On Tuesday, June 18th, the Lindenhurst American Little League was presented with the “Pride of Lindenhurst” award by the Lindenhurst School Board. This award was given to the Lindenhurst American Little League for “Outstanding Service to the Lindenhurst School

The award was presented on behalf of the Board by Trustee Michael DiGiusepe to the Board of Directors of Lindenhurst American.

On hand to accept the award were President Robert Pacheco, Exec VP Robert Guarini, VP Baseball James McGrath,

Lindenhurst High School Celebrates The Class Of 2024

Lindenhurst High School recently celebrated its annual senior awards.

This special event recognized students from the Lindenhurst High School class of 2024 who went above and beyond in their studies and

community leadership, as well as their athletic and artistic endeavors.

The ceremony celebrated the accomplishments of roughly 175 students in nearly 200 awards categories for everything from earning the Seal of

Biliteracy, to achievements in the fine and performing arts, as well as various scholarships.

“Congratulations to these distinguished seniors for their well-earned recognitions,” said Interim Superintendent of Schools

Vincent Caravana. “The sheer variety of talent and dedication these students have displayed is astounding, and we wish them the best of luck in their lives after high school.”

New Parking Meter Kiosks On Wellwood

To serve you better, the Village of Lindenhurst is upgrading its parking meters on Wellwood Avenue to touch-screen parking meter kiosks that accept both coins and credit cards. In addition, we are introducing “Pay-by-App” and “Pay-by-Text” options that will allow customers to pay without using the kiosk!

As part of this new system, most parking spaces on Wellwood will be numbered, and to begin any parking transaction, customers must enter their space number. Customers parking in a numbered space must use a new parking kiosk, or their smartphones (pay-by-app or pay-by-text), to pay for parking. Customers

Parking times and fees remain the same as before -- all meters are in effect Monday through Saturday from 9AM to 9PM; $0.25 per hour/3-hour maximum. The “Go Live” date for North Wellwood Avenue is 6/19. The South Wellwood

parking in non-numbered spaces with an old-style parking meter should continue to use the old meter as they do today.

Also, 15-minute free “in-and-out” spaces will remain on both North and South Wellwood!

Here are some additional instructions related to the new meters:

Creativity Through A Zen Mindset

“Creativity through a Zen Mindset” is a free workshop offered by the Adelphi NY Breast Cancer Program to women and men who have been affected by breast cancer. The in-person meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 16, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Adelphi University in Garden City.

At the workshop participants will learn ways to achieve a “Zen mindset,” completing several art activities influenced by Japanese culture that

promote calmness, simplicity and self-growth. The group will work with a variety of techniques and mediums and will experience a guided Zen meditation. All levels of artistic ability are invited to join.

Facilitators are social worker Angela Papalia, LMSW, Assistant Director of the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program, and artist Kimberly Newman, BFA, Marketing and Communications Director, Adelphi Breast Cancer Program.

Daniel Street Students End The School Year With Kindness

The students at Daniel Street Elementary School recently took part in a special “kindness rock” afterschool activity. The event invited the students and their parents or caregivers to paint special messages of kindness on

small stones. It was the culmination of a year of character education activities at the school.

Students were provided stones and paint markers and encouraged to draw messages of kindness in whatever creative way they

could envision. The activity was inspired by Scribble Stones, a children’s book by Diane Alber. After the students completed their stones, they were treated to a special read-aloud of the book.

Daniel Street students engaged in activities such as character education choice boards, read-alouds, and activities aimed at nurturing the development of admirable character qualities. The kindness rock event served as a year-

end culmination of these activities, and gave the students an opportunity to express the character quality of kindness in their own unique ways.

Students were encouraged to bring their stones home, and

help continue spreading kindness, and some students chose to donate their rocks to the school to be placed out front or in the school garden. The event was organized by the Daniel Street Compact Committee.

Lindenhurst Welcomes German Firefighters To Annual Parade & Drill

Mother Nature provided a spectacular day for the annual Lindenhurst Fire Department Invitational Parade & Drill. Fire

Departments from across Long Island came to Lindenhurst to participate, and enjoy a day of festivities and thrilling drill

competition. This year, the parade was extra special since the LFD invited a group of Firefighters from Germany to march

alongside them.

Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “It was a sight to behold, with so many firefighters marching in formation,

accompanied by marching bands, and followed by fire trucks and rescue vehicles. I also had the honor, along with LFD Chief David

Collins, to present the German firefighters with a proclamation welcoming them to our Lindenhurst community.”
