TOWN PRESENTS HEROISM AWARD TO LINDENHURST EX-CHIEF - On Wednesday, April 26th, Supervisor Schaffer and the Town Board recognized Lindenhurst Fire Dept. ExChief Michael DeGregorio for his heroic actions last month at the Lindenhurst Middle School. DeGregorio’s past training as chief and also his career with NYPD ESU kicked in as he used his own belt to makeshift and apply a tourniquet to save the life of a young stabbing victim in Lindenhurst. Councilman Terence McSweeney who also chairs the Town of Babylon’s public safety dept. was on hand and applauded Mr. DeGregorio’s actions.

Food Drive In Partnership With Island Harvest To Attack Hunger On Long Island

New York State Assemblyman Michael Durso (Massapequa Park), in coordination with Village of Babylon Mayor Mary Adams, Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Suffolk County Legislator Kevin McCaffrey, and New York State Senator Alexis Weik, have partnered with Island Harvest to hold a Food Collection Drive on Saturday, May 20th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in the north parking lot of the

Babylon Train Station.

Assemblyman Durso is asking local residents and community organizations to kindly donate nonperishable foods, personal care items & toiletries, household items, and baby supplies. All items collected will be donated to Island Harvest and distributed to community-based non-profit organizations, veterans, families, individuals and seniors.

“Close to 300,000 Long

Islanders, including children, veterans, and seniors, are food insecure and hungry,” said Durso. “Inflation, record high food and gas prices along with the high cost of living have drastically increased the need for food assistance. The sun was not shining down on the Lindenhurst American Little League (LALL) Opening Day ceremonies, but the smiles were on the children’s faces, making Opening Day a joyous community event. Marking the official start of

the Little League baseball season, the Opening Day festivities began with the traditional parade to Babylon Town Hall.

The Opening Day ceremony included the new LALL President Robert Pacheco thanking

2023 Summer Recreation Program Lottery

The Village of Lindenhurst is holding a lottery for spots at its annual Summer Recreation Program at the Village Park (located at the intersection of Irmisch and N. Alleghany Avenues). Lindenhurst you who are eligible to attend the Lindenhurst School District may enter the lottery, as long as they will have completed kindergarten by this June. Camp begins July 5 and continues through August 15.

Age groups are as follows: 5 – 7 year olds, 8 – 9 year olds, and 10 -14 years olds. Camp is in session from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

The Charity of the Month for May is LI Music & Entertainment Hall of Fame

The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF)

is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which encompasses New York State’s Nassau, Su olk, Queens, and Kings (Brooklyn) Counties, was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. LIMEHOF, located in Stony Brook, is heavily engrossed in our local communities and o ers Long Islanders many ways to get involved.

Since 2004, their organization has Inducted over 120 music artists and related professionals who are now recognized in their new Stony Brook location. In addition to their large exhibition area, theater and o cial “Hall of Fame Museum”, the 8,800 square foot building is home to a beautiful performance area. They’re open Wednesdays-Sundays from 12 noon through 5pm. Admission prices are: Adult $19.50, Seniors (65+) and Veterans $17.00, Students (w/ID) $15.00. Children under 12 are free. Tickets and now gift cards can be purchased online and at the door.

Lindenhurst Fire Department 2023 Installation Dinner

The Lindenhurst Fire Department recently held their 184th Installation of Officers and Recognition Dinner. Congratulations to our newly-elected Lindenhurst Fire Department Officers, Chief of the Department David Collins, First Assistant Chief Robert Santos, Second Assistant Chief Jonathan Cutolo, Third Assistant Chief David Brink, Secretary Charles Vozzo, and Treasurer Sarah-Marie Callahan.

Mayor Lavorata thanked outgoing Chief Michael DeGregorio for his many years of hard work and selfless dedication to the Lindenhurst Community as Chief of the Department, and congratulated David Collins for his installation as the new Chief.

Mayor Lavorata said, “Chief Michael DeGregorio and Chief David Collins have both shown great leadership over the past few years, always willing to help train and share their knowledge with others. Both Chiefs helped guide the Lindenhurst Fire Department through the pandemic, keeping all responders safe while continuing to respond to calls.”

Deputy Mayor RJ Renna, who installed the 2023 Lindenhurst Fire Department Officers, added, “I thank the members of the Lindenhurst Fire Department for their continued selfless and dedicated service to the people of the Lindenhurst community.”
