TOWN OF BABYLON HOSTS SUCCESSFUL SMALL BUSINESS NETWORKING NIGHT
The Town of Babylon proudly hosted its inaugural Small Business Networking Night on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Babylon Town Hall, organized by Councilman Anthony Manetta and the Town of Babylon Chamber of Commerce Collaborative. This vibrant event brought together local entrepreneurs, business owners, and community members to foster connections and celebrate the spirit of small business in Babylon.

Sometimes life can become overwhelming. There are so many people who need help, but where do we even being?
When I think about ways to show my gratitude and of helping others, I think about the quote from Mother Teresa. I might not be able to feed every adult and child who are hungry today, but with your help, we can help feed some of them.
We can create a ripple effect. Someone in the next town will see what we doing, and they will start their own food or clothing drive... and then someone in the next town, and the town after that. Pretty soon, millions of people who needed support during a tough time in their lives will nd it. Hopefully, they can pay it forward when they have the means to do so.
Gratitude causes ripples, and ripples cause change. Let’s create some ripples this month for people who can use our help. Here are the details:
What: Thanksgiving Food Drive for St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.
Where: Our Lady of Perpetual Help Lindenhurst.
When: The month of October. All donations must be in by Saturday, November 2nd.

Lindenhurst Student-Musician Selected For Prestigious Music Festival
Lindenhurst High School violinist Julia Chu has been selected to take part in the annual NYSSMA All-State Festival this December. This selection recognizes Julia’s hard work and talent with her chosen musical instrument.
As part of this honor, Julia will perform in the All-State String Orchestra in the Violin 1 section, a position awarded to students who demonstrate exceptional proficiency in
their musical field. Each year, only 600 students from across the state are chosen for this prestigious festival. Julia earned her spot by achieving a perfect score of 100 on her NYSSMA All-State audition last spring.
Julia’s passion for the violin extends beyond school. She plays in the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra, and attended the Chamber Music Camp at Adelphi University over the summer, where she
served as concertmaster. Additionally, Julia is President of the Tri-M Music Honor Society at Lindenhurst High School.

Lindenhurst High School Senior Is National Merit Semifinalist
Lindenhurst High School is proud to announce that class of 2025 student Jake Albert has been named a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Competition. The competition honors students for academic achievement, and is exceedingly difficult to obtain; among 1.5 million applicants nationwide, Jake is one of only 16,000 to advance to the semifinals.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation identifies academically talented students across the United States. Students are selected based on their exceptional academic records, participation in school activities, and performance on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
In addition to his achievements in the classroom, Jake is also
an accomplished track athlete. During the spring 2024 season, he qualified for the state championships and was named to Newsday’s AllLong Island team. Most recently, the outlet listed him among Long Island’s top 25 boys cross country athletes for the fall season.
With this achievement, Jake will now compete for approximately 6,800 National Merit Scholarships to be awarded this spring, totaling more than $26 million.
“Jake is not only incredibly bright, but also an extremely dedicated young man,” said Lindenhurst High School Principal Dr. Matthew Boccanfuso. “This honor is well deserved, and I look forward to seeing what Jake will accomplish, not only in his senior year but also in his future beyond graduation.”

Town of Babylon Hosts Successful Small Business Networking Night
The Town of Babylon proudly hosted its inaugural Small Business Networking Night on Thursday, Sept. 19 at Babylon Town Hall, organized by Councilman Anthony Manetta and the Town of Babylon Chamber of Commerce
Collaborative. This vibrant event brought together local entrepreneurs, business owners, and community members to foster connections and celebrate the spirit of small business in Babylon.

music and entertainment from a DJ while sampling delicious offerings from an array of food trucks featuring BBQ, pasta, doughnuts, and coffee. Representatives from the Small Business Administration (SBA), PSEG, National Grid,
and various chambers of commerce were also on hand to provide valuable resources and support for local businesses.
Councilman Anthony Manetta expressed his gratitude, stating, “Thank you to everyone who
joined us, especially our hardworking Chambers of Commerce who contribute so much to our local community.” This successful event showcased the Town of Babylon’s commitment to supporting small businesses, promoting collaboration, and strengthening local economic growth.
The Town of Babylon looks forward to hosting more networking events in the future to continue nurturing the entrepreneurial spirit within the community.
The Lindenhurst Historical Society continues its celebration of the 1901 Restored LIRR Depot & Freight House Museum’s 50th Anniversary with a Sunday Morning Pancake Breakfast, October 13, 2024 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Lindenhurst Applebee’s Restaurant, 600 North Wellwood Avenue.
The 1901 Restored LIRR Depot & Freight House Museum located at Irmisch
Park (South Broadway and South Third Street) has been integral to the Village of Lindenhurst and the Historical Society’s mission to preserve and celebrate the Village’s history. In 1967, when it was learned that the Depot and Freight House stood in the way of the LIRR’s plans to eliminate grade crossings by elevating the Babylon line, the Lindenhurst Historical Society interceded. Rather
than demolishing the historic structure, the LIRR agreed to donate the structure to the Historical Society. In a joint effort with the Inc. Village of Lindenhurst, the building was moved to Irmisch Park where work ensued to separate the buildings and develop both as a museum complex dedicated to the premise that the railroad was a catalyst to the founding of our community in 1870, when the City of Breslau
was established. Museum renovations were completed in 1974 and the museum’s dedication and grand opening took place May 18, 1975.
The 50th Anniversary celebration kicked off earlier this year with the unveiling of a William G. Pomeroy Foundation Historic Transportation Marker which bears an inscription indicating the historic significance of the
1901 Restored LIRR Depot and Freight House. The celebration will continue into next spring when a Family Fun Day is being planned to commemorate the May 18, 1975 opening of the Depot and Freight House as a museum.

Family-Friendly Volunteering Opportunities
back together. Kids of all ages can pitch in on a food drive. Parents can take children to the grocery store and let them pick items to donate. Kids also can accompany their parents to pick up donated items and drop them off at the local food bank.
• Toy drive: Toy drives are popular come the holiday season, and children of all ages may enjoy picking items that they know will help to make the holiday season special for other youngsters. If toy drive organizers don't request specific items, ask kids which toys they would recommend or encourage kids to donate lightly used items they no longer use. Children are enthusiastic givers, and toy drives are a great opportunity to illustrate how good it feels to help those in need.
• Park/beach cleanups: Human
beings are stewards of the environment, so what better way to instill that lesson in children than to volunteer to clean up local parks and beaches? Kids will look forward to a day in the great outdoors, and they'll take pride in

• Soup kitchens: Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks, cited
a recent study that found 67 percent of food banks were in need of volunteers. Many volunteers, a significant percentage of which are seniors, stopped volunteering during the COVID-19 pandemic out of fear
of catching the virus.
Volunteering at food banks can teach children valuable lessons about the importance of giving back, and many food banks have altered their operations to make it safe for all volunteers to lend a helping hand.
Bird Walk at Point Lookout Town Park and Lido Preserve October 6
Join the South Shore
Audubon Society on a bird walk on Sunday, October 6, starting at 9 AM, at Point Lookout Town Park; and afterwards at the Lido Beach Passive Nature Area . The group will meet in the southeast corner of the large parking lot on the south side of Point Lookout Town Park and will walk east along the
beach toward Jones Inlet. After the beach walk, we will return to the parking lot, and drive west on Lido Boulevard to Lido Beach Passive Nature Preserve to walk through the bay marsh. The Preserve is on the north side of Lido Boulevard. All are welcome. Walk leaders and other birders and nature enthusiasts will be happy to share their knowledge and experience with you. The bird walk is free of charge. Bring binoculars. Rain will cancel the bird walk.
