Lindenhurst BOE Recognizes Academic Achievements Of Advanced Placement Scholars

At the conclusion of the 2021-2022 school year, the College Board recognized Lindenhurst High School junior and senior students as Advanced Placement Scholars for their extraordinary performance on Advanced Placement Program exams.

At the Nov. 16 meeting of the Lindenhurst Union

Free School District Board of Education, 58 of the Advanced Placement Scholars who are now seniors at Lindenhurst High School were recognized for their outstanding achievement on the challenging exams.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers academically

excelling students an opportunity to enroll in college-level courses while still in high school to earn college credit. The College Board recognizes varying levels of achievement based on students’ performance on the course exams.

Twenty-one students were recognized as AP Scholars, receiving a score of 3 or

higher on three or more AP exams.

Having attained an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams, 10 students were named AP Scholars with Honor.

Fourteen students were recognized as AP Scholars with Distinction for

achieving an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.

Nine students were recognized as students receiving the AP Seminar and Research Certificate for earning scores of 3 or higher in both AP Seminar and AP Research, and four

students were recognized for receiving the AP Capstone Certificate for earning scores of 3 or higher in AP Research, AP Seminar and on four additional AP exams.

Additionally, three students named National Merit Commended Students were honored at the meeting.

Lindenhurst Finishes Second In USBands National Championship

LINDENHURST FINISHES SECOND - On Nov. 6, the Lindenhurst Marching Band capped off its most successful season in recent memory as the newly crowned New York State Champions traveled to Allentown, Pennsylvania to participate in the USBands Class A National Championship weekend, which included 68 bands, representing seven states. At the competition, Lindenhurst was awarded the USBands silver medal, scoring a 93.1, the band’s highest score in over 30 years. In addition, the band won the caption award for Best Music. FAIR - The excitement of the holidays has begun and so have all the wonderful seasonal craft fairs. The Rainbow Senior Center staff provided complimentary coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Rainbow Center Manager Dawn Shipsey said, “We look forward to seeing all our valued guests and vendors every year, and this year was better than ever. Our thanks to all involved.”

Clothing Donations Needed For Long Island Children

Ethical Friends of Children, a program helping needy families on Long Island, seeks clothing (tops, bottoms, pjs, sweaters and socks) in certain sizes. Specific sizes are: GIRLS: 3-4, 4-5 and 9-10 and BOYS: 7-8 and 9-10.

Ethical Friends of Children is an outreach

program of the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island., established in 1985.

“We assist more than 2,500 children and their families each year by providing them clothing for children from newborn to size 12 as well as infant furniture at no cost,” says Pat Spencer of Port Washington. The “store” – staffed entirely by

BELFAST GASTROPUB HOSTS GIVING TREE - Brother Knight and Belfast

Managing Partner Bobby Fortier hosted Lindy Cares, headed up by Lori Ann Novello and her team, to launch the annual Giving Tree. The tree has ornaments as a gift for a family in need. This is a very important initiative for the holiday season and supporting those in the community that need it for Christmas. The Lindenhurst Knights were in support of this event.

The Charity of the Month for December is EAC Network

EAC Network is a non-profit organization that empowers, assists and cares for individuals in need. Their objective is to reach individuals within our community through innovative programs that improve quality of life. They have five service areas:

Children & Youth: Their Children & Youth services work deeply with children who are victims of child abuse and neglect or who are involved in the foster care system or child trafficking. They provide supervised visitation between noncustodial parents and their children, promote child passenger safety and offer mentors for at-risk youth.

Family & Community: EAC Network’s Family and Community programs help individuals pay bills, resolve family and business conflicts and navigate through obstacles that hinder selfsufficiency.

Senior & Nutrition Services: EAC Network is a provider of Meals on Wheels. They act as guardians for seniors, as well as mentally and/or physically incapacitated individuals, who are unable to manage aspects of daily life on their own. Their senior centers provide warm meals, exercise and social interaction to local seniors. They also offer technology classes as well as trained companions to relieve caregivers.

Vocational Services: Their Vocational Services offer a variety of programs that provide participants with skills to obtain and retain employment, particularly with at-risk populations.

Behavioral Health & Criminal Justice Services: They offer Behavioral Health programs that work in tandem with the criminal justice system to help

individuals suffering from mental health and/ or substance abuse issues obtain treatment. They also offer programs for Anger Management, Community Service and educational intervention for domestic violence offenders, and more.

Within those five areas of service, they run a total of 103 programs and they serve over 50,000 people a year with offices in all five boroughs, Suffolk County, Nassau County and Rockland County!

There are so many ways that you can get involved with EAC Network, whether it be through an internship or volunteer position, attending an event, making a donation or fundraising. Stay tuned for next week’s article to learn more about how you can make a difference in your community.
