Saladino Announces Youth Dek Hockey Registration For Fall Coach Openings Available For 2022 Fall Program
Bishop Stephen Parkes MHS 1983, Dr. Cynthia Paulis MHS 1971, Sara Rutledge Pereira MHS 2000, Todd Svec BHS 1981. Community honorees included Brian Conboy and Michael Venditto. Since its creation in 1995, the Hall of Fame has awarded 220 scholarships to Massapequa High School graduates. This year seven $2,000 scholarships were awarded to the following students Jack McAuley,MichaelHoward,AnthonyDiGennaro,DeTommaso,LiaMichaelJantz,Leonick,MatthewandMegan Tierney.During the past 25 years, the Hall of Fame has raised $440,000. Along with the scholarships, they provide grants to schools and community organizations. Johnson Announces Fall 2022 Toddler Arts & Crafts Program Registration Begins September 7th – Space Limited Oyster Bay Town Councilwoman Michele Johnson recently announced that the popular Toddler Arts & Crafts Program will be offered again this Fall, beginning on October 18, 2022. This 6-week program offers classes at the Town’s Ice Skating Center Community Room in Bethpage and at the Hicksville Athletic Center, and is open to children ages 2 through 4. “The Town’s Toddler Arts & Crafts Program is a wonderful way to help support your toddler’s development by nurturing their artistic expression,” said Councilwoman Johnson. “Classes will certainly fill up quickly as this program offers children an opportunity to meet others their age and explore their creativity.”
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino announced that registration will be opening soon for the Town’s Spring Youth Dek Hockey League both online and in person. The league is open to boys and girls ages 6-12, and will begin on Monday, September 12th. Dek hockey is a variation of traditional ice hockey, where the games are played without skates on the ‘dek’ of an ice rink after the ice has melted away for the season. The season will feature 10 games, weekly practices, and an end-ofseason playoff competition.

RMHC NY Metro is currently engaged in a campaign to support a new physical location in Suffolk. Individuals and companies from around the region have committed financial support to helping grow the “Weoperation.areactively looking at options for bringing a Ronald McDonald House to Suffolk County,” said Nick Croce, Co-Chair of the RMHC NY Metro Suffolk County Advisory Council. “We want Suffolk families to have the TheHydeHouseRonaldweandaccommodationssameresourcesthatprovideattheMcDonaldinNewPark.”Ronald McDonald House in New Hyde Park is a 42-bed residential facility, providing free lodging for families with a child undergoing medical treatment at Cohen Children’s Hospital next door and at other medical facilities in the area. Families also have access to homecooked meals, which are donated and prepared by volunteers, as well as shower, laundry and play areas for siblings for the duration of their “Somestay.families come to us for days, weeks or months at a time, depending on the circumstances,” said Campo. “We want families to have access to those same resources in Suffolk County so they can keep their attention on helping their children get better.”

The Massapequa faculty welcomes approximately 30 new members this year, teaching a variety of grade levels and subject areas at the elementary and secondary level. Some are coming with previous teaching experience and others are right out of college with education degrees. They all came together on the morning of Aug. 23 for the first day of new teacher orientation at McKenna Elementary School’s Teacher Learning Center.Board of Education President Kerry Wachter welcomed the new faculty members and reminded them to start each day by remember the reason they became teachers. Superintendent Dr. William Brennan added that the new teachers went through a rigorous hiring process and those at orientation represent “the best of the best.” Dr. Brennan had a few pieces of advice for the teachers as they begin their Massapequa careers. He encouraged them to learn from their colleague by asking questions and seeking out mentors. They should also develop strong relationships with students, establish good communication with parents, be flexible and reflective, and never forget they are a part of a team. New teacher orientation include an overview of instructional technology resources, special education and the district’s teacher center. During breakout groups, teachers learned about the district’s curriculum and instructional practices, and met with building administrators and department leaders.
