once again partner with Catholic Health on Long Island and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center, to raise this important funding to support cancer research and clinical trials,” said Supervisor Saladino. “Ride to better health while cycling through beautiful beaches, woodlands, and historic destinations – in and around the Town of Oyster Bay’s exquisite north shore. With two wheels on the ground, you can help change the world!”
The event features three course lengths for riders of all ages and ability. All routes will begin on Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay, by the historic Oyster Bay Post Office. For those who can’t cycle but wish to attend and support the event, downtown Oyster Bay will also host a street fair, hosted in partnership with the Oyster Bay Main Street Association and Oyster Bay-East Norwich Chamber of Commerce –as local businesses will line the streets with food, live music and fun activities for families.

Town & PSEG Long Island Team Up To Save Protected Species
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and members of the Town Board recently collaborated with PSEG Long Island to save the protected osprey species in Oyster Bay. After an osprey nest was destroyed by a fire on a utility pole at Theodore Roosevelt Park, PSEG Long Island and the Town took swift action to relocate the nest and build a dedicated platform.
“I’m so proud to stand with PSEG Long Island today as we save the osprey in Oyster Bay! Ospreys are a protected species and an important indicator of ecosystem health. They’ve also become beloved symbols of our area, akin to mascots for the community,” Supervisor Saladino said. “After a recent fire threatened an osprey nest, we worked with PSEG Long Island to ensure their safety and preserve their habitat. I’m happy to report that the
osprey have taken well to their new home!”
A fire broke out on a utility pole at the Town of Oyster Bay’s Theodore Roosevelt Park, resulting in the loss of an Osprey nest that had been a fixture at the site for several years. The town had planned to construct a new Osprey stand at the same location. However, before construction could commence, the Ospreys had already begun building a new nest on a neighboring utility pole.
Working closely with town officials and wildlife experts, PSEG Long Island had a crew remove the newly built nest from the utility pole and relocate it to the new Osprey stand constructed by the town. The osprey pair have already been sighted making themselves at home on their new platform.
“PSEG Long Island is pleased to collaborate
with the Town of Oyster Bay and a local wildlife conservation group to relocate this nest to a safe platform, encouraging the osprey to nest away from the power lines and equipment,” said Dave Lyons, PSEG Long Island’s interim president and chief operating officer. “Protecting these birds from highvoltage equipment improves reliability for the customers we serve. We look forward to many more years of enjoying this osprey pair at Theodore Roosevelt Park.”
Both the Town of Oyster Bay and PSEG Long Island also thank Jim Jones of the Bayville Environmental Conservation Committee, who played a tremendous role in making this rescue possible.
TEAMING UP TO SAVE PROTECTED SPECIES - Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino Joins PSEG Long Island Team, including Vinny Frigeria, Regional Public Affairs Manager, Lisanne Altmann, Co-President of the PSEG Long Island Environmental Guardian, Michael Presti, Director of Customer Experience, Michael Mclaughlin, Senior Distribution Operations Supervisor, Elizabeth Flagler, Head of Internal and External Communications, and John Stalzer, Environmental Regulation Procedures and Training Specialist, along with Jim Jones of the Bayville Environmental Conservation Committee, at the New Osprey Nest Near the Western Waterfront in Oyster Bay.

Summer is a great time to enjoy recreational activities that take advantage of the great outdoors. This year summer arrives on June 20 with the summer solstice, which features the most hours of daylight of any day for the entire year. Celebrants who want to usher in another summer of fun in the sun can embrace these ideas for commemorating the start of summer.
Fun Ways To Celebrate The Summer Solstice
• Watch the sunrise. Get up early and watch the sun come up on the longest day of the year. Then be sure to catch the sunset to enjoy every minute of daylight.
• Host a cookout. Memorial Day, Canada Day and Independence Day get most of the barbecue glory this time of year. But there’s nothing that says the first day of summer shouldn’t be a reason to
gather friends and family for a cookout. June 20 falls on a Thursday this year, so the solstice provides the perfect excuse to take a four-day weekend and celebrate the official arrival of summer.
• Light a campfire. Traditional Mid-summer’s Eve/summer solstice celebrations featured bonfires. Hold on to the tradition by gathering people around a campfire
We are excited to announce floor-to-ceiling room renovations to our Mt. Laurel Suites, as well as our Springbrook rooms!
First renovations completed as early as this spring!
or backyard firepit. S’mores make the perfect complement to a campfire scene.
• Grab some ice cream. Cool off on the summer solstice by visiting a nearby ice cream shop and indulge in a sundae or triple-decker cone.
• Go on a nature hike. Enjoy the great outdoors with a relaxing hike through a park or nature trail.
• Participate in a beach clean-up. Make a beach trip even more enjoyable by signing up for a cleanup to clear the sand of litter. Organize an impromptu beach cleanup session either solo or with some like-minded friends.
• Pick fresh fruit. Many berries come into season in the summer. Head to a nearby pick-your-own farm and grab fresh fruit
to enjoy right away or utilize your pickings in recipes.
• Plant a flower garden. Clean up garden beds or go to the nursery and grab some colorful annuals to spruce up areas around the yard.
The summer solstice is an opportunity to celebrate the arrival of summer and all the fun that comes with it.

Volunteer Opportunity To Help Terrapin Turtles Survive
June 15th Survival Day Includes Beach Cleanup
In an effort to help Terrapin turtles survive predators, Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Laura Maier announces that the Town and Friends of the Bay are co-hosting a Terrapin Survival and Beach Cleanup Day on Saturday, June 15th from 9am to 11am at Centre Island Beach.
“The Town of Oyster Bay joined forces with Friends of the Bay to launch ‘Team Terrapin,’ to help protect the Diamondback Terrapin turtle, as this small species lives in fresh or brackish waters in our Town,” said Councilwoman Maier. “These turtles, which have distinctive diamond-shaped rings covering their shells,
have a near-threatened conservation status and we are working with our environmental partners and local volunteers to help protect this vulnerable species.”
During this Terrapin Survival and Beach Cleanup Day, volunteers will be trained to identify signs of nesting terrapins, briefed on how to collect data and how to deploy protective cages around nests. These structures keep natural predators like raccoons and fox away from the terrapins, thus contributing to their survival. The event features a beach cleanup and tours of nesting sites.
Terrapin monitoring will take place for four to six weeks after
the event and Team Terrapin volunteers will be encouraged to sign up for half-hour or one-hour monitoring shifts during weekdays and weekends. This is an excellent citizen science opportunity for people of all ages. Community service hours and certificates of participation will be provided upon request.
Terrapins can be found along the northern shore of Oyster Bay, especially at Centre Island Beach, with a large population at the head of Mill Neck Creek near Beaver Dam. To register for the event, volunteers should visit https://www. friendsofthebay.org/ volunteer-opportunities. html

Students Celebrate Front-Line Heroes
Fire trucks and police cars awed students, as did the stories from the men and women who ride in those vehicles, as Lockhart Elementary School in the Massapequa School District held its inaugural First Responders Day on May 22.
For the first hour, family members of students who work as firefighters, police officers, emergency medical technicians, doctors, nurses, physician assistants and more visited classrooms to talk about their careers. They shared stories, showed the equipment they use and even had some free goodies for the children.
Then, the entire student body gathered on the back lawn for an exciting program hosted by the Nassau County Police Department. A parade of
vehicles rolled down the blacktop as Commissioner Patrick Ryder introduced different units including the 7th Precinct, emergency services, canine and motorcycle, along with an NYPD mounted unit. The excitement was evident as a helicopter from Nassau’s aviation unit did three circles around Lockhart.
Students then got to visit different stations to see the police vehicles and animal units up close. There was also a station where volunteers from the Massapequa Fire Department showcased the equipment aboard a fire engine, ladder truck and heavy rescue.
Principal Michael DeLuca and Assistant Principal Louisa Vecchione began planning for the
first-time event about five months ago. The idea was sparked by Ms. Vecchione’s sister, whose husband is a police officer. Once the school secured the visit from Nassau County Police, they reached out to families to seek guests for the classroom visits.
Students and staff were able to purchase navy blue “Lockhart Supports Our First Responders” T-shirts to wear. The sale raised more than $900 for the First Responders Foundation.
“We have so many families in Massapequa that are in the role of first responders,” Mr. DeLuca said. “This event is a great way to thank them for their hard work and service.”

Park Restrooms Upgraded To Further Serve Individuals With Disabilities
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board announced a new initiative to enhance the inclusivity and accessibility of Oyster Bay’s parks - the installation of adult changing tables. Designated public restrooms at Allen Park in Farmingdale, Burns Park in Massapequa, and the Town Ice Skating Center in Bethpage now have adult changing tables, and the town plans to install a total of 15 more across various parks.
“Our goal is to make Oyster Bay’s parks more inclusive for everyone,” Supervisor Saladino said.
“By adding adult changing tables to our public restrooms, we are ensuring that individuals with disabilities, their families, and caregivers can enjoy our parks with dignity and ease. This is just one of many
steps we are taking to create an environment where everyone feels welcome.”
In addition to the adult changing tables, several Town parks feature playgrounds and swings designed for individuals with disabilities, as well as play communication boards that facilitate inclusive play for children with speech and language challenges.
The Town plans to install additional adult changing tables at Bethpage Community Park, Plainview-
Old Bethpage Community Park, Marjorie Post Park, Syosset-Woodbury Community Park, Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park, TOBAY Beach, and Philip B. Healy Beach. All installations have been funded through the Nassau County Community Development Block Grant Program – not Town tax dollars. For information, call the Town of Oyster Bay Parks Department at (516) 7974128.

Police Officers Greeted With Cheers And Curiosity
More than three dozen police officers visited McKenna Elementary School in the Massapequa School District on May 16, the marquee event to mark National Police Week.
Officers spent the morning visiting classrooms to talk about their jobs.
Principal Dr. Amanda Lowry said celebrating Police Week is an annual tradition spanning more
than a decade, but this year’s was the biggest event so far. She explained that following the tragic death of New York City police officer Jonathan Diller, a Massapequa Park resident, there was added importance to show law enforcement professionals that the community supports and stands behind them.
A total of 37 officers, detectives and other law enforcement personnel attended. They represented a variety of departments including Nassau County Police, the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, New York City Police, local villages, Homeland Security and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Dr. Lowry said that a message went out to McKenna families seeking participation from students’ relatives who are active in law enforcement, and the response was overwhelming. The Nassau County Police Department also sent officers from the 7th Precinct’s POP unit.
Every classroom has at least one visitor. Students, many dressed in blue, asked their prepared questions. Officers talked about the reasons they went into law enforcement, the training that is required and the tools they use. Several officers even brought in pieces of equipment to show the children, such as handcuffs, helmets and vests.
Signs around the building to welcome the guests were completed by students under the direction of art teacher Melania Sabia. Each class also presented its visitors with handmade cards.
The program concluded with a bagpipe parade through the school. Students from all grades lined the first floor hallways, and the MTA Police Pipe and Drum Band marched through, followed by all of the visiting police officers.
“It’s important for students to see the officers that come in and the different career paths in law enforcement,” Dr. Lowry said. “This is a police and public-service oriented community.”
In honor of National Police Week, Dr. Lowry and Assistant Principal Mary Anne Ferraro made a donation to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board unveiled a new mobile app today that allows residents to sign up for a variety of sports and recreational programs. The app is available for download through the AppStore and Google Play Store by searching ‘Town of Oyster Bay Parks & Rec,’ and allows residents to set up an account to sign up for yearround recreational opportunities.
“Through this great new Town of Oyster Bay Parks & Rec app, our residents can easily register for their favorite sports and recreation
Great Grilling Gifts For Dad
flex their culinary muscles and deliver plenty of flame-licked foods.
Various organizations that specialize in grilling have found that men are twice as likely to grill compared to women. Therefore, gifts that cater to dads’ grilling gusto can be ideal this Father’s Day.
• BBQ grill tools: Every grillmaster needs a quality set of tools to do the job. Ultimate grilling kits often come complete with spatula, fork, tongs, heat-resistant gloves, skewers, and additional grilling gear.
• Digital food thermometer: Cooking food to
programs with just a few taps on their phones, simplifying the process for all who enjoy recreation in our Town,” said Supervisor Saladino.
“This new app helps streamline the registration process and keeps all your favorite activities conveniently in one place.
Registration is currently available for golf, marina memberships, night fishing, kayak and rowing rack rentals, and various adult and youth programs including ice hockey, tennis, toddler programs, basketball, and sports & fitness. Residents can also sign up
for special events, including runs and walks, tournaments and the Town’s car show. Residents can browse through available programs, view descriptions and schedules, upload all necessary materials and sign up right on the app.
App users can also opt-in to receive notifications and stay up to date on all offerings. To view all the new Town of Oyster Bay Parks & Rec app has to offer, visit your AppStore or Google Play store and download it today. For more information, visit www.oysterbaytown. com.
the correct internal temperature is vital for safety and flavor. Various food thermometers are on the market, but ones that can remain in the food and then send temperatures back to an app via Bluetooth can keep grillers apprised of the cooking progress minute-by-minute.
• Engraved cutting board: Laser-engraved cutting boards can be customized with special messages or monograms so that Dad will feel extra-special serving up his grilled feast.
• Premium wood chunks: Foods can be enhanced with extra flavor when grillmasters utilize wood during cooking. Put together a gift package with woods like hickory, apple and maple.
• Smoker: Expand Dad’s outdoor setup by buying him a smoker. Smokers enable low-and-slow cooking and are ideal
for making briskets, pork roasts and ribs. Some smokers come as combination models that have a grill on one side and a smoker box on the other.
• Meat grinder: Whether it’s a free-standing appliance or an attachment for a stand mixer, a meat grinder enables a person to make his own custom blends of ground meats to use in burgers or sausages. This allows full control over the quality of the meat cuts used.
• Personalized grill mat: This type of mat will add a personal touch to the grilling area. These mats look good, and many are made with anti-slip backing to ensure they stay in place. Standing on the mat can be more comfortable than standing on concrete or pavers.
Dad deserves the best for Father’s Day. For men who enjoy manning the grill, grilling accessories can heat up gift-giving.
