“I was recommended to Billy of Home Comfort Assistance on Wednesday, August 6, 2014, by a good Friend. My Husband was bedridden and critically ill at home. Dave now weighs 126 lbs. and eliminated the pain medication and is a full functioning senior. This is nothing short of a Miracle.

A planned move from our home to another still took place although a little delayed. Our Home Health Aides were instrumental in the move and was a seemless transition. Dave now leads a good quality life and participates in many social functions outside his new home with the help of his aides. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilwoman Michele Johnson announced the Town is partnering with the Research Foundation of the State University of New York (SUNY Stony Brook) in a transformative project aimed at revitalizing Oyster BayCold Spring Harbor’s oyster populations. The project, titled “Putting the Oyster Back in Oyster Bay,” has received a generous grant amount of $477,200 from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF), with matching funds totaling $308,500.

Oyster reefs in Oyster Bay-Cold Spring Harbor have faced challenges due to overharvest, habitat loss, and water quality degradation. This project seeks to address these issues by synthesizing data to identify areas for enhanced oyster recruitment, survivorship, and growth, and to develop an ecosystemscale, science-based plan to establish self-sustaining oyster populations in Oyster Bay-Cold Spring Harbor.

By refining hydrodynamic models, creating habitat suitability maps, and mapping oyster recruitment, the initiative aims to coordinate local efforts to build a metapopulation of interconnected oyster reefs.

“Thousands of people die each year due to a lack of available organs for transplants. Everyone can help change this statistic by pledging organ donation

through their New York State driver’s license or through other initiatives such as the New York Organ Donor Network,” said Supervisor Saladino.

“Unfortunately, New York is at the bottom of the list as far as the number of people willing to be donors, and we have the opportunity to change that statistic.

Working together, we can save the lives of family members, friends and neighbors who are waiting for a life-saving organ transplant and a second chance at life.”

In New York State alone, nearly 8,500 people are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants, while 2,500 New Yorkers receive

transplants each year. Sadly, about 500 New Yorkers die waiting for a life-saving transplant.

One organ donor can save eight lives and heal 75 more through eye and tissue donation.

Anyone age 16 and older can join the registry, regardless of medical history. For more information, visit DonateLife.ny.gov.
