Advises Late TaxpayersGeneralOfLastChance
To assist property owners who missed the August 10th deadline for paying their 2022 General taxes, Town of Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato reminds residents that they can still pay the bill by Wednesday, August 31st with the State mandated 2% late payment penalty while avoiding additional interest and fees from accruing on their property.Late payers should immediately contact the Receiver’s office at (516) 624-6400, if they did not receive a second notification with a delinquent tax bill. Payments postmarked after August 31st cannot be accepted since the collection warrant will have expired. Those payments must be sent to the Nassau County Treasurer at 1 West Street, Mineola, New York 11501. In September, the Nassau County Treasurer will be mailing notices to all property owners with taxes in arrears. Receiver Pravato advises homeowners who fall under those circumstances to contact the Nassau County Treasurer at (516) 571-2090 to determine the amount due. They may also visit the Nassau County Treasurer’s office at 1 West Street in Mineola.
Receiver Pravato stated, “Homeowners are already paying some of the highest property taxes in the nation, and I want to make sure that our residents do not pay more out of pocket than they have to.”

Obituary Frances M. Tedesco, formerly of Massapequa, LI., died August 8, 2022 at Van Rensselear Manor Nursing Home, in Troy, New York. She was 94 years old. Mrs. Tedesco was born on March 23, 1928 in Brooklyn, New York to Rosario and Carmela (Cardinale) Giarrusso. In addition to caring for her family she was employed by Amityville School District as a teacher’s aide. Frances was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Dominick J. Tedesco. Survivors include her children; Robert A. (Barbara), Richard J. (Sharon), and Roni Marie Klein (James); her grandchildren Lyndsey Mokhiber (Leo), Jacquelyn Archina (Rocco), Candice McClung (Michael) and Kathryn Abbate (Anthony); and her sister Linda Galizio. Mrs. Tedesco’s brother Roy Giarrusso predeceased her. She is also survived by her many great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Msgr. Thomas Costa, was held at St. Martin of Tours R.C. Church assisted by the Consolation Ministry and members of the family. Interment followed in Pinelawn Memorial Park. Arrangements were under the direction of Powell Funeral Home, Inc., Amityville, New York.

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and the Town Board invite residents to join them at the Town’s annual September 11th Memorial Ceremony scheduled for Thursday, September 8th at 7:00 p.m. at TOBAY Beach. “This year marks the 21st anniversary of the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, and to honor those we have lost we invite all residents to join us at our annual September 11th Memorial Ceremony. This remembrance ceremony features music, religious readings, a light tribute, and a reading of the names inscribed on the Town’s 9/11 wall,” said Supervisor Saladino. “We will also unveil new names inscribed on the Town’s ‘Walls of Honor,’ recognizing those who gave the ultimate sacrifice due to 9/11 related illness.” The Town’s 9/11 Memorialfeaturing a steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center - is inscribed with the names of residents lost on September 11, 2001. The Walls of Honor monument expands each year with newly inscribed names of those who lost their battle with 9/11 illness caused by exposure at Ground Zero.
