Massapequa High School’s Family and Consumer Sciences Department will once again sponsor a preschool program for district residents, hosted by students in child study courses. The preschool is supervised by child study program director Anna Fierro-Gregg. The preschool program will begin in early December and will end next June. Two sessions are being offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, each approximately 80 minutes. Children must attend both days of the session chosen. To be eligible, children must be between the ages of 3 (as of Dec. 6) and 5 (not attending kindergarten) and toilet trained. Enrollment in the popular program is

Locust Valley, Glen Cove and Old Brookville (for more experienced riders) and a 62-mile route through Glen Cove, Sea Cliff, Roslyn Harbor, to Port Washington, and then all the way to Teddy Roosevelt’s home at Sagamore Hill (for advanced cyclists). By participating in Empire State Ride Long Island, bicyclists will have an opportunity to make a real impact on cancer research and patient care through clinical trials at these locations. In 2021, over $100,000 was raised by nearly 250 riders. Registration is now open for this fundraising event with a $25 fee for each participant. Riders will commit to a fundraising minimum which is $200 for adults and $75 for riders under 18 for all routes. To kick start each rider’s efforts, their $25 registration fee will be credited to their fundraising page. The Head Injury Association also offers support and services to help navigate the eligibility process and throughout the application phase to assist in accessing supports and services offered through Head Injury Association. It also offers employment services, with Adult Career and Continuing Education ServicesVocational Rehabilitation (ACCES-VR) to achieve and maintain employment, and to support independent living through training, education, rehabilitation and career development. Another Kinexion afﬁliate organization is the Center for Developmental Disabilities, located in Woodbury. “We help children and adults overcome

barriers to living, working, learning and enjoying recreational opportunities in the community of their choice,” says Jay Silverstein, Ph.D., Executive Director of The Center. “We are dedicated to the achievement of excellence and innovation within a community based upon respect, kindness and open communication.” The center offers a variety of diverse programs include a Children’s Day Program, which operates 12 months a year and serving children ages 5-21 who have an educational classiﬁcation of Autism, Intellectual Disability or Multiple Disabilities. The classroom curriculum covers academic subjects such as English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, while also fostering the development of each student’s daily living skills and social skills. Computer and technology education are a part of each classroom’s weekly schedule. The Center also launched the “Support with Dignity” initiative to enhance opportunities for individuals to live with greater independence within their communities. This initiative embraces three pillars: Respectful Interactions, Promoting Independence and fostering Purposeful, Person-Centered Activities. Through a collective commitment to best practices in the ﬁeld, the Center will advance the hopes and dreams of the individuals it serves. The New York State Assembly’s 2022 Summer Reading Challenge is here, and Assemblyman Michael Durso (Massapequa Park) is encouraging students in New York and across Long Island to participate. Assemblyman Durso, in coordination with New York State libraries, is sponsoring this Summer Reading Challenge to inspire kids

to explore far-off worlds, discover new interests or learn new skills. Over one million children and teens participated in the Summer Reading Challenge last year and we are looking for more young individuals to join for this year’s theme “Oceans of Possibilities,” celebrating all things water and oceanrelated. “Summer break is a great

time for kids to visit their local library and check out the exciting activities and books they have to offer,” said Durso. “I am encouraging and challenging my own kids and students in my district to continue learning over the summer by picking up a book. Studies have shown that children who read over summer break retain information better,

come to school ready to learn, and avoid the loss of learning known as the ‘summer slide’.” After completing 40 or more days of reading and marking each day on the given calendar provided by Assemblyman Durso, you return the completed form to the Assemblyman’s office and he will award your child with a New York

Specific sizes are: GIRLS: 3-4, 4-5 and 9-10 and BOYS: 7-8 and 9-10. Ethical Friends of Children is an outreach program
