The reception was held at Georgio’s of Baiting Hollow. The bride’s parents are Kathryn & John Roche and the groom’s parents are Kristy Gulotta & Joe Sanabria. Joseph and Brittany met while in the police academy and both work in Suffolk County. They enjoyed a 15-day honeymoon in Hawaii.

The Charity of the Month for October is Helen Keller Services

Helen Keller Services (HKS), a nonprofit organization with locations across Long Island and the nation, works with thousands of individuals who are blind, have low vision, are DeafBlind or have combined hearing and vision loss to live, work and thrive in their community of choice.

The Helen Keller National Center (HKNC), which is located in Port Washington, is the only comprehensive national program that provides information, referral, support and training exclusively to youths and adults who have combined vision and hearing loss. The Center also supports the families and professionals who work with the DeafBlind community.

One of the services the organization runs is the HKSB Health and Wellness Program, which provides free physical health activities and mental wellness initiatives to individuals throughout the New York metropolitan area who are blind or DeafBlind. Some of the offerings are individualized and group dance movement therapy, yoga and/or pilates instruction, nutrition education, creative arts therapy, gardening and workshops on various topics related to health and wellness.

“The program offers dance and movement therapy sessions to

promote emotional and psychological release through creative

movement expression,” says Janine Markey, a dance/movement therapist for HKS. “Yoga sessions encourage the use of mindfulness practices. Mental health support groups are facilitated by clinical staff members to provide a safe outlet for the participants thoughts and feelings.”

Don’t forget, this entire month is designated as National Disability Employment Awareness Month, which celebrates the contributions of America’s workers with disabilities past and present and showcases supportive, inclusive employment policies and practices. Village Halloween Family Fun Day!

The Village of Lindenhurst is once again pleased to host its Annual Halloween Family Fun Day. The Village, along with the Lindenhurst Rotary Club, will offer safe, family-oriented fun for the children of our community. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Village Park (located at the intersection of Hartford Street & Irmisch Avenue). The Halloween Family Fun Day will feature face painting, entertainment, games, relay races, prizes, hay rides, horse & pony rides, and hot dogs -- all free of charge.

Breast Cancer Hotline Volunteers Sought 4-Session Training In November

Breast cancer survivors can help others coping with breast cancer by becoming volunteers with the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program. The four-day training program will take place on consecutive Tuesdays in November (November 1, 8, 15 and 22) from 10 am to 1 pm on zoom. Attendance at all four sessions is necessary.

This in-depth training includes presentations by nurse navigators and social workers on basic breast cancer education, active listening skills, and tips on engaging the community.

Those who complete the training will

have opportunities to provide support and guidance on the hotline; attend community outreach events to support underserved communities; deliver educational presentations and speaking engagements; assist with local and national press and media; and help with fundraising efforts.

The Fourth Annual New York Long Island Film Festival October 20-22, 2022

The New York Long Island Film Festival (NYLIFF) will open its doors to for the fourth annual festival on October 20, 2022, at The South Shore Theatre Experience – 115 South Wellwood Ave., Lindenhurst NY 11757 and will continue October 21 and 22 at the Lindenhurst Moose Lodge – 883 South Broadway, Lindenhurst NY 11757. The festival will run on Thursday from Noon to 7 PM at the theatre and from 10 AM to 9 PM on Friday and Saturday at the Moose Lodge. Over 85 films will be shown during the three-day festival and tickets range from $1012.00 per block, $28.00 per day or $75.00 for the entire festival VIP Pass. Filmmaker Gerry Ferretti created NYLIFF in 2019 along with friend and actress Katie Schrader to give equal opportunity

to all filmmakers, actors, actresses, writers and artists who part their hearts and souls into their crafts – especially those who might lack the resources necessary to perfectly polish their work. Storm season is here in New York, is your home ready to withstand the elements this year? There are a lot of precautions homeowners can take to make sure their homes are ready to combat the storms that come our way. The most important aspect of your home that you need to check is your roof. Make sure that all shingles and components on your roof are not compromised. This means checking the shingles to see if any are loose or if any are blown off. If you do see that your roof needs work you must get this fixed as soon as possible.

The strong rains and winds from storms will cause leaks in your roof which will lead to the structure of your home rotting and cause leaks that may make their way into your home. The next aspect of your home you should check is your gutters. Make sure they are cleaned, and water is able to fill up and be diverted away from your house. Make sure that the downspouts to your gutters are pointed away from the foundation of your home and are clear for water to flow through easily. If gutters are not able to keep a constant flow of water away from your home the facia that the gutters are attached to will rot and your gutters may fall off due to the excessive water that is filling them and the weakened fascia that is caused by the excessive water damage. Finally, make sure that all of your windows and doors are able to lock & are air-tight so no water is able to infiltrate through these openings.

Dominican Village’s Fall Frenzy Auction

Plans are well underway for Dominican Village’s annual Fall Frenzy Auction (formerly known as the Chinese Auction Extravaganza).

There will be countless raffle baskets with separate raffles for “gold prizes” including flat-screen TVs, designer handbags/wallets, lottery trees, gift cards, and more. The event will also include a wine grab raffle.

La Famiglia Cadillac Club and Empire Muscle Cars recently held another classic car show at the Lindenhurst Village Square. Both clubs came together for the event to display their vintage models, while also raising donations for the March of Dimes. A total of $3,197.00 was raised from the event.

Babylon Citizens Council On The Arts Receives National Endowment For The Arts Grant

BACCA (Babylon Citizens Council on the Arts) is pleased to announce that they are receiving a grant of $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) to support the planning, design and execution of an organizational marketing and outreach initiative with the goal of increased community engagement, and a focus on increasing equity and accessibility.

“The National Endowment for the Arts is proud to support organizations across the country, including BACCA. The arts help communities to thrive,” said Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD., chair of the National Endowment for the Arts. “Meaningful engagement with the arts can have many benefits, from contributing to collective healing and mutual understanding, to strengthening local economies.”

With this support, BACCA will design and distribute new digital and print graphics as well as informational and publicity materials in multiple languages, and host arts programs and provide resources with ASL interpretation and language translation services.
