The Argyle Theatre (Mark and Dylan Perlman, Executive Producers & Managing Partners; Evan Pappas, Artistic Director), Long Island’s largest year-round professional theatrical venue, will present A Christmas Carol The Musical, directed by Evan Pappas and Debbie Roshe, choreographed by Debbie Roshe, with musical direction by Jonathan Brenner. Include foods and comforts from home.
· Buy from veterans. Seek out veteran-owned businesses in the area, and then make purchases from their retail stores or utilize their services.
· Ask a veteran to speak. If you work in a school or a community center, ask veterans to share their experiences with area youth.
Veterans Day is Novemeber 11. Community-wide events tend to be held on that day, but any day of the year is a good time to pay respect to veterans. On a local level, people can do much to thank veterans for their service and sacrifice.
· Provide a free restaurant meal. Offer to take out a veteran for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you see a veteran eating in a restaurant, anonymously pay the bill for that person.
· Send care packages. Communities can gather resources and chip in to make care packages for veterans who live in town, and even to send to troops stationed elsewhere.
· Volunteer at a VA hospital. Spend time with veterans where they receive care for current health needs or past injuries suffered in combat.
· Participate in a parade. If your town hosts a Veterans Day parade, find out how you can volunteer or be a part of it. Oftentimes parade officials enable youth groups, such as high school marching bands or scouting troops, to participate in the parade.
· Write to a publication. Write an op-ed or highlight piece to submit to a local newspaper about veterans in the community. Mention local veterans who have unique stories, or speak about the importance of veterans to the community.
· Visit local memorials. Spend time visiting memorials nearby and paying homage to the veterans who devoted their time, or even their lives, to service.
Lindenhurst Middle Schoolers Honored for Achievement, Character
A group of Lindenhurst Middle School students were recently honored with the Lindenhurst Middle School’s Breakfast of Champions award. This recognition celebrates students who demonstrate exceptional personal character, academic achievement, and serve as positive role models for their peers.
The Breakfast of Champions program, a longstanding tradition for over 25 years, is a collaboration between the middle school and the Lindenhurst Memorial Library. Award recipients are invited to a special breakfast at the library with their teachers, parents, and principal.
“One of the many benefits of having such a close-knit and supportive
community in Lindenhurst is the opportunity to come together and recognize our talented and kind students,” said Principal Marcy Miller. “The longrunning Breakfast of Champions program is just one example of this. I extend my sincerest congratulations to the latest middle school students who have earned this honor.”
Lindenhurst High School Senior Is A Commended Student
Lindenhurst High School senior Sheyla Santos Collado has been recognized as a Commended Student in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Competition. The honor is bestowed upon seniors who have shown exceptional academic talent and hard work.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation identifies academically talented students across the United States based on their outstanding academic records, involvement in school activities, and performance on the Preliminary SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Out of 1.5 million students nationwide who entered the competition for the 2024-2025 school year, Sheyla is among just 34,000 to receive the Commended Student
designation. This honor earns them a letter of recognition for use in college applications and makes them eligible for additional scholarships.
“Sheyla is such a talented and hardworking student, and this recognition is extremely well deserved,” Sheyla’s guidance counselor, Allison Hocoluk, said. “Any college will be lucky to have her.”

Sen. Martinez Announces State Funds To Help Libraries Enhance Facilities
Several libraries serving the New York State Senate’s Fourth Senatorial District will soon be turning a new page as they improve their facilities to better serve patrons. State Sen. Monica R. Martinez announced today that the Babylon, Deer Park, West Babylon, and West Islip public libraries have been awarded more than $410,000 through the State Aid for Library

Construction program to make critical infrastructure improvements. These upgrades will allow the libraries to remain welcoming and functional spaces for the community.
“Much like a well-read book whose binding and pages wear down over time, so too does the physical library building,” said Sen. Martinez. “These renovations will ensure these community centers stack up to the demands
placed on them and provide safer, more accessible spaces where everyone can learn, connect, and grow. I’m proud to support these efforts to keep our libraries running smoothly for all who visit them.”
More than half of New York’s public library buildings are over 60 years old, with many others facing challenges such as outdated infrastructure and limited accessibility. The State Aid for Library Construction program addresses these issues by providing critical support to modernize facilities so they can continue serving their communities effectively. The 2023-2024 state budget allocated $34 million in capital funds for public library construction, with some projects receiving up to 75% of eligible costs. These funds help libraries upgrade their spaces and adapt to evolving community needs, including projects that enhance heating and cooling systems, improve broadband access, create spaces for community activities, and make other essential renovations to ensure they remain welcoming, energyefficient, and fully accessible.

The North Babylon Lions Club will be hosting Bark in the Park at Birch Pavilion Belmont State Park. 5K Walk, dog costume contest, food, beverages, music, raffles, pet and gift vendors, $10 donation for each dog and walker, All proceeds will benefit the Guide Dog Foundation. A CHRISTMAS CAROL
The Historical Society of Islip Hamlet and the Islip Public Library will co-host a showing of Gerald Charles Dickens movie, "A Christmas Carol". Mr. Dickens is the great-great-grandson of Charles Dickens and he performs his one-man show in Rochester, England, where Dickens lived.
