Southeast Nassau Guidance Center Partners On Award-Winning Film

When seemingly happy, travel-infatuated veteran CJ Twomey violently ended his own life at age 20, his family was plunged into unrelenting grief and guilt. In a moment of desperate inspiration, his mother Hallie put out an open call on Facebook, looking only for a handful of travelers who might help fulfill her son’s wish to see the world by scattering some of his ashes in a place of beauty or special meaning. Her heartfelt request struck a chord, creating a global online community of tens of thousands congregating in solidarity and empathy and inspiring more than 1,000 “scatterers” who documented the delivery of CJ’s ashes to locations on everyScatteringcontinent. CJ, the documentaryaward-winningaboutHallie Twomey’s healing mission, is coming to public television in September, during National Suicide Prevention Month. The film, which has sparked essential conversations about mental health and suicide prevention, is sponsored in part by Southeast Nassau Guidance Center, with locations in Seaford and Wantagh. SNG helped fund the creation of a screening guide and discussion questions that can accompany screenings and community events, the creation of a Spanishsubtitled version of the film and making the film ADA compliant through closed captions and Descriptive Video Track. Cafe, grew up in a working-class family, where money was tight and food insecurity was sometimes a cause of stress. Her vision for this organization is to have a storefront cafe that will serve healthy meals based upon a donation model. Although they do not have a physical cafe yet, since they started in 2016, they have hosted countless “meal events”, primarily at the VFW Hall on Edwards Street in Patchogue. Their meal events are socially engaging events, usually running for about 2.5 hours multiple times a month. They are meant to bring the community together, while serving anyone who attends a fresh healthy meal. This nonproﬁt is also licensed to offer the FEAST Program. The FEAST Program is a comprehensive health program, which offers in-person classes. FEAST stands for Food Education, Access, Support and Together. “We at Harmony Cafe believe that a healthy life consists of whole foods, whole people and whole communities,” said Rosemarie. “However, many people don’t have access to healthy fresh food, don’t have a strong support system and feel isolated from the community. Unhealthy diets is among some of the key contributors to the dramatic rise in obesity and dietary diseases affecting people in our country today. In order to address these issues, the FEAST Program serves parents or heads or households through our comprehensive 12-week Wellness Program. It is a very successful program!” Their next FEAST Program begins on September 13, 2022 and will take place at their ofﬁce, located at 20 Medford Avenue, Suite 108, Patchogue, NY 11772 from 6:00PM8:00PM. The Charity of the Month for September is Harmony Cafe

Ruth Dulcide White Liebl, formerly of Lindenhurst, died July 3, 2022, at Page Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Fort Myers, Florida. Ruth was the wife of the late Otto Matthias Liebl whose family owned and operated Liebl Hardware store in Lindenhurst for decades. She was 91 years old.Following the sale of the hardware store, the couple retired to Cape Coral, Florida in 2002. Mr. Liebl died on December 20, 2014. In preparation for being separated by death, Ruth and Otto requested that once they were both gone, they be buried together for eternity. The soulmates will have this wish fulfilled on September 17 in Saint Charles Cemetery, Farmingdale. A private service will be held. The family was assisted by Fuller Metz Cremation and Funeral Services of Cape Coral, Florida.

Section 1. Purpose. The purpose of this Local Law is to extend the expiration date of Local Law 2 of 2020 from August 11, 2022 to August 11, 2023. The purpose of Local Law 2 of 2020 and this Local Law is to promote and protect the public health, safety and welfare of the Village of Lindenhurst by enacting a local law which establishes a moratorium on certain uses in the Business District between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m.

The Village Board of Trustees had enacted the moratorium so that it might have sufficient opportunity to evaluate the permitted uses in the Business District and their hours of operation and determine whether the hours of operation of permitted uses in the Business District should be statutorily amended, altered, modified, expanded or repealed as part and parcel of a plan to continue to revitalize the area without negatively impacting its residential neighbors. That moratorium is set to expire on August 11, 2022 and must be extended to allow the aforestated review to continue. An extension to the moratorium would also permit the Board of Trustees to consider whether buffer zones or distance restrictions are appropriate. This extended moratorium will provide an opportunity for the Village Board of Trustees to evaluate the Code changes needed without the possibility of new businesses opening that might conflict with the plan being Thedeveloped.Village Board has, therefore, determined that an extension to the moratorium be established prohibiting any new permitted uses which operate between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. in the Business District. This moratorium shall be geographically limited in application to all properties within the Business District zoning classification. Numerous new projects have enhanced the appearance and character of the Business District Village wide. The Board of Trustees finds that careful consideration is also required to ensure the compatibility of Business District with the surrounding residential community. The competitive local business environment is spawning more and more businesses, in particular, a proliferation of business whose primary business purpose is massage. The Board is concerned that given the Business District’s close proximity to residential areas that certain businesses of this nature are of such a character that they will detrimentally impact the quality of life of the surrounding businesses and residences. The Board finds that such uses are often the source of criminal activity, such as unlicensed practice and prostitution resulting in quality of life complaints. These complaints negatively impact a community. As such, particular consideration must be given as to the regulation of massage related business Theoperations.Board of Trustees enacts this moratorium so that it might have sufficient opportunity to evaluate the permitted uses in the Business District and determine whether the use of Massage Parlors and Foot Spas should be statutorily amended, altered, modified, expanded, or repealed as part and parcel of a plan to continue to revitalize the area without negatively impacting the community.
