rotational” basis.

“Through this program, local businesses around the Town help to spread a passion for the arts by joining in and supporting local artists. This provides business patrons with the pleasure of viewing artwork in a setting they normally wouldn’t,” stated Councilman Hand. “Local businesses that participate

in the Rotational Arts Exhibit program have a unique opportunity to position themselves at the intersection of industry and art, which ultimately benefits all involved. This program not only features the diverse works of new artists, but also some of the most accomplished artists from the area.”

While the 2020 schedule is set, the Town of Oyster Bay is already looking for new artists and businesses to participate in next year’s program. Beginning in the fall, novice and experienced artists alike will have a chance to see their artwork approved and entered into ‘rotation’ where it will be displayed throughout the Town of Oyster Bay in

2021.

The program is free for both artists and businesses.
