Located in Southaven County Park in Brookhaven (between exits 57 & 58 off Route 27) is the home of Long Island Live Steamers, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

They operate for the education and enjoyment of the public, and to preserve the history and wonderment of the glory days of railroading. All of their members are volunteers and very few of them are professional machinists, most of them are hobbyists. The uniting interest for them lies in steam power, railroad and having fun!

Free Transportation Through ‘Ride United’ United Way of Long Island recently launched ‘Ride United’ to help local residents access transportation to receive the COVID-19 vaccine through the rideshare service Lyft. The program is part of United Way Worldwide’s Ride United Vaccine Access Campaign, which addresses unmet transportation needs for individuals and families.

Long Island residents participating in ‘Ride United’ receive 2 free Lyft rides (up to $25 each way) to and from vaccination appointments located in Nassau or Suffolk Counties. Riders must download the Lyft app on a supported device and have an active Lyft account.

Residents Invited To Renew Wedding Vows Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Town Clerk Richard LaMarca invite residents to renew their wedding vows at a group ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, August 18th, which is National Happy Couple’s Day. The special ceremony will take place beach-side at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park in Oyster Bay, beginning at 11 a.m. and will include complimentary photography and light refreshments for all guests.

“Our beautiful beach and picturesque harbor will provide the perfect backdrop to couples looking to celebrate their love this summer,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We look forward to sharing this wonderful day with happy couples who want to declare their endless love for one another.”

The ceremony will take place by the gazebo at Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park & Beach, located off Larrabee Avenue in Oyster Bay hamlet.
