SUFFOLK COUNTY KNIGHTS FREE THROW - The Suffolk County Knights of Columbus Councils held their Free Throw Contest county championship at Central Islip High School. The event had over 50 contestants compete to move on to the Long Island Regional Championship. The event was chaired by OLPH Knight Michael Hearney with support from the Board of District Deputies, Suffolk Chapter, and Grand Knights. Rebuilding Together

Long Island (RTLI) is a nonprofit organization, headquartered in Farmingdale, serving Nassau County and most of Su olk County. As an a liate of the national organization, Rebuilding Together, their mission is repairing homes, revitalizing communities and rebuilding lives.

To accomplish their vision of safe and healthy homes for everyone, they provide free essential home safety repairs and modifications for economicallydisadvantaged homeowners, whether they are older adults, veterans, families or persons with a disability or limited mobility.

Security and comfort should come to mind when we think of home...but what if your home didn’t make you feel that way? Maybe there’s no heat or hot water for your family, or your doors don’t lock so you prop a chair under the doorknob each night. When you’re living on a fixed or low income, making repairs or modifications is typically just a wish, not a reality. Homeowners know that taking care of small problems today can help avert larger, more costly problems tomorrow and this is where Rebuilding Together Long Island can come into play and help out! For more than 30 years, RTLI has focused on improving the living conditions of our neighbors and fulfilling those dreams of a safe, warm and accessible home.

Primarily a volunteer organization, they are neighbors helping neighbors and there is never a charge. From minor to sometimes major repairs, they improve the safety, health and well-being of every household. From handyman type repairs to modifications for our aging population and those with physical limitations, they’re ready to lend a hand.

Donates Another Wheelchair

Recent studies have shown that for people 65 and older, falls account for approximately 60 percent of all injury-related emergency department visits and over 50 percent of injuryrelated deaths annually. Also, up to 80 percent of falls in the home occur in the bathroom. RTLI can install grab bars and ADA height toilets, widens doorways where possible and can even have bathtubs converted to walk-in showers. Wheelchair ramps are one of their most requested modifications and can be constructed in two days. So how can you help?

•If you know someone who may benefit from their services, have them call the RTLI o ce at 631.777.7894, Monday – Friday, to see if they qualify for the free program.

•Join the RTLI team! Volunteers can sign up at rebuildingtogetherli.org/ volunteer-today. Currently they are looking for individuals who are fluent in Spanish and for an o ce person, particularly if they are familiar with Salesforce. Additionally, if you are handy with tools, the Nassau and Su olk crew teams are always looking for more help.

•Donate at rebuildingtogetherli. org. RTLI relies on the donations of our neighbors, some grants and corporate sponsorships, as they do not receive any government funding.

•RTLI encourages local business to get involved and sponsor a project. The organization can find the right project for your business to sponsor and you can then promote your generosity on social media to show your commitment to improving the health and safety of someone in need locally.

When we work together, we can bring about transformational change quickly in our communities.

As the Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) gets ready to kick off its Spring Season in our 10 leagues from Long Island to the Canadian border, the growth of our programs has created a need for additional referees and assistant refs.

There are many wonderful things that happen when a person starts to ref including earning money, having the best view of the action, learning to manage people, learning more about the game, staying or becoming fit, expanding yourself by leaving your comfort zone as well as meeting the greatest people on soccer fields, including your new officiating colleagues. Becoming a youth soccer ref could be one of the best decisions you ever make!

Eastern New York is seeking new referees to be in the middle and/or on the line as assistant referees in youth soccer games. The minimum age is 14 years old to become certified. Classes are happening throughout the state and they consist of an online learning process wrapped up by a field session. With approximately 100,000 youth soccer players––both boys and girls––and more than 25,000 volunteers, the non-profit Eastern New York Youth Soccer Association (ENYYSA) stretches from Montauk Point, Long Island to the Canadian border. Members are affiliated with 10

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING BUDGET VOTE AND ELECTION OF THE LINDENHURST UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT LINDENHURST, SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a Public Hearing of the qualified voters of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District, Town of Babylon, Suffolk County, New York will be held at the McKenna Administration Building, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York, in said District on May 3, 2023, at 8:00 p.m., prevailing time, for the transaction of business as authorized by the Education Law, including the following items:

1. To present to the voters a detailed statement (proposed budget) of the amount of money which will be required for the 2023 - 24 fiscal year.

2. To discuss all the items hereinafter set forth to be voted

upon by voting machines at the Budget Vote and Election to be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

3. To transact such other business as may properly come before the meeting pursuant to Education Law of the State of New York and acts amendatory thereto.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that said Budget Vote and Election will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., prevailing time, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine upon the following items:

1. To adopt the annual budget of the School District for the fiscal year 2023 - 24 and to authorize the requisite portion thereof to be raised by taxation on the taxable property of the District.

2. To elect one (1) member of the Board of Education for a three-year term commencing July 1, 2023, and expiring on June 30, 2026, to succeed Gabrielle Anzalone, whose term expires on June 30, 2023.

3. To elect one (1) member of the Board of Education for a three-year term commencing July 1, 2023, and expiring on June 30, 2026, to succeed Michael DiGiuseppe, whose term expires on June 30, 2023.

4. To elect one (1) member of the Board of Education for a three-year term commencing July 1, 2023, and expiring on June 30, 2026, to succeed Josephine Martino, whose term expires on June 30, 2023.

5. To elect one (1) member of the Board of Education for a one-year term for the remainder of the unexpired term that expires on June 30, 2024 to fill the vacant seat previously held by Kevin Garbe, which commences immediately upon the successful candidate being elected and duly qualified.

6. ADVISORY PROPOSITION

(please note that the following proposition is advisory only and not binding upon the Board of Education):

Should the Board of Education increase the maximum income for eligibility for both the Real Property Tax Exemption for Persons with Disabilities and Limited Incomes and the Real Property Tax Exemption for Persons Age 65 and Older up to the maximum allowable amount under New York State Law of $58,400.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that a copy of the detailed statement in writing of the amount of money which will be required for the 2023 - 24 school year for school purposes (the proposed budget), will be made available, upon request, to any resident of the District between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. beginning April 26, 2023, except Saturday, Sunday or holidays, at the District Administration Office, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York, at each schoolhouse in the District, on the District’s website at www. lindenhurstschools.org, and at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to Section 495 of the Real Property Tax Law, the School District is required to attach to its proposed budget an exemption report. Said exemption report, which will also become part of the final budget, will show how much of the total assessed value on the final assessment roll used in the budgetary process is exempt from taxation, list every type of exemption granted, identified by statutory authority, and show:

(a) the cumulative impact of each type of exemption expressed either as a dollar amount of assessed value or as a percentage of the total assessed value on the roll;

(b) the cumulative amount expected to be received from recipients of each type of exemption as payments in lieu of taxes or other payments for municipal services; and (

c) the cumulative impact of all exemptions granted. The exemption report shall be posted on any bulletin board maintained by the District for public notices and on any website maintained by the District.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that petitions nominating candidates for the office of member of the Board of Education shall be filed with the Clerk of said School District at her office at the District Administration Office, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York, not later than April 17, 2023, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., prevailing time. Each petition shall be directed to the Clerk of the District; must be signed by at least 48 qualified voters of the District (representing the greater of 25 qualified voters or 2% of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election); must state the name and residence of each signer, and, must state the name and residence of the

candidate and shall describe the specific vacancy for which the candidate is nominated. Each vacancy upon the Board of Education to be filled shall be considered separate specific vacancies. A separate nominating petition is required to nominate a candidate to each separate specific office. The petition shall describe at least the length of the term of office and contain the name of the last incumbent.

IS HEREBY GIVEN, that personal registration of voters is required either pursuant to §2014 of the Education Law or pursuant to Article 5 of the Election Law. If a voter has heretofore registered pursuant to §2014 of the Education Law and has voted at an annual or special district meeting within the last four (4) calendar years, he or she is eligible to vote at this election. If a voter is registered and eligible to vote under Article 5 of the Election Law, he or she is also eligible to vote at this election. All other persons who wish to vote must register.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that military voters who are not currently registered may apply to register as a qualified voter of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District by requesting and returning a registration application to the District Clerk by mail to the Office of the District Clerk, in-person at the District Administration Office, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York 11757, by email to the District Clerk at dmilone@lufsd.org, or fax sent to 631-867-3008. The request for the registration application may include the military voter’s preference for receipt of the registration application by either mail, fax or email. Military voter registration application forms must be received in the office of the District Clerk no later than 5 :00 p.m. on April 20, 2023.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that military voters who are qualified voters of the Lindenhurst Union Free School District may request an application for a military ballot from the District Clerk by mail to the Office of the District Clerk, at the District Administration Office, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York 11757, by email to the District Clerk at dmilone@ lufsd.org, or fax sent to 631867-3008. In such request, the military voter may indicate their preference for receiving the application by mail, fax or email. A military voter must return the original military ballot application by mail or

In order for a military voter to be issued a military ballot, a valid military ballot application must be received in the office of the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 20, 2023. Military ballot applications received in accordance with the foregoing will be processed in the same manner as a non-military ballot application under §2018-a of the Education Law. The application for military ballots may include the military voter’s preference for receipt of the military ballot by mail, fax or email.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, a military voter’s original military ballot must be returned by mail or in-person to the office of the District Clerk at the District Administration Office, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York 11757. Military ballots shall be canvassed if they are received by the District Clerk before 5 :00 p.m. on May 16, 2023 showing a cancellation mark of the United States Postal Service or a foreign country’s postal service, or showing a dated endorsement of receipt by another agency of the United States Government; or received not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 16, 2023 and signed and dated by the military voter and one witness thereto, with a date which is ascertained to be not later than the day before the election.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that walk-in voter registration is conducted daily on any day that the office is open, at the Office of the School District Clerk, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., prevailing time, Monday through Friday; and following the Regular Business Meetings of the Board of Education on April 12, 2023 and May 3, 2023 (or any adjourned date thereof), at which time any person will be entitled to have his or her name placed on such Register, provided that he or she is known or proven to the satisfaction of said District Clerk to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at such election for which the register is prepared, except that no registration will be permitted for purposes of voting at the May 16, 2023 annual school district election after Thursday, May 11, 2023. AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to §2014 of the Education Law of the State of New York, the Board of Registration will meet on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., prevailing time, at the polling places designated herein, to prepare the Register of the School District to be used at the Budget Vote and Election to be held in 2024, and any special district meetings that may be held after the preparation of said Register, at which time any person will be entitled to have his or her name placed on such Register provided that at such meeting of said Board of Registration he or she is known or proven to the satisfaction of such Board of Registration to be then or thereafter entitled to vote at the school election for which said Register is prepared, or any special district meeting held after May 16, 2023.

IS HEREBY GIVEN, that applications for absentee ballots may be submitted during school business hours to the District Clerk beginning April 17, 2023; completed applications must be received by the District Clerk at least seven (7) days before the election if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election, if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m., prevailing time, on Tuesday, May 16, 2023.

A list of persons to whom absentee ballots are issued will be available for inspection to qualified voters of the District in the office of the District Clerk on and after May 11, 2023 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on weekdays prior to the day set for the annual election and on May 16, 2023, the day set for the election. Any qualified voter may, upon examination of such list, file a written

challenge of the qualifications as a voter of any person whose name appears on such list, stating the reasons for such challenge. Any such written challenge shall be transmitted by the District Clerk or a designee of the Board of Education to the inspectors of election on election day.

AND FURTHER NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that pursuant to a rule adopted by the Board of Education in accordance with §2035 of the Education Law, any referenda or propositions to change the number of Board of Education members, or any other petition required by law to be stated in the Notice of Annual Meeting and Election, must be filed with the District Clerk, at the District Office, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York on or before March 17, 2023 at 4:00 p.m., prevailing time, and any other petition, except those petitions required by law to be stated in the Notice of Annual Meeting and Election, must be filed with the District Clerk, at the District Office, 350 Daniel Street, Lindenhurst, New York on or before April 17, 2023; all petitions must be typed or printed in the English language; must be directed to the Clerk of the School District; must be signed by at least 48 qualified voters of the District (representing the greater of 25 qualified voters or 2% of the number of voters who voted in the previous annual election); and must legibly state the name of each signer.
