2023 Summer Recreation Program Lottery

The Village of Lindenhurst is holding a lottery for spots at its annual Summer Recreation Program at the Village Park (located at the intersection of Irmisch and N. Alleghany Avenues). Lindenhurst you who are eligible to attend the Lindenhurst School District may enter

the lottery, as long as they will have completed kindergarten by this June. Camp begins July 5 and continues through August 15.

Age groups are as follows: 5 – 7 year olds, 8 – 9 year olds, and 10 -14 years olds. Camp is in session from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Please see the Village website (villageoflindenhurstny. gov) or Facebook for the lottery application. Lottery applications are due no later than May 22, 2023. Applicants will be notified of selection via email at the beginning of June.

Presents Heroism Award To Lindenhurst Ex-Chief

TOWN PRESENTS HEROISM AWARD TO LINDENHURST EX-CHIEF - On

Wednesday, April 26th, Supervisor Schaffer and the Town Board recognized Lindenhurst Fire Dept. Ex-Chief Michael DeGregorio for his heroic actions last month at the Lindenhurst Middle School. DeGregorio’s past training as chief and also his career with NYPD ESU kicked in as he used his own belt to makeshift and apply a tourniquet to save the life of a young stabbing victim in Lindenhurst. DeGregorio was working at the middle school as a security guard when he sprung into action. Councilman Terence McSweeney who also chairs the Town of Babylon’s public safety dept. was on hand and applauded Mr. DeGregorio’s actions adding, “What would this world look like without our 1st responders?” McSweeney said the town awarded Ex-chief DeGregorio with its Heroism award which is the highest award the town of Babylon offers.

SALMON RUN AWARD - Salmon Run Award for Cub Scout Pack Number 1421 is for swimming and boating advancement and recipients will receive belt loops upon completion. This course was given at The Moose Lodge in Lindenhurst by members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 1-4: Joan M. Masterson, Gary Lerner, Dawn Masterson and JoEllen Koestner-Krut. SCVOA Honors Babylon Town Supervisor Schaffer

The Suffolk County Village Officials Association (SCVOA) honored Town of Babylon Supervisor Richard Schaffer with this year’s Outstanding Leadership Award. The award recognizes Supervisor Schaffer’s commitment to working together with the Villages of the Town of Babylon and the leadership of Suffolk County. Supervisor

Schaffer joins the ranks of many outstanding leaders throughout Suffolk County who have previously received this award, including Suffolk County Sherriff Erol D. Toulon, former New York State Senator Phil Boyle, Brookhaven Town Supervisor Ed Romaine, and Suffolk County Legislature Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey.

Lindenhurst Mayor Michael Lavorata, who assisted in making the presentation of the award, said “Supervisor Richard Schaffer is making a difference and has proven that local governments can work together, across party lines, to reach heights of excellence,  and perform the extraordinary for our constituents.”

The Long Island Music and Entertainment Hall of Fame (LIMEHOF) is a 501(c) (3) organization dedicated to the idea that Long Island’s musical heritage is an important resource to be celebrated and preserved for future generations. The organization, which encompasses New York State’s Nassau, Su olk, Queens, and Kings (Brooklyn) Counties, was created as a place of community that inspires and explores Long Island music in all its forms. LIMEHOF, located in Stony Brook, is heavily engrossed in our local communities and o ers Long Islanders many ways to get involved.

The Hall of Fame is now accepting applications for their 2023 Student Scholarship program, where they will award $500 scholarships to graduating students. These scholarships will provide funding for eligible graduating high school students from Nassau, Su olk, Brooklyn, Queens, or Kings (Brooklyn) Counties who have shown an interest in pursuing a career in music.

Town of Babylon’s 150th Anniversary Parade

A little rain could not dampen any spirits as the Town of Babylon hosted its long-awaited 150th Anniversary parade! Headed off by Town Historian Mary Cascone and Town of Babylon Parks, the parade included floats dedicated to the history of each hamlet and village that make up the Town. Supervisor Rich Schaffer and the town board led the parade in the 150th commemorative float and stood by in the rain to waive to each hamlet as they marched on by.

Rev. Douglas Madlon said, “This production of “Godspell” has enough heart to warm the hearts of non-believers and cynics. I loved the colorful costumes, choreography, the solos and live band. In short, “Godspell” was one of the best community theater shows I have seen so far this year.”

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a Public Hearing of the qualified voters of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District, Town of Babylon, Suffolk County, New York will be held at the McKenna Administration Building, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York, in said District on MAY 10, 2023, at 8:00 p.m., prevailing time, for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law, including the following items:

1. To present to the voters a detailed statement (proposed budget) of the amount of money which will be required for the 2023 - 24 fiscal year.

2. To discuss all the items hereinafter set forth to be voted upon by voting machines at the Budget Vote and Election to be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

3. To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting pursuant to Education Law of the State of New York and acts amendatory thereto.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law, the School District is required to attach to its proposed budget an exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how much of the total assessed value on the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation, list every type of exemption granted, identified by statutory authority, and show:

(a) the cumulative impact of each type of exemption expressed either as a dollar amount of assessed value or as a percentage of the total assessed value on the roll;

(b) the cumulative amount expected to be received from recipients of each type of exemption as payments in lieu of taxes or other payments

for municipal services; and

(c) the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. The exemption report shall be posted on any bulletin board maintained by the District for public notices and on any website maintained by the District.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at her office at the District Administration Office, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York, not later than April 17, 2023, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., prevailing time. Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District; must be signed by at least 48 qualified voters of the District (representing the greater of 25 qualified voters or 2% of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election); must state the name and residence of each signer, and, must state the name and residence of the candidate and shall describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated.
