PARADE AND SPECIAL CEREMONY HONORS RECORD-BREAKING

On Monday, August 28th, hundreds of spectators gathered along Park Blvd in Massapequa Park to cheer on the 12-year-old Massapequa International Little League Softball Team as they celebrated an amazing victory in the Little League World Series. Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, and Massapequa Park Village Mayor Danny Pearl recognized these inspirational athletes as they became the first New York Team to ever win the Little League Softball World Championships.

With the help of Massapequa Takes Action Coalition, their youth committee, and YES Community Counseling Centers youth ambassadors, Massapequa and Massapequa Park businesses participated in this year’s Sticker Shock. This prevention campaign highlights the importance of parents and community members serving as healthy role models and not providing alcohol to teens. The MTAC prevention campaign, ‘Alcohol and Teens Don’t Mix: Don’t Buy for Minors’ offers resources to help parents talk with their children about the consequences and prevention of underage drinking and how it affects their brain, health and safety. Please remember, anyone over the age of 18 is breaking the law if you

give alcohol, marijuana, or opiates to a person under the age of 21.

“This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, and to honor those we have lost we invite all residents to join us at our annual September 11th Memorial

Ceremony. This remembrance ceremony features music, religious readings, a light tribute, and a reading of the names inscribed on the town’s 9/11 wall,” said Supervisor Saladino.

“We will also unveil new names inscribed on the town’s ‘Walls of Honor,’ recognizing those who made the ultimate sacrifice due to 9/11-related illness.”

Free ‘Last Summer Blast’ Concert With The Lords Of 52nd Street On Sept. 23rd

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that the Lords of 52nd Street will perform a ‘Last Summer Blast’ concert at Ellsworth W. Allen Park in Farmingdale on Saturday, September 23rd at 7 p.m. This free concert will offer residents one last chance to enjoy some free musical entertainment before the fall season officially arrives. The Lords of 52nd Street features the legends of The Billy Joel Band, including Richie Cannata, Liberty DeVitto, and Russell Javors.

Supervisor Saladino stated, “The Lords of 52nd Street are legends of rock n’ roll and put on an amazing performance each time out, recreating

all of Billy Joel’s indelible hits that they were originally a part of. The Town is proud to present this free concert to residents.”

Free Animal Adoption Month This September At Town Animal Shelter

Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic Scheduled For September 9th

Town Clerk Richard LaMarca announces that the Town’s Animal Shelter will waive adoption fees throughout the month of September.

“I invite and encourage residents looking for a new pet, to check in with the Town’s Animal Shelter during the month of September, as general adoption fees will be waived. Our shelter staff has a wonderful reputation for providing great care to the pets housed there, and has a long history of uniting those looking for a fur-ever companion,” said Clerk LaMarca.

During the month of September, the shelter will waive the general adoption fees of $80 per dog and $84 per cat. All usual adoption services will be provided, including the spaying or neutering of the

animal, vaccination and microchipping. Residents interested in viewing the animals available for adoption can call the shelter to make an appointment, or visit www.oysterbaytown. com.

“In addition to free adoption month, the Town will be hosting a Free Rabies Vaccination Clinic at the Animal Shelter on September 9th from 10 am to 2 pm. No reservations are necessary,” said Clerk LaMarca. Microchip services will also be available for a $25 fee. “If a pet is ever lost, they can be taken to a vet clinic or animal shelter where they will be scanned for a microchip ID and returned to their rightful owner.”

For Local Chambers Of Commerce & Business Associations Farmingdale, Massapequa Chambers First To Each Receive $50,000 Grants;

Supervisor Joseph Saladino and members of the Town Board recently announced more than a half million dollars in grant funding to help support local Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations that were negatively impacted by the COVID pandemic. The funding, which will be distributed to up to 12 chambers of commerce and business associations through the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce, is being provided through the American Rescue Plan Act and at no cost to Town taxpayers. The Farmingdale and Massapequa Chambers of Commerce were the first to receive the funding from the Town.

“We recognize the crucial role that local Chambers of Commerce and Business Associations play in

supporting small businesses, fostering commerce and establishing connections with potential customers. Unfortunately, so many of these organizations were significantly impacted by the COVID pandemic, leading to financial hardships,” said Supervisor Saladino. “As part of the Town’s commitment to supporting our local communities and aiding in the economic recovery of our Town, we are pleased to offer this grant opportunity.”

Grant funding will be administered by the Nassau Council of Chambers of Commerce to chambers and business associations in the Town of Oyster Bay. Entities are eligible to receive up to $50,000, which can be used for a variety of purposes, including operations and maintenance expenses and community investments.

Additionally, individual businesses and non-profits who have not yet applied for the Town’s $5,000 ‘Oyster Bay Forward’ grant program can still receive funding. The program is available to businesses that employ up to 50 full-time equivalent W-2 employees as well as sole proprietors.
