Volksmarch Announced As September’s 100th Anniversary Event

The Village of Lindenhurst, in conjunction with the Lindenhurst Historical Society, is excited to announce the September 100th Anniversary event! The Historical Society, who is celebrating its 75th anniversary, will be hosting a Volksmarch on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

Registration begins at 9:00 AM and the walk begins at 10:00 AM.

A Volksmarch is a 3.1 mile family friendly and leisurely walk from one destination to another where participants learn about specific details of landmarks and history of the Village.

Registration begins at 9:00 AM the day of the event. Pre-registration is available beginning August 31, 2023. Please fill out the registration form and email it to lindenhursthistoricalsociety@gmail.com to register. The

form can be found at villageoflindenhurstny.gov

Registration fees are a donation to the Lindenhurst Historical Society. Pre-registration donation is $13.00 for a single participant and $18.00 for a family. Event day registration is $15.00 for a single participant and $20.00 for a family.

The Volksmarch begins and ends at the Firemen’s Pavilion (Heiling Boulevard). The Breslau Engine Co. will be holding their annual Germanfest the day of the Volksmarch. Participation in the Volksmarch gets you free entry into the Germanfest!

9-11 Candlelight Remembrance Service

September 11, 2001 will live in the mind of every American throughout time. America will never forget 9/11/01. Lindenhurst will never forget. September 11th is a time to remember all that was lost to us that day: our sense of security, our peace, our innocence,

our belief that we were safe beyond such random violence. Most of all, we remember those who lost their lives, specifically, the eight Lindenhurst residents that lost or gave their lives that horrific day.

This year, the Village of Lindenhurst will be

holding our 22nd Year Candlelight Remembrance Service beginning at 7:00PM on Monday, September 11th, 2023 at the Village’s 9-11 Memorial Garden, located on the south side of Lindenhurst Village Park, on Byrd Street between Irmisch Avenue

Dockside Family Festival

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation is pleased to announce that the annual Dockside Family Festival will take place on Saturday, September 9th at Captree State Park in Babylon from 11:00AM to 5:00PM, rain or shine.

This festival offers fun for the entire family! Adults can enjoy live music as well as a variety of merchandise and food vendors. Activities for children include interactive pirate shows,

pony rides, magic shows, boat rides (children must be accompanied by an adult) and much more! All activities are free; however, there is an $8.00 vehicle use fee in effect from 8:00AM to 4:00PM.

Last month I wrote about advice for people looking to buy a home. The feedback was nice, which I appreciate, but a few people asked if I had any advice for people looking to sell their home. That prompted this month’s article: 12 tips for home sellers today.

1) Enhance curb appeal: First impressions matter! Clean the yard, trim bushes, mow the lawn, and consider adding some colorful flowers or plants to boost curb appeal.

2) Declutter and depersonalize: Clear out any unnecessary clutter and personal items from your home. This helps potential buyers envision themselves in the space and creates a cleaner, more appealing atmosphere.

3) Deep clean: Give your

home a thorough cleaning before putting it on the market. Pay special attention to kitchens, bathrooms, floors, and windows. A clean and wellmaintained home will make a positive impression.

4) Make necessary repairs: Fix any visible issues like leaky faucets, broken tiles, or cracked walls. Addressing these problems before listing can prevent potential buyers from being deterred or making lower offers.

5) Stage your home: Consider staging your home to highlight its best features and create a welcoming environment. Arrange furniture strategically, use neutral colors, and add tasteful decor to highlight the potential of each room.
