Contractors For Kids (CFK) is a non-profit organization, which was founded for the purpose of providing assistance to families in Long Island communities. Their goal is to assist children and their families overcome obstacles that have unfortunately changed or have impacted their lives through the sickness, injury or death of a child.

They are committed to this cause and want to give hope and reassurance for the futures of Long Islanders.

CFK was founded in 2005 by Kevin Harney and Alan Nahmias of Stalco Construction. Kevin and Alan, both long-time philanthropists, saw the growing need for financial assistance in our communities and knew that something more needed to be done.

Through random acts of kindness, they were slowly changing the lives of others, however they thirsted to make more change so they decided to form this non-profit, Contractors For Kids.

Their organization runs on donations only and is volunteer based, they have no employees. One family at a time, they make sure that the financial hardship brought on by sickness, injury or death does not destroy an already hurting family. Whether it is to pay a phone bill or a mortgage payment, they want to be there to help.

Since 2005, CFK has given out more than 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help local Long Islanders. Here are some of the areas they’ve helped others financially: Rent, Mortgage Payments, Oil Deliveries, Utility Bills, Food, Transportation To & From Hospitals, Co-Payments, Medications & Funeral Expenses.

So how do you qualify to get help? It’s quite simple. If you can prove that you are struggling financially because of the sickness, injury or death of a child, you live on Long Island (in Nassau or Suffolk County), and you have

New Business Chief The Massapequa School District has appointed Lisa Silveri as the new Executive Director for Business and Operations, effective Sept.

1. She will replace Deputy Superintendent Alan Adcock, who is retiring, as the district’s chief financial officer.

Ms. Silveri, a Wantagh resident, holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Loyola University in Maryland, a master’s degree in early childhood education from Hofstra University, a master’s degree in educational leadership from Stony Brook University and master’s degree in school district business leadership from Hofstra. She is a member of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the Association of School Business Officials, Long Island Language Teachers and the New York State School Boards Association.

Additionally, she has presented at numerous conferences and been published in the New York State Association of Foreign Language Teachers Journal.

Ms. Silveri has worked in the district for more than 15 years in roles as a Spanish teacher, assistant principal of summer school, principal of night school, interim executive assistant to the principal at the high school, interim transportation supervisor and supervisor of the Elementary Distance Learning Center. After teaching Spanish at the secondary level for a

LISA SILVERI decade, she moved to the elementary level in 2016 for the inaugural year of the district’s Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools program.

For the past four years, Ms. Silveri has served as the Administrative Associate for General Administration in the district’s central office.

She has worked on a wide range of projects including implementation of the Yale University RULER social and emotional learning program, organizing a Makerspace demonstration at the Discovery Science Fair, working with the Spanish Honor Society to provide Spanish student interpreters at the 2019 budget vote, writing grant applications, streamlining elementary curriculum maps for the website and updating district policies and staff handbooks.

This is her second year as a member of the district’s Budget Finance Committee, which works closely with the business office and the deputy superintendent to assist in developing the annual budget.

With her experience as a

Spanish teacher, Ms. Silveri worked with the World Language Department to establish Massapequa High School as a New York State Seal of Biliteracy school.

Graduates can now earn the designation on their diplomas for achieving mastery in English and at least one world language.

Ms. Silveri has served as a mentor to eligible students and sat on review panels for student final projects.

“I am fortunate to have deep ties to curriculum and instruction in the Massapequa School District while also being skilled in all aspects of business,” she said. “To ensure the most effective and efficient transition in this important role, I look forward to continuing to work closely with the Board of Education, Central Office, the Budget and Finance Committee and the Massapequa faculty, staff and community at large.”

Saladino and Town Board Honors Autism FYI and Proclaims April “Autism Awareness Month 2021” Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Oyster Bay Town Board recently honored Massapequa resident Kristine Magnifico-Riggio and her organization Autism FYI at a recent Town Board meeting, and proclaimed April 2021 Autism Awareness Month in the Town of Oyster Bay. Supervisor Saladino and the Town Board joined Kristine and Autism FYI to support and bring awareness to the 1-in-54 children born who will be diagnosed with Autism.

1--in-34 boys and 1-in144 girls have an Autism Spectrum Disorder. Boys are four times more likely than girls, and the prevalence of Autism is increasing. There is no medical detection and no cure at the current time, though medical science is working on it. Autism FYI is doing its part by providing a safety program that offers easily identifiable products for quick identification by emergency personnel, a hotline for accessing emergency contacts and medical information and

training. Autism FYI has created training programs for first responders, childcare providers, transportation models, hair salons, restaurant staff, school resource officers, correctional officers and medical staff.

Supervisor Saladino and the Oyster Bay Town Board thanked Kristine and her organization for their amazing work, and presented her with the proclamation honoring Autism Awareness Month in the Town of Oyster Bay.
