Councilman Terence McSweeney congratulated Chief DeGregorio, highlighting the immense value he brings to the Lindenhurst and Town of Babylon community. McSweeney emphasized that the community is fortunate to have someone like Mike, whose knowledge and experience allowed him to save a young man’s life and avert a senseless tragedy. As the public safety chairman, Councilman McSweeney conveyed on behalf of the entire town board his deepest gratitude to Chief DeGregorio for being in the right place at the right time. The town board and the Town of Babylon are immensely grateful for Chief DeGregorio’s heroic actions.

Sen. Martinez Announces State Funds To Help Libraries Enhance Facilities
Several libraries serving the New York State Senate’s Fourth Senatorial District will soon be turning a new page as they improve their facilities to better serve patrons. State Sen. Monica R. Martinez announced today that the Babylon, Deer Park, West Babylon, and West Islip public libraries have been awarded more than $410,000 through the State Aid for Library
The grants awarded are as follows:
Construction program to make critical infrastructure improvements. These upgrades will allow the libraries to remain welcoming and functional spaces for the community.
“Much like a well-read book whose binding and pages wear down over time, so too does the physical library building,” said Sen. Martinez. “These renovations will ensure these community centers stack up to the demands
placed on them and provide safer, more accessible spaces where everyone can learn, connect, and grow. I’m proud to support these efforts to keep our libraries running smoothly for all who visit them.”
More than half of New
York’s public library buildings are over 60 years old, with many others facing challenges such as outdated infrastructure and limited accessibility. The State Aid for Library Construction program addresses these issues by providing critical support to modernize facilities so they can continue serving their communities effectively. The 2023-2024 state budget allocated $34 million in capital funds for public library construction, with some projects receiving up to 75% of eligible costs. These funds help libraries upgrade their spaces and adapt to evolving community needs, including projects that enhance heating and cooling systems, improve broadband access, create spaces for community activities, and make other essential renovations to ensure they remain welcoming, energyefficient, and fully accessible.

2. Clean the Chimney and Fireplace – Now is the time to have your chimney cleaned and inspected to give you a safe and efficient fireplace experience throughout the fall and winter months.
3. Rake and Compost Leaves - Instead of throwing those colorful leaves away, compost them! They can become rich, nourishing soil for your garden next year.
4. Swap Out Air FiltersAs you transition from A/C to heating, replace your HVAC filters. Clean filters mean better air quality and a more efficient system.

Senior advocates are County representatives who come out into the community and assist seniors with information gathering, completion of eligibility or recertification applications and referrals to appropriate community agencies.
“It is so important for us to provide our senior citizens with the assistance and information they need in ways that are most convenient to them. The 31st annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Long Island is a celebration of courage and hope, and a movement that unites communities to end breast cancer as we know it, for everyone. Expecting 70,000+ participants.
Over the past three decades, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer’s 3- to 5-mile walks
have collectively grown into the nation’s largest and most impactful breast cancer movement – providing a supportive community for survivors, caregivers and families alike. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer funds lifesaving breast cancer research and is committed to advancing health equity through essential programs and services.
Cancer Facts and Figures:
• In 2024, 19,160 women in New York will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Breast Cancer affects men too.
• There are more than 4 million breast cancer survivors in
the U.S. today, including those who have completed treatment and those still undergoing treatment. More than 150,000 of these survivors are living with metastatic breast cancer.
• The death rate from breast cancer dropped by 42% from 1989-2021 as a result of earlier detection through increased awareness and mammography screening, as well as advances in treatments.
o Despite this drop, Black women are 41% more likely to die of breast cancer than White women overall and are twice as likely to die if they
